ABSTRACTA CATCHWORD is a lexical item or phrase, whether created within a particular language or adopted from foreign languages through translation or transliteration or a combination of the two. In Chinese discourse, catchwords spread rapidly within a particular group of people at a particular time and in a particular context (cf. Gu Wei, 2004): a definition from work undertaken at the Institute of Applied Linguistics (founded in 2002 at the Beijing Language and Culture University). The topic is the subject of a treatise, ‘The longitudinal study of catchwords in newspapers’ and is one of the items on the agenda of the Tenth Five-Year Plan, for consideration by the Chinese Language and Characters Committee. Zhang Pu (2003), a professor of language information processing at Beijing Language and Culture University has argued that ‘[a] catchword is not only a lexical phenomenon, but also indicates people's values from a cultural psychology point of view, as well as reflecting social reality’.

The article represents an effort to specify the essential characteristics of the relationship between the intentionality of consciousness, language and culture, and on this basis to reveal the features of the process of foreign language teaching.The author considers intentionality as a phenomenon that defines and provides the content of consciousness, allowing one to commit an act of self-determination and gaining subjectivity. In the activity of consciousness, the author distinguishes intentional flows of both relatively objects and subjects, which is a prerequisite for comprehending another I, a different cultural entity, and at the same time a condition for self-knowledge and deeper penetration into one’s own culture.Culture is a complex semiotic text, it is a context in which the language being studied as a secondary modeling system acts as a means where various phenomena can be sequentially described and interpreted by students.The openness of the subject to the world, nurtured in the course of intentional teaching of language and culture, allows its utter uniqueness, and at the same time utmost universality, to manifest itself. Such an attitude actualizes the internal regularity of human actions, the possibility of self-development and the formation of a system of deferred actions, which allows a person to realize, take place, actualizes the intentional field of his capabilities.The author comes to the conclusion that the process of foreign language teaching should be interpretative, significative, semiotic in nature. Taking into account during teaching а foreign language the intentional conditioning of any action, including speech, will ensure the achievement of a coordinated consciousness.

The article examines the language policy of Kazakhstan from the point of view of historical development and in the context of the socio-cultural process of conjugation of the Chinese initiative «One Belt, One Road» and the program of Kazakhstan «Bright Path», the analysis of the modern language situation in Kazakhstan is made and on the basis of this analysis forecasts are made and determined prospects for the language policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as proposals for the development of language and culture in China. The authors substantiate the importance of the study of the language policy of Kazakhstan for the PRC, since China is a multinational country, and the study of the language policy of Kazakhstan will allow considering the methods adopted by another multiethnic country to solve the problems of the national language and the formation of language policy, and learn from the practice of Kazakhstan, which will allow the PRC to develop and implement a more effective policy in relation to national and foreign languages, as well as form proposals for the development of cultural exchanges between China and Kazakhstan. The article provides an overview of the current state of research on the language policy of Kazakhstan by Western European and Chinese scientists. The article analyzes documents on the language policy of Kazakhstan, examines such noticeable phenomena in the implementation of language policy as Kazakhization, Latinization of the Kazakh writing and trilingual policy, characterizes the development of the Chinese language in Kazakhstan. The authors of the article analyze in detail the most important trends in the socio-cultural life of Kazakhstan in terms of the implementation of a trilingual policy, consider the reasons for the popularity of the Chinese language in Kazakhstan and consider the activities of Confucius Institutes as the most important centers in the spread of the Chinese language and Chinese culture in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This article deals with the issues of Chinese translation, including difficulties in translating words related to Chinese culture into the Kazakh language, methods of translating them, as well as the relationship between language and culture. Cultural words are compared with lexical, stylistic, logical, grammatical aspects and their features and similarities in Kazakh and Chinese are explored in detail. The article also focuses on translating colors and related names, which reflect the material and spiritual culture of each country.Since China's open door reforms, its connection with the outside world has been growing steadily. The Chinese language connection with different languages is growing and the translation industry is developing. Society demand for translators also increased. Translation has also become an integral part of teaching foreign languages to meet the development needs of society. That is why the study of the problem of translating words in each branch of Chinese language is one of the most relevant topics today. Including, recognizing the nature of cultural expressions and their systematic study and translation into our native language will make an important contribution to translation theory and practice.

The article is devoted to the issues of cognitive linguistics, which studies language as a communication tool. The article postulates that cognitive linguistics is an approach to the analysis of natural language, which has as its main goal the study of language as a tool for organizing, processing and transmitting information. The author puts forward a point of view that it is fundamentally important for cognitive linguistics to analyze the conceptual base of linguistic categories, as well as certain mechanisms of information processing. The subject of the analysis in the article is the characteristic of the ratio of linguistic and cognitive modules. The purpose of the article is to analyze the correlation of linguistic and cognitive modules. The methodological basis of the study includes theoretical works on cognitive linguistics and philosophical theory of cognition, for which the priority is the study of language as a cognitive mechanism that contributes to encoding and transforming information. The emphasis is placed on the fact that language serves cognition, which is understood as both scientific and everyday comprehention of the world, realized in the processes of its conceptualization and categorization. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of verbal and non-verbal communication using the example of mental representations formed in childhood. The results of the analysis underline the ambiguous interpretation of the problem, revealing the mechanism of perception and generation of speech. A conclusion is made that communication can be divided into intentional and non-intentional. Evidence was found that the information transmission can be carried out without intention, i.e., not all information can be intentional.

