Urbanisation is increasing rapidly and street design are affected due to current needs which are depending on motorised vehicles. Street become a thouroughfare and pedestrian needs are neglected. The charm of old street where priority were given to pedestrian and cyclist has lost. Pedestrian needs are constantly affected by the changing of built environment especially for women. The way women perceive a safe environment is rather different compared to men even though men do face risk in the environment. In order to create a safe street, the elements are not merely on the street but physical and social elements around it. The design of built environment does affect the way people perceive and behave. The aim of this research is to explore women’s perception of safety in the streets of Kuala Lumpur particularly at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. The study adopted a mixed-method approach of qualitative and quantitative in order to understand the safety perception among women that will later establish the relationship between built environment and human psychology. Respondents were selected randomly around Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Questionnaire survey forms were distributed and structured observation was conducted at interval period at these streets to examined and assess women’s behavior. Finding shows that fear does affect women’s perception and physical design of the streets are important in affecting their behavior.

PurposeThis study aims to evaluate impacts of construction professionals (CPs) conflict on performance in the Nigerian construction industry (NCI).Design/methodology/approachA quantitative method was used for this research. Questionnaires were sent to various CPs in Southwestern part of Nigeria. A total of 150 questionnaires were sent out, while 135 were gotten back from the partakers. The data received from the partakers were computed by applying descriptive and exploratory factor analysis.FindingsIn this study, conflict leads to the abandonment of the CPs’ task being rated highest by the participants. This was followed by conflict that results in insufficient communication, generates job pressure, results to frustrations and displeasure among the CPs, helps in early problem identification, causes work damage among professionals, helps in solving professional organization problems, improves productivity of professionals, improves communication among the professionals and so on.Research limitations/implicationsThis paper is limited to CPs that are members of professional bodies in Nigeria, and only 135 participants participated. Though, this paper suggests that a mixed-method approach should be utilized in further studies with a wider coverage.Practical implicationsThe findings from this paper will increase the understanding of CPs in Nigeria on various impacts of conflict on performance in the construction industry, most specifically the professional bodies. Moreover, this study will increase the knowledge of CPs to always avoid whatever that leads to the abandonment of their tasks. Additionally, this study will benefit the CPs to avoid insufficient communication among themselves, in order to accomplish great performance and efficiency in their respective professional bodies.Originality/valueSince previous studies on impacts of construction conflict in Nigeria were only focused on contractors and consultants in construction project, this current study filled the gap by evaluating the impacts of CPs’ conflict on performance in the NCI. Also, the method of analysis used for this study is exemptional because previous studies have overlooked the method. However, it is recommended that CPs must communicate more with others so as to ensure favorable conflict effects on performance.

The world today is driven by an instant and easy lifestyle. This can be seen from the development of digital-based information technology so that information can be managed in real-time without human assistance by using an automated and sophisticated system. In this case, M-Banking can assist in accessing banking information and services quickly and easily. M-Banking users in the millennial generation of Mulawarman University are low. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze the barriers that prevent the millennial generation of Mulawarman University from adopting M-Banking by implementing Innovation Resistance Theory (IRT). This study uses a quantitative method approach through filling out a questionnaire online involving 155 millennial generation respondents at Mulawarman University to empirically test the innovation resilience model. The results showed that of the six barriers studied, value barriers, traditional barriers and image barriers had a negative effect on adoption intentions. This journal contributes by applying less learned perspectives through innovation resistance theory to assist banks in a deeper understanding of consumer behavior and perceptions and helping banks to develop solutions to increase the adoption rate of M-Banking itself.
