Local governments in the Slovak Republic are important in public administration and form an important part of the public sector, as they provide various public services. Until 1990, all public services were provided only by the state. The reform of public administration began in 1990 with the decentralization of competencies. Several competencies were transferred to local governments from the state, and thus municipalities began to provide public services that the state previously provided. Registry offices were the first to be acquired by local governments from the state. This study aimed to characterize the transfer of competencies and their financing from state administration to local government using the example of registry offices in the Slovak Republic. In the paper, we evaluated the financing of this competency from 2007 to 2018 at the level of individual regions of the Slovak Republic. The results of the analysis and testing of hypotheses indicated that a higher number of inhabitants in individual regions did not affect the number of actions at these offices, despite the fact that the main role of the registry office is to keep registry books, in which events, such as births, weddings, and deaths, are registered.

Research background: The subsistence minimum category is used in the Slovak Republic in determining several wage and tax categories. In this paper I analyze whether the set standard of living is sufficient with regard to the development of the average wage since 1993 to the present day. Subsequently, the quantities that are based on the subsistence level - non-taxable amounts of the taxpayers’ tax base are also analyzed. The results of the analysis show that the distance between the subsistence level and the level of non-taxable parts has gradually increased. The topic of payrolls and related wage variables is a complex and ever-changing topic. Not many authors in Slovakia pay attention to it, and due to constant changes in the given area, the findings of publications and papers is also limited. Purpose of the article: This paper deals with general theoretical, legal and historical starting points and links between non-taxable parts and the subsistence minimum. The paper presents a cross-section of the history of the application of non-taxable parts in the Slovak Republic. Methods: The method used in the paper is that of hypotheses determination and testing. Findings & Value added: This paper also analyzes the state of national regulation and development trends in the area. In addition to constructive criticism, the article also contains suggestions for improving the current situation.

The article deals with the Ukrainian-Slovak relations through the prism of political, economic, and humanitarian support of the neighboring Slovakia of our country today. It covers relations of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Prešov with ordinary Ukrainians abroad, various public organizations in Slovakia, Ukrainian cultural and educational associations, as well as representatives of the authorities of the two countries - Ukraine and Slovakia - based on the materials of archives, literature, and press. The article outlines the factors and circumstances that influenced the opinions, moods of the Ukrainian state leaders regarding the possibility of continuing the Ukrainian diplomatic representation in Prešov to function. The main attention is paid to the evolution of relations between the Ukrainian and Slovak authorities, since the very understanding between the higher authorities of the states could ultimately solve an important issue for ordinary Ukrainians being in the territory of Slovakia - the ability to resolve issues in the territory of another state without moral and physical inconvenience. The role of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Prešov is highlighted, as well as the problems that have arisen in the lives of the Ukrainians in Slovak Republic due to the liquidation of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Prešov in November 2014.

Sampling is an important part of marketing for non-durable goods meaning food products. It provides space not only to introduce news on the market but also remind traditional types of products with innovative ingredients, new flavours and other variations. Moreover, the significant role of sampling is to support the sale of promoted products. The participation of promoter sustains this main role of sampling (support the sale). Following this reason, it is necessary to perceive the social aspects of sampling concerning customers and their purchasing decisions. The main purpose of the research is to verify the sampling efficiency concerning the customer purchase decisions in the conditions of the Slovak Republic considering the influence of the promoters, their behaviour and appearance. In addition to price factor impact on customer purchase decisions, the paper solved the social aspects of the interaction with the promoter and the taste of the product. For obtaining relevant results, 484 customers of retail stores and at the same time participants of sampling have been included in the survey. For meeting the stated goal, the methodological tool of the research method was a questionnaire survey which addressed the sampling participants. The paper presents the results that in most cases, Slovak customers don't purchase the product immediately after the sampling. When they decide to buy, the central aspect is the taste of the product and not the price. Thus, in a taste-price ratio, the taste is considered more convincing and more effective. This finding is in contrasts with previous ones about consumer's price sensitivity. Since sampling is a humanized sales promotion, it is also necessary to perceive the social factors of interaction with the promoter on the purchase decision. Sampling participants consider the behaviour of the promoter and communication skills to be significantly more important than the appearance. The results of the research could be useful to reveal a considerable room for improvement concerning purchase decisions after sampling. It can be influenced by increasing attractiveness of sampling by interesting innovations, either in the products themselves or in the forms of sampling provisions. Keywords customers, preferences, product sampling, promoters, purchase decision, social aspects

Gamification in marketing can be understood as the use of game mechanisms to motivate customers and encourage them to behave in a specific way and interact in some activities or communities in order to increase their satisfaction, loyalty and commitment, thereby contributing to brand building. There are many foreign works confirming the benefits of gamification. However, there is an absence of any known studies explicitly conducted into gamification within a marketing context in the Slovak Republic. This paper therefore attempts to address this kind of research gap and answer the question of whether gamification is a more effective form of promotion for improving the purchasing behaviour of customers in Slovakia. The results of the research confirm that gamification as part of sales promotion has a positive effect on the purchasing behaviour, search intentions and attitudes of Slovak customers. The results also indicate the positive mediation role of motivation based theory related to gamification and customer purchasing behaviour.

In the article the experience of post-socialist transformation in the Slovak Republic after the Velvet Revolution and gaining of independence after the collapse of Czechoslovakia in 1993 was examined. The process of reforming of the society and state, the transition from the communist to the western model of economy, the role of public sector on the path to EU and NATO accession were investigated. It was defined that the reforming of authorities, society and the state, which had already begun in the common state of Czechs and Slovaks under the leadership of V. Havel in 1990-1992, had a great value for the formation of independent Slovakia, because, despite some differences, the European destination became a key point which determined the process of accelerated modernization and the transition from planned socialism to a free market relation. It was determined that the «peaceful divorce» with Czech Republic had become one of the most important steps on the way for successful European integration of Slovakia. The key role of civil society in the transforming of Slovak state and overcoming the negative consequences of the dominance of communist ideology on the path of European and Euro Atlantic integration was represented. The public sector has become a driving force that guided Slovak society towards accelerated modernization in 1998-2006. It was shown the process of struggle of the European choice supporters with pro-Russian policy of V. Meciar, whose period should be generally considered as a «Slovak kuchmism». The final victory of pro-European forces in the 1998 elections led to the acceleration of modernization processes in Slovakia, implementation of required changes in society and state managing necessary for EU and NATO accession.
