We demonstrate a new strategy to control the carrier transport in AgSbSe2by introducing Sb deficiencies. Enhanced electrical conductivity and ultra-low thermal conductivity resulted a peak ZT value ∼1 at 610 K in Sb deficient AgSbSe2.

Molybdenum sulfide (MoS2) has emerged as a promising catalyst for hydrogen evolution applications. The synthesis method mainly employed is a conventional hydrothermal method. This method requires a longer time compared to other methods such as microwave synthesis methods. There is a lack of comparison of the two synthesis methods in terms of crystal morphology and its electrochemical activities. In this work, MoS2 nanosheets are synthesized using both hydrothermal (HT-MoS2) and advanced microwave methods (MW-MoS2), their crystal morphology, and catalytical efficiency towards hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) were compared. MoS2 nanosheet is obtained using microwave-assisted synthesis in a very short time (30 min) compared to the 24 h hydrothermal synthesis method. Both methods produce thin and aggregated nanosheets. However, the nanosheets synthesized by the microwave method have a less crumpled structure and smoother edges compared to the hydrothermal method. The as-prepared nanosheets are tested and used as a catalyst for hydrogen evolution results in nearly similar electrocatalytic performance. Experimental results showed that: HT-MoS2 displays a current density of 10 mA/cm2 at overpotential (−280 mV) compared to MW-MoS2 which requires −320 mV to produce a similar current density, suggesting that the HT-MoS2 more active towards hydrogen evolutions reaction.

AbstractNanocomposite thermoelectrics based on Bi_0.45Sb_1.55Te_2.985 solid solution of p -type conductivity are fabricated by the hot pressing of nanopowders of this solid solution with the addition of SiO_2 microparticles. Investigations of the thermoelectric properties show that the thermoelectric power of the nanocomposites increases in a wide temperature range of 80–420 K, while the thermal conductivity considerably decreases at 80–320 K, which, despite a decrease in the electrical conductivity, leads to an increase in the thermoelectric efficiency in the nanostructured material without the SiO_2 addition by almost 50% (at 300 K). When adding SiO_2, the efficiency decreases. The initial thermoelectric fabricated without nanostructuring, in which the maximal thermoelectric figure of merit ZT = 1 at 390 K, is most efficient at temperatures above 350 K.

In this work, we use first principles DFT calculations, anharmonic phonon scatter theory and Boltzmann transport method, to predict a comprehensive study on the thermoelectric properties as electronic and phonon transport of layered LaSe2 crystal. The flat-and-dispersive type band structure of LaSe2 crystal offers a high power factor. In the other hand, low lattice thermal conductivity is revealed in LaSe2 semiconductor, combined with its high power factor, the LaSe2 crystal is considered a promising thermoelectric material. It is demonstrated that p-type LaSe2 could be optimized to exhibit outstanding thermoelectric performance with a maximum ZT value of 1.41 at 1100K. Explored by density functional theory calculations, the high ZT value is due to its high Seebeck coefficient S, high electrical conductivity, and low lattice thermal conductivity .

AbstractAgInTe2 compound has not received enough recognition in thermoelectrics, possibly due to the fact that the presence of Te vacancy (VTe) and antisite defect of In at Ag site (InAg) degrades its electrical conductivity. In this work, we prepared the Ag1-xInTe2 compounds with substoichiometric amounts of Ag and observed an ultralow lattice thermal conductivity (κL = 0.1 Wm−1K−1) for the sample at x = 0.15 and 814 K. This leads to more than 2-fold enhancement in the ZT value (ZT = 0.62) compared to the pristine AgInTe2. In addition, we have traced the origin of the untralow κL using the Callaway model. The results attained in this work suggest that the engineering of the silver vacancy (VAg) concentration is still an effective way to manipulate the thermoelectric performance of AgInTe2, realized by the increased point defects and modified crystal structure distortion as the VAg concentration increases.

In the present study, the glass microsphere dispersed Bi-Sb thermoelectric materials have been fabricated through mechanical alloying followed by pressureless sintering. The phase composition and the microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. Electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity were measured in the temperature range of 77~300 K. The ZT values were calculated according to the measurement results. The results showed that the electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity decreased by adding glass microsphere into Bi-Sb thermoelectric materials. However, the optimum ZT value of 0.24 was obtained at 260 K, which was increased 10% than that of the Bi-Sb matrix. So it is confirmed that the thermoelectric performance of Bi-Sb-based materials can be improved by adding moderate glass microspheres.

In this work the results of an experimental study of Fe2Ti1-xVxSn alloys (x = 0; 0.06; 0.15; 0.2) are presented. According to the temperature dependencies of the electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity, it is established, that the studied compositions exhibit transport properties typical for semiconductors. The substitution of V at the Ti site leads to a change of the p-type electrical conductivity behavior to n-type; the pristine sample of Fe2TiSn has the best thermoelectric properties.
