The quality of groundwater in and around the city of Tiflet depends mainly on the various anthropogenic impacts on ecosystems where the Maamora groundwater in this region is subject to liquid discharges from the city of Tiflet from Oued Tiflet and infiltration of leachate from the uncontrolled landfill. With the ultimate aim of considering the necessary solutions and ensuring the means of protecting water resources and sustainable development of the Tiflet region, the study of the physical, chemical and bacteriological quality of groundwater (Maamora groundwater) from the city of Tiflet to the centre of the commune of Sidi Boukhelkhal, which is located north-west of the city and on the banks of Oued Tiflet, is the first step. These results are processed by ArcGis software and presented by interpolation maps. The bacteriological characterization of groundwater shows that it is not drinkable but acceptable for agricultural use, however, physico-chemical parameters such as nitrates and sulphates remain below the quality standards for human consumption. Turbidity, pH and conductivity vary according to space but also do not exceed quality standards in irrigation and human consumption.

The catchment area of River das Antas (Irati, Paraná, Brazil) is of high importance both for human consumption and irrigation. Within Irati, this river passes through a rural area and through the city of Irati, crossing both poor and rich neighbourhoods. We selected three study areas downstream (a rural area, poor community, and rich neighbourhood) in which we measured turbidity, the concentration of sediments and pH during rainy days. Our results showed downstream trends of increasing turbidity and concentrations of sediments with decreasing pH. The values of turbidity and of concentration of sediments were significantly different in the rural area, while the pH values were significantly different between the three study areas. These findings highlight the effect of agricultural activities in the generation of sediments and turbidity. The—presumably expected—effects of organic urban waste from the poor neighbourhood were also detected in the pH values. We conclude that efforts should be made to ensure that land planning and training/education programmes on sustainable farming practices are undertaken by the authorities to reduce water pollution and its effects on water bodies during rainfall events, since paving streets is not a feasible option in the short term due to the high costs associated with this measure.

Objective. The study aimed to determine the physico-chemical and microbiological quality of ice blocks sold in selected wet markets located in the city of Manila. Methods. Twenty-eight samples were collected from three markets. Microbiological quality was analyzed in terms of the presence or absence of coliforms with E. coli as indicator organism. Physico-chemical quality was determined by measuring turbidity, apparent color, pH, iron, and residual chlorine. Measurements obtained were compared with the 2007 Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW). Results. Results showed that all samples tested positive for coliforms while 25 out of the 28 samples were positive for E. coli. Mean turbidity was 2.74 ± 3.68 NTU; for both apparent color and iron tests, all samples complied with the PNSDW standard limit set; mean pH was 6.15 ± 0.64; and mean residual chlorine was 0.06 ± 0.02 mg/L. Average values of apparent color and iron comply with the PNSDW standards. Six out of 28 samples had turbidity values exceeding the standards. All samples were found to have residual chlorine levels below the standards. Conclusion. Ice in markets do not comply with key 2007 PNSDW standards and findings warrant strict compliance of ice quality from manufacturers to the point of distribution to protect consumer health.

This study investigates the feasibility of the utilization of monsoon rainwater for domestic purpose in Bangladesh. A survey was done in Rajshahi city in Bangladesh about the prospect and possibilities of rainwater harvesting (RWH). RWH system was not found in any individual or commercial apartment in the city. But, however, in rainy season, women about 46% houses used to collect rainwater from their roofs for domestic uses at least once in a year. In this study, a numbers of rainwater samples were collected from open atmosphere and through two different roof catchments (galvanized iron and concrete) and analysed the physico-chemical quality. pH of all the samples ranges from 6.3 to 7.7. The results showed the physico-chemical quality of the samples were found within the limits of WHO's standard of drinking water except the particulate matter in rainwater. The study recommend that the rainwater would be allowed to stand for 6-10 hours to settle more than 90% of the particulate matter and a 3-4 folds fine thin clothes could be used as filter to remove almost all particulate matter from the water. Moreover, the study observed that the microbial treatment technologies such as chlorination, solar or UV radiations would be technically feasible and economically sound to destroy micrograms in stored rainwater. Further research is imperative on potential indicators of both microbiological quality and health risk to minimize contamination of roof-collected rainwater.

