ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the contributions of the National Program of Reorientation of Professional Training in Health (Pró-Saúde) for the change in the model of care and training of health professionals. Methods: a case study with representatives of the teaching, care, management and social control, participants of the management units of the Pró-Saúde (Charitable institution for social and hospital assistance), in a municipality of the south of Brazil. Data collection took place through interviews and observations between October 2012 and February 2013. Results: the Program acts as a device for the transition of health care and training models, by promoting the problematization of daily work and the approximation between teaching and service. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the subjects’ commitment and the different perspectives on the community. Conclusion: Pró-Saúde leaves visible marks in the process of qualifying students and professionals, as well as promoting collaborative action in the fields of management, care, teaching and social control in the SUS (Brazilian Unified Health System).

One hundred and fifty persons answered a questionnaire measuring self-esteem, propensity for feedback, self-efficacy, and certain demographic information. Subsequently, the students completed the Basic Flight Instruction Tutoring System (BFITS), a series of fully-automated criterion-referenced lessons designed to teach a person how to fly an airplane. BFITS provided feedback whenever student performance on monitored variables approached the limits of acceptable performance. After BFITS the students entered the traditional flight training program. Flight time prior to the first solo flight, landings before first solo, and total time to the private pilot certificate were obtained. Individual needs for feedback were significant factors of performance in the BFITS training and its transfer to the aircraft. Because of the interaction between individual propensity for feedback and training performance an individually adaptive feedback methodology is proposed.

Information and communication technology (ICT) elicited rapidly dissemination over the world. For its impact inSudan, the national government has been energized the institutions to implement ICT in every sector. This studyexamined the Sudanese teachers’ skills and ICT integration in technical and vocational education and training TVETin Khartoum state. The study directed out of two hundred respondents were sampled randomly, questionnaires weredistributed, 168 (84%) were properly filled and returned, 130 were males and 38 females from three various bodiesof TVET include (technical secondary schools, artisan institutions, and vocational training centres). A One-WayANOVA and Independent sample t-test on SPSS version 20 for data analysis were adopted. The results revealed thatsignificantly the respondents are same in terms of demographic information and ICTs usage skills. However, therewas a significant difference among the respondents’ ICT skill due to their ages and qualifications. Consequently, more training needs to be conducted for TVET teachers in basic skills of computer use. Following the internationalstandards, the right decisions we are strongly recommending train/teach pre-service and in-service teachers on ICTsskills based on 21st-century requirement.

The authors conducted the first-ever study into counselor conceptualization of client problems using neuroscience theories. The authors selected an embedded mixed-methods design. Participants (N = 334) provided quantitative demographic information and responded to an open-ended qualitative question regarding a hypothetical situation of a client asking the counselor to explain depression from a neuroscience perspective. The authors coded, tallied, and transformed qualitative responses to quantitative data via frequency counts. Kappa coefficients for the coding team exceeded the threshold for acceptable reliability. Approximately half of the counselors applied neuroscience theories to explain client experiences of depression (57.7%, n = 194), and some counselors integrated multiple neuroscience theories in their response (23.2%, n = 45). The monoamine and neuroplasticity theories were the two most common neuroscience theories for depression. Implications for research and training are discussed.

An educational needs assessment instrument for individuals with diabetes has been developed at the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center. Responses to the 110-item questionnaire provide subscores on con structs labeled "Control Problems, " "Psychosocial Impact," "Barriers to Compliance, " "Benefits of Regimen, " "Regimen Complexity," and "Risk of Complications." Com bined with demographic and clinical information, these scores form a com prehensive summary of the patient's attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and knowledge in relation to diabetes. This summary is in the form of an individ ualized graphic profile that highlights possible prob lem areas to be consid ered when developing patient education and management plans.

