The effect of the addition of Sn on the superconducting properties of the Bi 1.7 Pb 0.3 Sr 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O y system as functions of Sn concentration and heat treatment has been studied by dc electrical resistance, ac magnetic susceptibility, and X-ray diffraction. Tin addition suppresses the volume fraction of the high T c phase. Samples with Sn > 0.1 show metallic behavior up to LNT. The formation of the Ca 2 PbO 4 phase is promoted by Sn. This depletes the amount of Pb and Ca necessary for the formation of the 2223 phase, thus reducing the volume fraction of the 2223 phase. It is possible that at least a small fraction of tin substitutes some of the cationic sites of the starting composition. The results of the different measurements are presented.

This paper presents the results obtained from the synthesis and morphological characterization of different magnetite samples:  La0.67-x Prx Ca0.33 MnO3.LaMn1-x Cox O3 and LaMn1-x Nix O3 at 0.13 ≤ 𝑥𝑥 ≤ 0.67 produced by a solid-state reaction mechanism and 𝐿𝐿𝐿𝐿𝑀𝑀𝑀𝑀1−𝑥𝑥(𝐶𝐶𝐶𝐶/𝑁𝑁𝑁𝑁)𝑥𝑥𝑂𝑂3 at 0.0 ≤ 𝑥𝑥 ≤ 0.5 produced by the sol-gel method. These samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction spectroscopy and by measuring electric resistivity and magnetic susceptibility which were carried out as a function of temperature. Notably, the effects of strain and compressive strength on the lattices of magnetite samples were highly dependent on the concentration of 𝑃𝑃𝑟𝑟, 𝐶𝐶𝐶𝐶, and 𝑁𝑁𝑁𝑁. Moreover, the transition temperatures of metal-insulator and ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phases also largely depend on these strength effects, e.g., at higher concentrations of 𝑃𝑃𝑟𝑟, effects of increased strain strength were observed, relocating the shifts of ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transitions to lower temperatures. On the other hand, effects of increased compressive strength were observed at higher concentrations of 𝑁𝑁𝑁𝑁 and 𝐶𝐶𝐶𝐶, relocating the shifts of ferromagnetic-paramagnetic and metal-insulator transitions to higher temperatures.

AbstractSingle-phase samples of T12Ba2CaCu2O8 and T12Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 have been prepared using a reliable and simple synthetic method. Samples were characterized by x-ray powder diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and four probe resistivity methods. The TcR=0 values for T12Ba2CaCu2O8 ranged from 100 to 105K, whereas those for T12Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 ranged from 96 to 107K. The relationship between the superconducting properties and the various preparation conditions are discussed.

We report here normal and superconducting properties of ABa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ (with A=Y, Gd, Dy, and Er) and of Fe doped YBa2Cu3O7−δ . Results from X-ray powder diffraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, ESR, and specific heat measurements are presented, leading to a characterization of the magnetic properties of these materials. The effect of structural modifications of the lattice on the superconducting properties and the relative insensitivity of Tc to the presence of magnetic moments is discussed.

A novel transition metal polyoxotungstate, [Cu(H2O)6][{Cu(H2O)2}2{Cu(H2O)4H4W12O42}] · 12H2O (1), has been synthesized in aqueous solution and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR and UV/vis spectroscopy, and TG analysis. The paradodecatungstate anions [H2W12O42]10− are linked by CuO6 octahedra, forming a three-dimensional (3D) structure. The magnetic susceptibility of compound 1 in the temperature range 2 - 300 K shows the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions within the uniform Cu2・ ・ ・Cu3 chains

Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2-xEuxCu3Oδ cuprates superconductor doped with Eu nanoparticles (x = 0.0000, 0.0025, 0.0200 and 0.0500) were synthesized through conventional solid state reaction method. Crystalline sucrose was added during pelletization and burn at 400°C for two hours to create low density sample. The effect of doping Eu2O3 nanoparticles on the structural and superconducting properties by means of critical temperature (Tc), critical current density (Jc), X-ray diffraction (XRD) together with Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Alternating Current Susceptibility (ACS) were studied. Based on XRD analyses, the crystallographic structure has shown slightly changed from tetragonal to orthorhombic. The amount of 2223 phase gradually decreased with the increment of Eu concentration which indicates that Eu nanoparticles substitution favours the growth of 2212 phases. The resistivity measurements show that the highest Tcvalue for doped samples found at 90 K for x = 0.0025. The FESEM images showed that the plate-like grains become smaller and distributed randomly without specific alignment due to the increment of Eu concentration.

High-resolution synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction studies on samples of La2−xMxCuO4 (M = Sr,Ba) prepared by standard ceramic techniques show that macroscopic compositional inhomogeneities may exist that are unlikely to be revealed by conventional x-ray diffraction methods. Rietveld refinement of neutron data collected at 200, 50, and 11 K from one such sample, nominally La1.8Sr0.2CuO4, gave satisfactory fits to a tetragonal structure of K2NiF4 type at all three temperatures. However, careful individual peak fits revealed that part of the sample transforms to orthorhombic between 200 and 50 K. It is suggested that this multiphase character has an important influence on the superconducting properties.

AbstractPreliminary results from an investigation into the synthesis and characterization of silicon and germanium type II clathrates are reported. A series of NaxSi136 (0 < x < 24) clathrates was synthesized and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and Rietveld analysis. The NaxSi136 lattice parameters are observed to first decrease, then increase with increasing Na content, indicating a non-monotonic structural response to Na filling. New type II Ge clathrate compositions Cs8Na16MyGe136-y (M = Cu, In) utilizing framework substitution are reported. Electrical transport measurements on a Cu substituted specimen indicate framework substitution modifies the transport properties of these materials. The potential type II clathrate phases possess for thermoelectric applications is discussed.
