Approach for Detecting Soft Faults in GPS/INS Integrated Navigation based on LS-SVM and AIME

In life-critical applications, the real-time detection of faults is very important in Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS) integrated navigation systems. A new fault detection method for soft fault detection is developed in this paper with the purpose of improving real-time performance. In general, the innovation information obtained from a Kalman filter is used for test statistic calculations in Autonomous Integrity Monitored Extrapolation (AIME). However, the innovation of the Kalman filter is degraded by error tracking and closed-loop correction effects, leading to time delays in soft fault detection. Therefore, the key issue of improving real-time performance is providing accurate innovation to AIME. In this paper, the proposed algorithm incorporates Least Squares-Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM) regression theory into AIME. Because the LS-SVM has a good regression and prediction performance, the proposed method provides replaced innovation obtained from the LS-SVM driven by real-time observation data. Based on the replaced innovation, the test statistics can follow fault amplitudes more accurately; finally, the real-time performance of soft fault detection can be improved. Theoretical analysis and physical simulations demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively improve the detection instantaneity.

Electroencephalogram data are easily affected by artifacts, and a drift may occur during the signal acquisition process. At present, most research focuses on the automatic detection and elimination of artifacts in electrooculograms, electromyograms and electrocardiograms. However, electroencephalogram drift data, which affect the real-time performance, are mainly manually calibrated and abandoned. An emotion classification method based on 1/f fluctuation theory is proposed to classify electroencephalogram data without removing artifacts and drift data. The results show that the proposed method can still achieve a great classification accuracy of 75% in cases in which artifacts and drift data exist when using the support vector machine classifier. In addition, the real-time performance of the proposed method is guaranteed.

For the integrated navigation system, the correctness and the rapidity of fault detection for each sensor subsystem affects the accuracy of navigation. In this paper, a novel fault detection method for navigation systems is proposed based on Gaussian Process Regression (GPR). A GPR model is first used to predict the innovation of a Kalman filter. To avoid local optimisation, particle swarm optimisation is adopted to find the optimal hyper-parameters for the GPR model. The Fault Detection Function (FDF), which has an obvious jump in value when a fault occurs, is composed of the predicted innovation, the actual innovation of the Kalman filter and their variance. The fault can be detected by comparing the FDF value with a predefined threshold. In order to verify its validity, the proposed method is used in a SINS/GPS/Odometer integrated navigation system. The comparison experiments confirm that the proposed method can detect a gradual fault more quickly compared with the residual chi-squared test. Thus the navigation system with the proposed method gives more accurate outputs and its reliability is greatly improved.

The adaptive cruise control (ACC) system has received significant attention due to traffic safety improvement, traffic throughput increment, and energy conservation. Model Predictive Control (MPC) has been successfully applied in the control of multi-objective vehicular ACC. However, as a state-feedback policy, MPC requires full state measurement. Meanwhile, the real-time performance of MPC is intractable. This paper proposes to estimate the state value and disturbance value with an extended state Kalman filter to deal with measurement uncertainty. The Kalman filter is based on an augmented state-space model which takes the disturbance term as a new state. To improve real-time performance, this paper suggests employing an explicit MPC (EMPC) based on binary search tree to move the online computational burden of MPC to offline computation by multi-parametric quadratic programming (MPQP). An improved algorithm to solve the MPQP problem offline is proposed, which is initialized discarding the requirement of parameters range, while previous methods need. In the simulated measurement process, the extended state Kalman filter can effectively reduce noise and accurately estimate the value of state and disturbance in the car-following model. Simulations in different scenarios are performed to test the effectiveness of the proposed ACC controller. Results show that the proposed EMPC for the ACC system can improve the real-time performance of the MPC with little loss of performance. On average, the EMPC via binary search is 95.8 times faster than the MPC with the same parameters as EMPC for the studied ACC system. And it has better overall performance compared with the ACC with collision avoidance (CA-ACC) method.

