Petrofabric contributions are here classified into seven categories, namely: (1) descriptive techniques; (2) kinematic analyses; (3) geometric analyses of folds; (4) absolute strain analyses; (5) studies of experimentally deformed single crystals and rocks; (6) dynamic analyses of deformation features in naturally deformed rocks; and (7) studies for engineering rock mechanics. The nature of each subfield is given, and items (2) and (6) are discussed in detail. The principles of kinematic analysis through symmetry are reviewed with the aid of simple models of brittle and ductile deformations in which componental displacements are specified and the symmetry of the initial and final fabric is known. The models illustrate the degree of similarity among the symmetries of the fabric, componental displacements, deformation (strain and rigid-body rotation), and states of stress that exist in rocks at the time a fabric element forms. Both isotropic and anisotropic models are considered. In the more realistic cases the symmetry of the pattern of componental displacements is identical to the symmetry of the resulting fabric. If the body behaves isotropically during the deformation, symmetry elements in the final fabric will be common to corresponding elements in the symmetries of the states of stress and deformation. If, however, the body behaves anisotropically one cannot relate symmetry elements in the final fabric to the symmetry of the states of stress and deformation without making assumptions about the symmetry of the anisotropy. The study of fabric symmetry may contribute some detail to the geometric pattern of the strain or displacement fields, but is otherwise of little use in furthering understanding of the mechanics of geologic deformation. Results of dynamic analysis, which involve determination of the orientations and relative magnitudes of principal stresses in naturally deformed rocks, are critically reviewed. The principal axes inferred from fractures, twin lamellae, deformation lamellae, etc., are those within the material at the instant the fabric element forms. As such they correspond to the incremental stresses which are coincident with the incremental strains in linear materials. Certain generalizations are drawn from previous work on slightly and moderately deformed rocks in which the orientation of the incremental stresses and strains are probably coincident with the total stresses and strains. The critique leads to a working philosophy to guide future studies, namely: dynamic petrofabric analyses provide the means for testing hypotheses generated through theoretical and experimental studies of rock deformation. A study should be designed to test specific hypotheses. Samples should be collected from critical domains where the results may provide a basis of choice between alternative hypotheses. The techniques need to be refined to distinguish small differences in the orientations of principal stress axes deduced from fabric data. The chronological sequence in the development of the fabric elements requires attention. Several suggestions along these lines are offered.

The drawbacks associated with bio-fuels can be minimized by making modifications to combustion chamber. Modification of combustion chamber is achieved by providing an air gap in between the crown and the body of the piston with the top crown made of low thermal conductivity material. Experimentation is carried on a diesel engine with brass as piston crown material and karanja as test fuel, which is found to be a better alternative fuel based on the tests carried out prior to modification. Investigations are carried out on the performance of the engine with modified combustion chamber consisting of air gap insulated piston with 2 mm air gap with brass crown when fuelled with karanja oil. Comparative studies are made between the two configurations of engine with and without modification at an injection timing of 29obTDC. Performance, heat balance and emission plots are made with respect to brake power. Fuel consumption increased with modification. The mechanical and volumetric efficiencies are similar in both the cases. Indicated and brake thermal efficiencies got reduced with modification. But, it is good to see that HC and CO emissions are showing positive trend. Thus, the present investigation hints the possibility of improvements while making piston modification and providing air gap insulation.

Decomposition is a natural process that begins approximately four minutes after death and continues until the body is degraded to simpler biochemical components which are gradually recycled back to the environment. This process is dependent on extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Embalming is a chemical preservation technique that aims to preserve the external appearance of the body in good condition for an indeterminate period. In Spain, there is a lack of experimental studies carried out to analyse the variables that affect decomposition in embalmed bodies, therefore, in accordance with the conclusions reached by previous authors, it is hypothesised that embalmed bodies show quantifiable characteristics during the late stage decomposition which distinguish them from control, unembalmed, cadavers. An anthropological and statistical analysis was performed on 14 individuals from Cementerio Sur de Madrid exhumed after ten years according to the Mortuary Health Law of the Autonomous Region of Madrid. The preliminary results obtained showed that there is a qualitative and statistically significant relationship between the variables evaluated, being the presence or absence of soft tissue the most notable difference. The mortuary or thanatopraxy treatments performed before the burial and the microenvironmental conditions of the burial positively influence the soft tissue preservation on embalmed bodies. These results contribute to the understanding about the decomposition rate of an embalmed cadavers in cemeteries, and the related extrinsic variables.

