Huawei’s Harmony may challenge Android-Apple duopoly

Significance The firm reportedly expects 300 million smartphones, tablets and other connected devices to run on this. If the OS succeeds, it could become a major competitor for Western technology, especially Apple’s iOS and the Android operating system, in China and in the developing world. It has limited prospects of success in developed markets. Impacts HarmonyOS may provide a platform for the internationalisation of other Chinese products and services. Chinese hardware manufacturers face a tough choice between using existing global technologies or sanctions-proof indigenous counterparts. Beijing could diplomatically support the internationalisation of HarmonyOS.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to integrate and extend two models of entrepreneurial intention to investigate the drivers of sustainable entrepreneurial intention among intermediate undergraduate university students in Nigeria. Specifically, this paper aims to introduce education for sustainable entrepreneurship into the integrated model, thereby fitting the model into the context of sustainable entrepreneurship. Design/methodology/approach Data was gathered with the help of a structured questionnaire from 435 students of a university in Nigeria. The students passed through a special entrepreneurship training in which they were educated on the concept and practice of sustainable entrepreneurship. SmartPLS was used to test the proposed structural model. Findings The findings revealed that education for sustainable entrepreneurship significantly influences all variables of the integrated model, but has nonsignificant direct influence on sustainable entrepreneurial intention. Sustainable entrepreneurial intention is significantly driven by attitude and propensity to act. Therefore, the inclusion of education for sustainable entrepreneurship into the regression equation adds to its explanatory power. Originality/value This study contributes toward understanding of sustainable entrepreneurial intention of intermediate university students in a developing world context – Nigeria. Above all, it is among the few studies that shed light on the strength of education for sustainable entrepreneurship in the formation of sustainable entrepreneurial intention among students. This study proposes integration and extension (by adding education for sustainable entrepreneurship) of the theory of planned behavior and entrepreneurial event model in learning about students’ intentions to engage in sustainable entrepreneurship.

PurposeThe authors present the results of a survey on how Korean firms evaluate new projects and estimate their capital costs. The authors report how Korean firms’ capital budgeting practices compare to other developed countries and to best practices in the field of finance.Design/methodology/approachThe authors survey CFOs of major Korean firms on their capital budgeting practices. The authors then compare the results against the US and European firms and best practices of leading firms and financial advisors.FindingsThe authors find that the capital budgeting practices of Korean firms are as strong as or stronger than firms in developed markets. A majority of Korean firms use best practices techniques such as NPV, IRR and the CAPM for project evaluation and cost of equity estimation. Chaebol affiliation results in somewhat stronger capital budgeting practices. The authors also find that other factors, such as company size, leverage, CEO age and CEO education, impact capital budgeting practices.Originality/valueThis paper is the first article that comprehensively examines Korean firms' capital budgeting practices.

This paper evaluates the performances of numerous encryption algorithms on mobile devices running the Android operating system. The primary objective of our research was to measure and compare the relative performances of tested algorithm implementations (Data Encryption Standard (DES), 3DES, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), ChaCha20, Blowfish, and Rivest Cipher 4 (RC4)) on the Android platform. The algorithms were compared in terms of CPU utilization by measuring the time required to encrypt and decrypt variable size text files. Besides evaluating the six common symmetric encryption ciphers, a comparison has been conducted for several Password-Based Encryption (PBE) algorithms. Diverse cipher transformations were evaluated for each algorithm by utilizing various feedback modes and padding schemes. Two smartphone devices were used for testing, with different versions of the Android operating system and hardware specifications. The summarized performance outcomes for various cipher transformations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of each algorithm.

Robots imitating spider’s moving have many advantages such as flexible movement, high stability, diversity in movements performed, especially in terrain  crossing, in military reconnaissance, in surveying and collecting environmental data in dangerous areas,.... In this article  with the main objective is to exploit multiple control methods to support applications of a spider robot with low-cost, a spider robot with 6 legs and 18 joints was designed. The ESPWROOM-32 module (ESP32-D0WDQ6 chip) and MIT App Inventor were used as the main tools for conducting this research. As a result, the robot is controlled via Bluetooth and Wifi to move, making some actions by self-written software running on the Android operating system. In addition, the robot has the capacity of self-propelled to avoid simple obstacles and send some environmental parameters to the software, including obstacles distance, humidity and temperature.