Reconstructing hand-object interactions is a challenging task due to strong occlusions and complex motions. This article proposes a real-time system that uses a single depth stream to simultaneously reconstruct hand poses, object shape, and rigid/non-rigid motions. To achieve this, we first train a joint learning network to segment the hand and object in a depth image, and to predict the 3D keypoints of the hand. With most layers shared by the two tasks, computation cost is saved for the real-time performance. A hybrid dataset is constructed here to train the network with real data (to learn real-world distributions) and synthetic data (to cover variations of objects, motions, and viewpoints). Next, the depth of the two targets and the keypoints are used in a uniform optimization to reconstruct the interacting motions. Benefitting from a novel tangential contact constraint, the system not only solves the remaining ambiguities but also keeps the real-time performance. Experiments show that our system handles different hand and object shapes, various interactive motions, and moving cameras.

Abstract Visual–Inertial Navigation Systems (VINS) plays an important role in many navigation applications. In order to improve the performance of VINS, a new visual/inertial integrated navigation method, named Sliding-Window Factor Graph optimised algorithm with Dynamic prior information (DSWFG), is proposed. To bound computational complexity, the algorithm limits the scale of data operations through sliding windows, and constructs the states to be optimised in the window with factor graph; at the same time, the prior information for sliding windows is set dynamically to maintain interframe constraints and ensure the accuracy of the state estimation after optimisation. First, the dynamic model of vehicle and the observation equation of VINS are introduced. Next, as a contrast, an Invariant Extended Kalman Filter (InEKF) is constructed. Then, the DSWFG algorithm is described in detail. Finally, based on the test data, the comparison experiments of Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), InEKF and DSWFG algorithms in different motion scenes are presented. The results show that the new method can achieve superior accuracy and stability in almost all motion scenes.

With the rapid development of satellite technology and the need to satisfy the increasing demand for location-based services, in challenging environments such as indoors, forests, and canyons, there is an urgent need to improve the position accuracy in these environments. However, traditional algorithms obtain the position solution through time redundancy in exchange for spatial redundancy, and they require continuous observations that cannot satisfy the real-time location services. In addition, they must also consider the clock bias between the satellite and receiver. Therefore, in this paper, we provide a single-satellite integrated navigation algorithm based on the elimination of clock bias for broadband low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication links. First, we derive the principle of LEO satellite communication link clock bias elimination; then, we give the principle and process of the algorithm. Next, we model and analyze the error of the system. Subsequently, based on the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), we model the state vector and observation vector of our algorithm and give the state and observation equations. Finally, for different scenarios, we conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis through simulations, and the results show that, whether in an altimeter scenario or non-altimeter scenario, the performance indicators of our algorithm are significantly better than the inertial navigation system (INS), which can effectively overcome the divergence problem of INS; compared with the medium earth orbit (MEO) constellation, the navigation trajectory under the LEO constellation is closer to the real trajectory of the aircraft; and compared with the traditional algorithm, the accuracy of each item is improved by more than 95%. These results show that our algorithm not only significantly improves the position error, but also effectively suppresses the divergence of INS. The algorithm is more robust and can satisfy the requirements of cm-level real-time location services in challenging environments.

Fault detection and identification are vital for guaranteeing the precision and reliability of tightly coupled inertial navigation system (INS)/global navigation satellite system (GNSS)-integrated navigation systems. A variance shift outlier model (VSOM) was employed to detect faults in the raw pseudo-range data in this paper. The measurements were partially excluded or included in the estimation process depending on the size of the associated shift in the variance. As an objective measure, likelihood ratio and score test statistics were used to determine whether the measurements inflated variance and were deemed to be faulty. The VSOM is appealing because the down-weighting of faulty measurements with the proper weighting factors in the analysis automatically becomes part of the estimation procedure instead of deletion. A parametric bootstrap procedure for significance assessment and multiple testing to identify faults in the VSOM is proposed. The results show that VSOM was validated through field tests, and it works well when single or multiple faults exist in GNSS measurements.
