The Clinical Fellowship Experience is described by the American Speech-Hearing-Language Association (ASHA) as the transition period from constant supervision to independent practitioner. It is typically the first paid professional experience for the new graduate, and may be in a setting with which the new clinician has little or even no significant practical experience. The mentor of a clinical fellow (CF) plays an important role in supporting the growth and development of this new professional in areas that extend beyond application of clinical skills and knowledge. This article discusses how the mentor may provide this support within a framework that facilitates the path to clinical independence.

Objective: The aim of the study is to assess knowledge, attitude and practices of dental implants among dental interns in Saudi Arabia Materials and Methods: A self-designed, close-ended questionnaire was distributed among 205 interns chosen by stratified random sampling technique. The questionnaire consisted of 28 items pertaining to demographic characteristics, knowledge and practices of dental implants. Responses were coded and entered into spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel 16.0.) and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS, IBM Version 22.0) and contingency tables and chi-square test (χ2). Results: The majority of the participants were males (64.4%), between 24-26 years of age (64%) and had a GPA between 4-5 (63.4%). The majority of the participants gained knowledge of dental implants through theoretical lectures (98.5%), and most of them (80%) knew, what material, an implant was made up of. Almost all participants (91.7%) knew that dental implants had surface modifications. Most (64.4%) believed that case selection is the most important criteria for the success of dental implant therapy, and this differed significantly among participants with respect to GPA (p=0.03). Many participants (60%) believed that the most important advantage of dental implants over fixed prosthesis is that reduction of adjacent tooth is not needed, and this differed significantly between males and females (p=0.026). There was a significant difference (p<0.001) between males and females when it came to confidence in independently restoring teeth using dental implants. 63% of the participants were confident to use dental implants in their future practice. Conclusion: Knowledge of dental implants among dental interns is satisfactory, but this study reveals that participants lack practical experience and would like to acquire more clinical skills. Limitations: The response rate of participants from each university was low, which made comparisons between different universities difficult because sample size from some universities was very small, which could not produce statistically accurate results.

Whereas team project-based learning of engineering design has attracted wide acceptance, it is still rare to see a curriculum that addresses high level societal needs involving diverse students with a wide range of practical experience. Such a curriculum should develop a shared understanding of the use of scenarios for amorphous products and a process to objectively evaluate the project progress while the design concepts mature. This paper describes two key tools that respond to these challenges: 1) scenario prototyping and 2) cross-team project scorecarding. These tools evolved through a collaborative curriculum development of Keio University, MIT, and Stanford in the development of the Active Learning Project Sequence (ALPS), a capstone experience for Keio’s new Graduate School of System Design and Management (SDM). ALPS selected a theme from the “Voice of Society,” according to which the project teams generated solution scenarios, identified requirements, and described the proposed system using appropriate prototypes of not only hardware but other amorphous means as well. The twelve ALPS teams in 2008 addressed the theme “Enhancing the Lives of Seniors in Japan,” which led to more specific scenarios. The paper gives an overview of the ALPS workshop sequence, and describes in detail two key learning modules that were essential in integrating the multi-disciplinary teams: a) scenario prototyping and b) cross-team project scorecarding. These methods are going through further trials in Stanford’s own Design for Manufacturability curriculum involving 10 project teams in the US and Japan.

The growth and development of cybersecurity jobs and careers have created a need for new skilled faculty that can effectively teach the appropriate content to students at all levels. Often instructors are hired based on their academic credentials and professional experience without the use of assessment and faculty development methods to discover if these instructors can teach effectively or even improve the way they teach. Effective instructors have the ability constructively adjust teaching approaches when students are excelling or struggling based on skillful observation and constant assessment. If a student learns something with great ease, perhaps that approach would be of benefit to others. Part of what helps novices develop expertise here is their explicit attempt to understand how and why something works for students. The implementation and use of microteaching can provide a quality improvement approach to help cybersecurity instructors on all levels improve their ability to teach effectively.

Introduction: Patient education is a fundamental component of effective physiotherapypractice. Current literature suggests that physiotherapists may not be adequately prepared for patient education practice; however, perception of graduate preparedness for professional practice has not been explored. This study aimed to investigate newgraduate physiotherapists’ self-efficacy for practising patient education and explore their perceived preparedness for transitioning into this professional role.Methods: This study utilised a sequential mixed-methods design. New-graduate physiotherapists completed the Patient Education Self Efficacy Scale at the conclusion of their pre-professional training (n = 149). Following entry to the workforce, a randomised sample of 15 of these individuals participated in semi-structured interviews exploring perceptions and experiences of practising patient education. Interview data were subject to framework analysis.Results: Highest scoring self-efficacy items were: understanding the role of patient education and questioning to seek the patient’s perceptions and concerns about their condition. The lowest scoring item was: recognising and effectively managing barriers to effective education. Five themes emerged: (1) patient education is a powerful tool, (2) individualised education is highly valued, (3) decreased confidence when facing complexity, (4) overcoming patient-related barriers is challenging and (5) practical experience is critical for skill development.Conclusion: New-graduate physiotherapists demonstrated high self-efficacy and perceived preparedness in most aspects of patient education. Interview findings corroborated survey results indicating that new graduates perceive difficulty in managing barriers to patient education and are challenged when facing complex situations. Direct experience was perceived as the most beneficial for enhancing self-efficacy and preparedness for patient education.