The influence of various rhythmic extreme cold effects on the state of autonomic regulation of heart rate in young and aged rats was studied. According to the spectral analysis of heart rate variability, it has been found that in young rats, using rhythmic extreme cold exposures (RECE) temperature regimens of (-120 °С; -120 °С; -120 °С) and (-60 °С; -120 °С; -120 °С) significantly increased adaptive capabilities of the body due to the activation of its own homeostatic regulatory systems. At the same time, the combined regimen of RECE (-60 °С; -120 °С; -120 °С) occurred to be the most optimal for aged animals, since its use was not accompanied with an excessive activation of sympathoadrenal system at the early stages of experimental studies, in contrast to the regimen (-120 °С; -120 °С; -120 °С). In addition, the use of this cooling mode contributed to a statistically significant increase in the total power of spectrum of neurohumoral regulation not so much due to a rise in activity of humoral-metabolic regulation link, the prevalence of which is characteristic of an old age, but due to an increase in the tone of vegetative centers, herewith the parasympathetic effects on the myocardium prevailed sympathetic ones.

Background. The deficiency of essential nutrients in the human body is the root cause of reduced efficiency, general resistance of the body to various diseases. That is an urgent problem in the context of the spread of coronavirus infection. In this regard, the search for opportunities to meet the needs of the population in food products that contain biologically active substances (BAS) through the use of high-value and at the same time available plant raw materials is extremely important. Marigolds attract special attention among such raw materials. The aim of the work is to study the chemical composition and evaluate the consumer properties of Tagetes L. varieties, zoned in the Kiev region, to prove the possibility of increasing the biological value of pasta by adding to their recipe powder from marigold inflorescences. Materials and methods. The object of research is pasta of B group (noodles). Inflorescences of marigolds of different varieties gathered during the flowering period in July-September 2019–2020 in the territory of Vasylkiv and Obukhiv districts of Kyiv region, Ukraine were used as enriching plant raw materials. The quality of finished pasta was assessed by organoleptic and physicochemical indexes (moisture content and titratable acidity). The content of mineral elements in the fine powder of marigold inflorescences was determined on the EXHERT-3L device, the quantitative composition and BAS identification – by spectrophotometric analysis on the device Specord-200 Analytic Jena UV-vis. The integrated quality index of pasta products was calculated taking into account the importance factors of individual indexes. Results. Comparing the obtained results, we can state that all the studied varieties – Gold Kopfen, Orange Flame, Hawaii, Equinox are characterized by high biological value, regardless of the area of collection. As a result of calculated and experimental studies it was determined that the addition of 7 % of the supplement does not provide the required supply of vitamins and minerals. Replacing the flour in the recipe by 20 % significantly improves the mineral composition, but deteriorates the taste and aromatic properties of pasta. The most optimal and rational amount of added additive is 15 %, as it improves the organoleptic properties of pasta and enriches their BAS. Conclusion. The usage of non-traditional vegetable raw materials, in particular powder from marigold inflorescences, which is rich in biologically active substances, allows not only to expand the range, improve the quality of finished products, but also increase the biological value of the product. The optimal amount of additive –powder from marigold inflorescences, was defined. It is 15 % by weight of flour in the production of noodles. This concentration allows not only to improve the organoleptic properties, but also to increase the content of biologically active substances – vitamins, micro- and macronutrients. The usage of non-traditional natural raw materials (powder from marigold inflorescences) allows to abandon artificial colorsand give the finished pasta a pleasant colorand aroma.

The article deals with the method of obtaining a hard chromium coating on details of the "body of rotation" type with the use of an abrasive tool. The influence of the composition and hardness of the elastic abrasive tool on the results of galvanomechanical chromium plating of rotating cylindrical parts has been studied. Binder compositions for an abrasive tool used to improve the roughness of the deposited chromium layer have been developed. A series of experimental studies has been carried out with chromium plating of steel cylindrical parts with simultaneous abrasive processing. Beforehand, an abrasive tool with previously developed binder formulations was manufactured. The obtained results of the influence of the characteristics of the abrasive tool and its pressing force on the chromium-plated part on the quality of the precipitated chromium made it possible to determine the optimum modes for obtaining a coating of the required thickness. Also, a suitable abrasive tool has been chosen to obtain a coating of proper quality.