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) was born in the ‘90s, explicitly aimed at fostering the European multilingualism at school, by means of the embedding content and foreign/minority languages, whose implementation non-linguistic subject teachers have been the only main characters for a long time. As a matter of fact, by now CLIL does not seem to be as widespread as wished in the European schools, often because it is not seen as an opportunity for teachers, but as a demanding top-down policy, both in training them and in workload for them. So, it is not perceived primarily in its global importance for a new kind of schooling, in which multilingualism is part of the holistic knowledge required to students of the XXI century, not the only real aim of CLIL, as the almost exclusively interest in it of the Foreign Languages (FLs) and Applied Linguistics Departments could demonstrate.

This text presents the basis of a research project that deals with the issue of textualcomplexity (TC), examining aspects of Pediatrics papers against newspaper articles. In theliterature review, it is mobilized works related to the subject of TC in Applied Linguistics,Terminology studies that follow a textual point of view, Computational Linguistics and CorpusLinguistics. Some highlighted elements in the contrast between the examination of texts and theliterature reviewed are the measures to TC ratio and degrees of text specialization, whichwould preview differences between specialized language and everyday language. The paperconcludes with the presentation of prospects for the treatment of the issue of TC among thestudies on scientific discourse.

Abstract Shop signs, in the Jordanian public commercial environment, have invariably been studied from linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic perspectives, but they have been utterly ignored from a translational point of view. This study, the first of its kind, investigates various problems and inadequacies pertinent to the subject under discussion. Shop signs are selected here from a number of heterogeneous cities, and the translation errors therein, committed by communicators, were empirically analyzed and categorized. Language and culture are, of necessity, inextricably intertwined, and this nexus is particularly apparent in the world of local commercial shop signs, and thus it has been tackled for its direct relevance to the translation of these signs. This investigation, therefore, highlights the linguistic (e.g., word-order, wrong lexical choice, and reductionist strategies), and extralinguistic (i.e., sociocultural and promotional) factors that have turned out to lead to translation inappropriateness and unparallelisms, information skewing, and, consequently, serious semantic-conceptual problems in the produced TLTs. This study may, in a way, provide educated insight into the trendiest translation practices in this field, and the way shop signs are most often verbalized, mishandled, and mistranslated.

Social media as an Internet phenomenon, determines their place and level of popularity in the society, as a result of which the social networks are a resource with perspective pedagogical potential. The analysis of social media from the point of view of studying a foreign language and the possibility of their usage as a learning medium has been carried out. The most widespread and popular platforms have been considered and, based on their capabilities in teaching all types of speech activities, the “Instagram”, “Twitter”, and “Facebook” Internet resources have been selected as the subject of the research. The survey results show that the introduction of modern technologies, in particular the Internet, in the learning process creates ample opportunities for the effective organization of educational space and expanding communication capabilities.

Scientifically speaking we, all know that the origins of language and culture remain unknown. Researchers relate to fossil, archeology evidence, and historical accounts in attempting to access what many scholars do think is a topic that lacks of direct evidence. However, when it comes to the languages and cultures we know today, it could be viable to investigate correlational language and cultural patterns in Applied Linguistics Studies. Thus, the present research study looks at the Spanish syntaxes [tú and usted] to highlight correlated linguistic and cultural traits. It presents an analyse of the Applied Linguistic and Culture patterns related to the subject investigated, and methodological insights based on the method developed by Edward T. Hall, a prospect that describes and analyses cultures. The research study was conducted by following suitable research protocols. This criterium involved the analysis of various research publications and Internet accredited website sources. This research study is beneficial for scholars involved and interested in conducting researchers related to Spanish Linguistic and Cultural Connectiveness Patterns.

The article is devoted to the subject-language integrated approach (CLIL), which is currently characterized in the world scientific and methodological literature as one of the innovative approaches to the organization of bilingual education and involves the simultaneous implementation of two learning goals in two subject areas – language and subject; various interpretations of its essence are presented, its varieties, possibilities and features of implementation in bilingual education are highlighted through the application of its basic principles and strategies. The role of the subject-language integrated teaching of students of non-linguistic specialties of higher educational institutions is discussed. The article describes the content and language integrated learning from the point of view of modern methods of foreign languages teaching. The main features of the teachers’ of profile subjects work as well as teachers of foreign languages in the system of subject-language integrated teaching are considered. Models and peculiarities of using CLIL methodology in a higher educational institution are given.