Health care workers are at a higher risk of psychological distress than ordinary people. Stress affects physical and mental health, and can even produce an intention to leave. The current training for new graduate nurses (NGNs) during this transitional period mostly focuses on the cultivation of professional ability, with less attention to mental health or emotional feelings, and thus there are insufficient structured support strategies. As such, this study explores the effects of intervention through an appropriate education program on the learning, mental health and work intentions of new recruits during the transition period. A pre-test and post-test for a single group was designed for new nursing staff in a large teaching hospital in northern Taiwan. The test period was from May 2017 to December 2018, and a total of 293 cases were accepted. A three-month adaptive education program was provided and evaluated in terms of: care for learning, care for health, improving professional ability, and individualized guidance on satisfaction, mental health disturbance and work intention. The new graduate nurses who received gentle care and counseling showed a downward trend in their BSRS-5 scores and statistical differences over time (p < 0.001). The higher the BSRS-5 score, the easier it is for new graduate nurses in acute and intensive care units. There is a tendency for turnover leave (p = 0.03). After the intervention of the overall plan, the turnover rate of new graduate nurses within three months was 12.6%, and the one-year retention rate was 87.9%. The adaptive education program uses multiple support strategies to improve learning and professional abilities, to reduce psychological emotions, and thereby to increase retention. Today will face new medical challenges; the education programs will become more important across clinical care settings, and it will be important to rigorously validate their performance in helping NGNs.

With the publication of the work “Potential GNP: its measurement and significance” (Okun, 1962), the concept of Okun’s law became an important part of global macroeconomic issues. The empirically determined connection between the national product and unemployment, which is manifested through Okun’s law, belongs to a fundamental part of economic empiricism. Gross domestic product and unemployment are among the main macroeconomic variables that reflect the movement of a country’s economy. The countries we observe in this paper went through a transition period in the 1990s, namely a period of great economic, institutional and economic changes. Precisely because of these changes, we are interested in comparing the Slovak and Croatian economies and testing Okun’s law. The aim of this paper is to show whether Okun’s law is valid for Croatia and Slovakia, or whether there is a correlation between the observed variables for these countries. The final purpose of the paper is to show whether there are similarities between the two observed economies when it comes to Okun’s law. We will show this similarity based on the analysis of data for the period from 2000 to 2018 using vector autoregression. The results of the research have been presented at the end of the paper and they are related to the implications of economic policy in the sphere of the labour market that directly affect economic growth and development.

Stress and burnout levels are high among young veterinarians with the transition to practice being particularly challenging. This qualitative study aimed to capture and document the new graduate veterinary experience within the United States and which professional skills are most important for success during the transition to practice. The researchers sought to better understand this challenging transition period and provide insight for veterinary educators who are tasked with preparing new veterinary graduates for day 1 practice readiness. To gain a deeper understanding of the new graduate experience, a focus group was conducted with six veterinarians who recently graduated from four different U.S. veterinary colleges. Several themes arose regarding their experiences in the transition to practice including setbacks and adaptations, self-sufficiency and self-doubt, changing clientele and ethical dilemmas, leadership and conflict, and good vs. bad mentorship. Self-care, conflict management, and client communication were perceived as the most important professional skills for success in the transition to practice. New graduate veterinarians reported that they were least prepared for working with clients with financial constraints and managing conflict. Drawing from this qualitative data, the researchers propose several topics that could be incorporated into professional skills curriculum to further enhance day 1 preparedness of new veterinary graduates to promote well-being in the transition to practice.

Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood and there are some physical changes that are fast matching with adults, but emotions do not necessarily follow physical development. Adolescence is a critical age. Biologically the reproductive organs of adolescents have reached maturity (have experienced wet dreams for men and menstruation for women). This means they are able to be sexually active. This period is a potential period but it is forbidden to actualize the sexual potential along with the early maturity of the reproductive organs (under fifteen years) and the increase in the average age of first marriage (over 20 years). They are required to control their sex drive during this period. Control like this is indeed very necessary. From the religious point of view, this control is interpreted as a form of piety in God. While from a reproductive health perspective, avoiding premarital sex is the best way to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancy. Indonesia is in the fifth ranks among the countries with the highest levels of tobacco consumption in the world. WHO says 1 in 10 deaths in adults is caused by smoking. The smoking habit in students is caused due to misunderstanding of information, the influence of advertising and the influence of friends. Smoking behavior is related to knowledge, one's attitude towards cigarettes and education. The hope is that given information and health education about adolescent growth and development and the dangers of smoking to adolescents can increase knowledge before and after socialization. Pretest and posttest were carried out to find out the teenager's knowledge. The results obtained are an increase in adolescent vocational high school Baitussalam Pekalongan City after counseling about adolescent growth and development and the dangers of smoking in adolescents.