Introduction. The transition of glucose into the blood during automated peritoneal dialysis with regeneration of the dialysis fluid leads to a decreased removal of excess fluid from the body and corresponding violations of the water-salt balance.Aim. To consider a system for automatically maintaining the concentration of glucose in the dialysate solution, which provides effective ultrafiltration, as well as to propose a non-contact photometric feedback sensor.Materials and methods. The sensor is an optical system of an IR laser diode with a power of 30 mW and a wavelength of 1600 nm, a photodiode and a quartz tube, through which the test solution circulates. The sensor measures the attenuation of the radiation passing through the solution in a pulsed mode and calculates the glucose concentration. The selected combination of digital filters provides compensation for the noise of the optical system. Experimental studies of the efficiency of the sensor were carried out on peritoneal dialysis solutions with various concentrations of urea, creatinine, uric acid and glucose. At the beginning of the experiments, the sensor was calibrated in a pure solution.Results. It was shown that the developed sensor makes it possible to measure the concentration of glucose in a solution for peritoneal dialysis in the range of 42…220 mmol / l with a relative error of about 15%. The time of one measurement is about 1 minute, which makes it possible to obtain up-to-date information on the current concentration of the solution.Conclusion. This combination of characteristics will allow the sensor to be used in artificial kidney wearable devices for assessing the glucose content in the solution, calculating the time to change the solution and as a feedback sensor in a system for maintaining the concentration of the osmotic agent.

Abstract Background: Herpes simplex virus type 2 infects the body and becomes an incurable and recurring disease. The pathogenesis of HSV-2 infection is not completely clear. Methods: We analyze the GSE18527 dataset in the GEO database in this paper to obtain distinctively displayed genes(DDGs)in the total sequential RNA of the biopsies of normal and lesioned skin groups, healed skin and lesioned skin groups of genital herpes patients, respectively. The related data of 3 cases of normal skin group, 4 cases of lesioned group and 6 cases of healed group were analyzed. The histospecific gene analysis , functional enrichment and protein interaction network analysis of the differential genes were also performed, and the critical components were selected. Results: 40 up-regulated genes and 43 down-regulated genes were isolated by differential performance assay.Histospecific gene analysis of DDGs suggested that the most abundant system for gene expression was the skin, immune system and the nervous system.Through the construction of core gene combinations, protein interaction network analysis and selection of histospecific distribution genes, 17 associated genes were selected:CXCL10,MX1,ISG15,IFIT1,IFIT3,IFIT2,OASL,ISG20,RSAD2,GBP1,IFI44L,DDX58,USP18,CXCL11,GBP5,GBP4 and CXCL9.The above genes are mainly located in the skin, immune system, nervous system and reproductive system. Conclusion:This paper elucidates an effective approach for a new mechanism of HSV-2 infection, and the molecular mechanism of the selected core genes in the process of HSV-2 infection requires future experimental studies.

A study has been undertaken to test the value of unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) and traditional semi-empirical methods in the face of complex ship roll phenomena, and provide insight into the selection of bilge keel span for varying roll amplitudes. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code STAR-CCM+ is employed and two-dimensional submerged bodies undergoing forced roll motion are analyzed. The spatial resolution and timestepping scheme are validated by comparison with published numerical and experimental studies. The model is then applied to a fully-submerged circular cylinder with bilge keels of varying span and undergoing roll motion at varying angular amplitudes. Extracted hydrodynamic coefficients indicate that in general, increasing displacement amplitude and bilge keel span yields increased added mass and increased damping. The relationship is complex and highly dependent upon vortex interactions with each other and the body. The semi-empirical methods used for comparison yield good predictions for simple vortex interactions but fail where viscous effects are strong. Hence, URANS methods are shown to be necessary for friction-dominated flows while semi-empirical methods remain useful for initial design considerations.
