Abstract Background Transabdominal ultrasound scan (USS) is recommended for surveillance of gallbladder polyps (GBP), this is to stratify risk for premalignant potential. European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology make recommendations based on increases of as small 2mm during sequential USS surveillance. Our aim is to determine the accuracy of USS in diagnosis and measurement of GBP. Methods Measurement data for all GBPs were gathered for three hospital trusts across a 12 year period and retrospectively reviewed. USS findings (diagnosis of GBP and GBP size) were compared with histological diagnosis and measurements, when both reports were available, in those patients who had underwent cholecystectomy at the time of data collection. Results For the first two hospital trusts, 778 USS were reviewed which identified patients with GBP. 78 patients had undergone cholecystectomy at time of data collection. Only 17/78 of patients had histological evidence of GBP.  Of those without GBP, 37/61 had gallstones. For the third hospital trust, 41 GBP histological reports were identified, 20 could be directly compared with USS. Collectively 29 USS reports were directly compared with GBP histology reports. Only, 31% had results which were in agreement to within 1mm. The mean measurement discrepancy between both modalities was 5.41mm. Conclusions USS does not provide an accurate diagnosis of GBP, it is likely that USS misdiagnoses gallstones as GBP.  Moreover, when comparing USS measurements with histological data, there is 31% accuracy of measurement to within 1mm in this cohort. Current guidelines recommend cholecystectomy if there is an interval change of 2mm or more; this data shows a measurement error of more than this.

Attention to the dimensions of the human body has actually existed since centuries ago. Even philosophers, artists, and architects admire the size of the human body. The design of ancient worship such as the Greek temple is the result of the design collected from the proportional measures of various members of the human body. This study aims to explore the proportion of golden section found in the human body both men and women. Methods of data collection using anthropometric data of Indonesian people. Further data is analyzed proportion using golden section. The results of this study indicate that the human-Indonesian body contained the value of Golden Section proportion is the ratio between the height of the elbow standing with height; hip height with standing eye height; tall sitting eyes with a sitting vertical range; Vertical reach sits with standing vertical range; Knee height with sitting height. The value of the proportion of the golden section contained in the human body applies to both men and women. The results of this study can be an early reference findings, that the human body contained the value of the proportion of golden section. These findings still need to be explored with further research, given the problem of the proportion of golden section associated with the numbers so it requires accuracy of measurement data. Keyword: Anthropometry, Proportion, Golden Section Abstrak: Perhatian terhadap dimensi tubuh manusia sebenarnya sudah ada sejak berabad-abad silam. ABSTRACT An improved method for the determination of serum triiodothyronine (T3) has been developed. After addition of a tracer amount of the hormone, T3 was extracted from 1 ml serum under conditions of pH and ionic strength which favoured T3 extraction (89%) over thyroxine (T4) extraction (58%). Chromatography of the extracted material on Sephadex LH-20 separated T3 completely from residual T4. The T3 eluate was dried, then re-dissolved in 0.5 ml NaOH 0.04 n. To 0.2 ml duplicate aliquots, a standard amount of TBG was added for the competitive protein analysis. After one hour incubation at 4°C, separation of bound from free T3 was achieved on small Sephadex G-25 columns. Overall recovery was 67 ± 10.8% and correction for the loss was made. The solvent blank was 37 ± 27 (sd) ng/100 ml. Accuracy of measurement of known quantities of T3 added to serum was 98.4%. The coefficient of variation within the assay was 6.2% and between the assays it was 11.4%. The limit of detection (0.1 ng) corresponded to a concentration of 25 ng/100 ml. T4 added to serum did not interfere with T3 determination until high non-physiological values were reached. The mean ± sd serum T3 in 54 euthyroid subjects was 153 ± 58 ng/100 ml and in 24 hyperthyroid patients it was 428 ±186 ng/100 ml; 4 out of the 24 hyperthyroid values were within 2 sd of the mean euthyroid group. All the values found in the euthyroid group were well above the limit of detection of the method.

Abstract Background and aims: Gestational diabetes represents a form of diabetes diagnosed during pregnancy that is not clearly overt diabetes. In the last trimester of gestation the growth of fetoplacental unit takes place, thus maternal hyperglycemia will determine an increased transplacental passage, hyperinsulinemia and fetal macrosomia. The aim of our study was that o analyzing the effect of maternal glycemia from the last trimester of pregnancy over fetal weight. Material and method: We run an observational study on a group of 46 pregnant women taken into evidence from the first trimester of pregnancy, separated in two groups according to blood glucose determined in the third trimester (before birth): group I normoglycemic and group II with hyperglycemia (>92mg/dl). Results: The mean value of third trimester glycemia for the entire group was of 87.13±22.03. The mean value of the glycemia determined in the third trimester of pregnancy was higher in the second group (109.17 mg/dl) in comparison to the first group (74.,21 mg/dl). The ROC curve for third trimester glycemia as fetal macrosomia appreciation test has an AUC of 0.517. Conclusions: Glycemia determined in the last trimester of pregnancy cannot be used alone as the predictive factor for fetal macrosomia.