AbstractThe Mezam River and its tributaries constitute a prominent water source for domestic use and vegetable irrigation in Bamenda Town (North West Cameroon). The river flows through the city and is thus vulnerable to impairment by substances from point and non-point sources. This current research aims to assess the degree of pollution of the Mezam River water to ascertain its suitability for various uses. A total of 24 water samples were collected from six segments of the Mezam River basin in the dry and rainy seasons during the years 2015 and 2016 in view of physico-chemical and bacteriological analyses. In situ measurement of physical parameters was taken in the field. The data were analysed by multivariate statistical techniques (principal component analysis and factor analysis). The results revealed that the river water is slightly acidic (pH = 5.45–6.47) and ion concentration is low (41.67–237.00 µS/cm). The water type is Ca-SO4 and Ca-Mg-(Cl + NO3) in the dry season and Ca-Mg-SO4 in the rainy season. High NO3− values (50 mg/l) are recorded at Nkimefueh. The Mezam River water is heavily polluted with indicator bacteria (0–500 CFU/100 ml) whose concentrations steadily increase from the reference point (YB) through sampling points in the city centre, suggesting the influence of human-induced activities. The population is urged to adopt a responsible behaviour towards waste disposal and refrain from disposing waste in water courses in order to safeguard the aquatic environment and also protect the health of the population.

Abstract The quality of river water is essential for the survival of living beings, whether for agricultural, livestock or human consumption. This study was carried out in the province of Junín, in different districts of Huancayo, the analysis of the samples was carried out in the continental university, from which the data were obtained for comparisons. This investigation revealed that the Chanchas river water has a higher concentration of pollutants during the afternoons since the pH is 8.69 (alkaline), being within the environmental quality standards, however these waters are not recommended for irrigation because it would cause plants do not absorb nutrients properly. Likewise, it was shown that the pH values of the drinking water of the four districts are similar, being 7.36, verifying that it is within the maximum permissible limit and suitable for consumption.

In a bid to ascertain the quality of water for human consumption in Kashere Metropolis, essential physico-chemical parameters were evaluated on samples of drinking water obtained from boreholes, pond and wells located at densely populated areas, labelled as: Kashere cattle market Pond, KP; Kashere cottage Hospital Borehole, HB; Kashere Market Borehole, MB; Federal University, Kashere (FUK) campus Borehole, CB; Kashere cottage Hospital Well, HW; Kashere Market Well, MW and FUK campus Well, CW. Standard procedure for the determination of chemical and physical characteristics of the water samples were used. The results of the investigated parameters in the samples were as follows: ρH 6.61‒7.96, Turbidity 0.0‒2568 FTU, Electrical Conductivity 60.5‒1151 Mhocm-1, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) 25.9‒518.0 mgL-1, Ca 0.0033‒0.5446 ppm, Mg 0.0793‒1.2215 ppm, Cd 0.0010‒0.0030 ppm, Zn 0.0024‒0.l054 ppm, Pb 0.0002‒0.0026 ppm and Fe 0.0044‒0.5649 ppm. Except for the concentration of Fe (in CB; 0.5649 ppm), all the analyzed minor and major cations in the water samples were in very low concentration and below the permissible limits of WHO standard guidelines values for drinking water.  It is recommended that, water from the pond should be properly treated before consumption due to its high turbidity.  Also periodic assessment of the quality of drinking water from these water sources should be conducted, to ascertain that they are not contaminated by either or both organic and inorganic pollutants.

Water is a precious and essential natural resource for multiple uses. Its use for food or hygiene requires excellent physicochemical and microbiological quality. To assess the quality of well water for human consumption in the Al Hoceima region which is located in North of Morocco, a physico-chemical and bacteriological control was carried out on the basis of 10 water samples from wells in this area. The analyzes were performed on these samples by measuring the following physic-chemical parameters: temperature, pH, electric conductivity (EC), chloride (Cl -),dissolved oxygen, nitrate (NO3 -), and possibly seeking unwanted bacteria (total bacteria, total coliforms, fecal coliforms, fecal streptococci). The samples were analyzed systematically to measure all the physicochemical indicators of pollution. Correlation between pollution parameters were conducted to give a reponse element on the main causes pollution. The results performed analysis, revealed a pollution of an agricultural origin. This is confirmed by the maximum levels of chlorides, which exceed 2640 mg/l, thereby explaining the high conductivity levels (4800μs/cm). In addition 14% of analyzed wells have nitre levels 50mg/l nitrate pollution a not alarming. However, if a pollution of agricultural origin is mentioned, the lithological contribution can not be neglected on the results obtained.