The current study investigated the extent to which agricultural researchers and extension workers were aware of Web 2.0 technologies and put them into practice in their daily work. The study involved 107 respondents in the first phase and 148 in the second phase. Respondents were from agricultural research and training institutions as well as agricultural extension departments from selected districts across the country. Structured questionnaires were administered to selected respondents. Findings show that 43.9% of the respondents were aware of Web 2.0 while 56.1% knew nothing about this concept. Facebook and Wikipedia were found to be the most used Web 2.0 tools by many respondents while Delicious, Pbworks, Picasa and Digg were identified as among the less commonly used tools by majority of the respondents. The study recommends the need for providing appropriate Web 2.0 training packages to agricultural extension workers, researchers, trainers and other stakeholders in order to enhance knowledge sharing among them for improved agricultural productivity in the country.

Attitudes towards open peer review, open data and use of preprints influence scientists’ engagement with those practices. Yet there is a lack of validated questionnaires that measure these attitudes. The goal of our study was to construct and validate such a questionnaire and use it to assess attitudes of Croatian scientists. We first developed a 21-item questionnaire called Attitudes towards Open data sharing, preprinting, and peer-review (ATOPP), which had a reliable four-factor structure, and measured attitudes towards open data, preprint servers, open peer-review and open peer-review in small scientific communities. We then used the ATOPP to explore attitudes of Croatian scientists (n = 541) towards these topics, and to assess the association of their attitudes with their open science practices and demographic information. Overall, Croatian scientists’ attitudes towards these topics were generally neutral, with a median (Md) score of 3.3 out of max 5 on the scale score. We also found no gender (P = 0.995) or field differences (P = 0.523) in their attitudes. However, attitudes of scientist who previously engaged in open peer-review or preprinting were higher than of scientists that did not (Md 3.5 vs. 3.3, P<0.001, and Md 3.6 vs 3.3, P<0.001, respectively). Further research is needed to determine optimal ways of increasing scientists’ attitudes and their open science practices.

The study was conducted in two cluster secondary schools in Kelantan state to see the relationship between the overall quality management (TQM) element and teacher satisfaction. This quantitative study involved 130 teachers from the school. A set of questionnaire forms comprising respondents’ demographic information, TQM constructs consisting of top management commitments, relationships with suppliers, continuous improvement, product innovation, benchmarking, teacher engagement, recognition and rewards, education and training, customer focus and satisfaction constructs Teacher work has been distributed. The data were analyzed using SPSS Version 18 software for descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The findings of Pearson’s Correlation analysis showed that there was a negative correlation between the TQM element and the job satisfaction of the teachers in the cluster secondary school. This suggests that the rewards received by teachers were not encouraging in improving job satisfaction among teachers in the cluster secondary school in Kelantan. Suggestions for a new mechanism can be created in rewarding and recognizing teachers to improve their job satisfaction at the school and this will instill a world-class educational excellence.

This study describes responsibilities and training needs of paraeducators in physical education. Paraeducators (n =138) employed in 34 midwestern schools received a 27-item questionnaire. Of the 138 paraeducators contacted, 76 responded, resulting in a 55.1% response rate. Only 16% of the total respondents (n = 76) reported receiving specific training in physical education; however, 68 (90%) indicated a willingness to be trained. Less than half (n = 29, 38%) indicated participating in physical education by escorting students, providing cues, and working individually with students. Fewer than eight (28%) of the physical education paraeducators assisted with assessments, shared IEP suggestions, or helped implement behavior modification programs. The most desired training areas included activity modifications, attributes of students with disabilities, and knowledge of motor development.

Design-based research (DBR) is a programme where researchers co-operate with practitioners to work out new solutions. In DBR researchers interfere in daily life and participate in practitioners’ working processes. One open question is: What kind of knowledge can be generated in these projects? My starting point here is a DBR project in vocational education and training in Germany which is used for an investigation of the epistemological background of this kind of research enterprise. The characteristics of DBR are reflected on the basis of phenomenological and hermeneutical approaches. The basic assumptions of these concepts are introduced and applied to the DBR approach to show how DBR generally works and how, specially, features of DBR like participation in daily life, co-operation with practitioners, gathering knowledge in the field a. s. o. can be handled. The line of argumentation in this contribution is a radical switch between practical questions in daily work in DBR on one hand and theoretical re-assurance on the other hand. For researchers, DBR is an enterprise in a new world. The analytical paradigm does not prepare the voyagers for this journey. Therefore the non-analytic continental tradition of philosophy has to be re-discovered.