Arsenic (As) is a toxic element present in the environment posing a threat to consumers health. To identify the arsenic content in rivers, páramos, and wells in the city of Cuenca, and in rivers in the city of Azogues, two monitoring campaigns in the period August-November 2017 were conducted, respectively during a low and high flow hydrological period. The measurements encompassed physicochemical quality indicators such as pH, color, turbidity, and conductivity. Results show that the páramos and wells are free of As, while this toxic substance is present in surface water with higher levels in periods of high flow. A significant association between the concentration of As and the pH of river water was found. The risk of chronic toxicity from consumption is almost non-existent because the observed As levels exceed only exceptionally the permissible limit established by the Ecuadorian TULSMA (Unified Text of Secondary Environmental Legislation) regulation. The presence of As in surface water is the result of anthropological activities such as the use of pesticides. A permanent monitoring of the quality of water resources for human consumption is necessary, particularly in the rainy season, due to the diffuse and difficult to control pollution processes.

[ID] Di kabupaten Kepulauan Meranti khususnya Masyarakat Kecamatan Rangsang pada umumnya menggunakan air hujan dan air Sungai sebagai kebutuhan air bersih sehari-hari, jika pada musim kemarau masyarakat pada umumnya sulit mendapatkan air bersih. Dengan adanya Sarana penyediaan air bersih yang dibangun oleh pemerintahan Kabupaten Kepulauan Meranti yaitu Sarana Penyediaan Air Minum (SPAM) ini sangat membantu dalam memenuhi kebutuhan air bersih masyarakat. Dilihat secara warna, air bersih yang di produksi oleh SPAM Kecamatan Rangsang berwarna kecoklatan, dilihat dari segi warna hampir sama dengan air baku SPAM Kecamatan Rangsang tersebut. Pada SPAM Kecamatan Rangsang ini proses pengolahan air bersih menggunakan metode koagulasi, flokulasi, sedimentasi dan filtrasi. Peneliti mencoba meninjau apakah proses-proses pengolahannya telah sesuai dengan metode yang telah di terapkan, mengetahui kualitas air bersih yang dihasilkan serta mengetahui masalah-masalah yang terdapat pada SPAM Kecamatan Rangsang tersebut. Dari hasil penelitian yang dilakukan untuk pemprosesan air bersih adanya proses yang tidak dilakukan yaitu tidak dilakukan pembubuhan zat Koagulan,  hal tersebut dikarenakan zat-zat Koagulan yang ada di SPAM Kecamatan Rangsang tidak tersedia untuk saat ini. Untuk kualitas air bersih yang di produksi SPAM Kecamatan Rangsang tidak memenuhi standar kualitas air bersih berdasarkan peraturan menteri kesehatan nomor 416 tahun 1990 tentang “syarat-syarat dan pengawasan kualitas air” yaitu air bersih sesuai dengan hasil uji laboratorium dinas kesahatan kota pekanbaru pada tanggal 13 November 2017, serta terdapat beberapa alat yang tidak beroperasi, yaitu rusaknya 1 buah pompa Intake  dan 1 buah pompa distribusi [EN] In the Meranti Islands district, especially in the Subdistrict of Rangsang District, the people generally use rain water and river water as their daily clean water needs, if in the dry season the community in general is difficult to get clean water. With the availability of clean water facilities built by the government of the Meranti Islands Regency, the Drinking Water Supply Facility (SPAM) is very helpful in meeting the community's clean water needs. Viewed in color, the clean water produced by SPAM in the District of Rangsang is brownish in color, in terms of color it is almost the same as the SPAM raw water in the District of Rangsang. At SPAM in the District of Rangsang, the process of treating clean water uses the methods of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation and filtration. Researchers try to review whether the treatment processes are in accordance with the methods that have been applied, find out the quality of clean water produced and find out the problems found in the SPB Subdistrict. From the results of research conducted for the processing of clean water there is a process that is not done that is not done by adding coagulant substances, it is because the coagulant substances in SPAM Subdistrict, Rangsang District are not available at this time. For the quality of clean water produced by SPAM in the Subdistrict of Rangsang District, it does not meet clean water quality standards based on the Minister of Health Regulation number 416 of 1990 concerning "requirements and quality control of water", which is clean water in accordance with the results of laboratory tests on the city health office Pekanbaru on November 13 2017, and there are some tools that are not operating, namely the damage of 1 Intake pump and 1 distribution pump.
