Organizations are increasingly adopting Agile frameworks for their internal software development. Cost reduction, rapid deployment, requirements and mental model alignment are typical reasons for an Agile transformation. This article presents an in-depth field study of a large-scale Agile transformation in a mission-critical environment, where stakeholders’ commitment was a critical success factor. The goal of such a transformation was to implement mission-oriented features, reducing costs and time to operate in critical scenarios. The project lasted several years and involved over 40 professionals. We report how a hierarchical and plan-driven organization exploited Agile methods to develop a Command & Control (C2) system. Accordingly, we first abstract our experience, inducing a success model of general use for other comparable organizations by performing a post-mortem study. The goal of the inductive research process was to identify critical success factors and their relations. Finally, we validated and generalized our model through Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modelling, surveying 200 software engineers involved in similar projects. We conclude the article with data-driven recommendations concerning the management of Agile projects.

In the modern world, software plays an integral role, following an effective methodology while developing these software have become crucial to accomplish the project goal. Agile approach is a methodology which have been introduced as an effective approach for developing software to increase productivity and efficacy of software development process compare to traditional methodologies. The rapid deployment of solutions, early and continuous delivery of valuable product to the customers, resource utilization, rapid issue detection, customer focus, effective collaboration and communication, adapting changes and flexibility are the key principles of Agile. Meeting the deliverables of the project without compromising its scope, quality and timeline within a limited budget is a key to success. Use of effective project management methodology and identification of critical success factors to achieve project success is essential to understand for any organization whether it is software or non-software.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate a survey on critical success factor for the maintenance of local public buildings and how reported score values and factor rankings depend on characteristics (contingencies) of the local governments that participated. Design/methodology/approach The authors use data from a large-scale survey of Norwegian local governments that covered 66 per cent of all local governments and 80 per cent of the population. The authors combine these data with contingent information from public registers on demographics, fiscal, political and geographical characteristics. The authors run regressions to determine whether contingencies affect survey results. They further study how score values vary with a key contingent factor. Findings The main result of this paper is that the reported importance of critical success factors is contingent on local government population levels. A comparison of importance rankings based on population quartiles shows that ranking orders change, both between quartiles and from the overall ranking, and that certain factors show systematic changes. Further, the authors find that when controlling for sampling error, groups of factors should be considered as equally important. This result holds both for the full sample ranking and for rankings within population quartiles. Originality/value The results of this paper have implications for all survey-based investigations of critical success factors where contingent information on respondents are available. Contingencies need to be taken into consideration, both when assessing rankings according to some criteria and when comparing actual score values.

In Selangor, zakat assistance to the new converts begins from the first day they become Muslims. The new Muslim would be immediately helped with MYR 500.00 monthly allowance for five years until they manage to act in accordance with Allah’s orders and to perform worshipping (Mukallaf). The main problem statement is, how the effectiveness of zakat distribution among muallaf was?. Thus, this article presents structural equation models for effectiveness of zakat distribution among muallaf in Selangor. The formation of the models consists of the condition of the muallaf and success factors as well as the income before and after zakat distribution towards the muallaf, which are the observed variable. This specification will able to examine the predictors of differences between income without zakat and income with zakat. The Muallaf really need and seek for help from the Muslim especially in Muslim country in terms of economic strength and support. Thus, developmental programs are crucial in order to support them physically and mentally. An effective program can be an instrument to equip them with negative perception that they received after becoming a Muslim. The main objective of this article is to explore the effectiveness of muallaf development programs organized in Selangor, this article uses the crosstabs methods based on several critical success factors. The method been use in this research is mix method by conducted through in-depth interviews with selected Muallaf from a variety of cultural backgrounds, living in the area of Selangor, Malaysia. Then the next phase, this article conducted set of survey questionnaires among 80 respondents to confirm the findings. The respondents were randomly selected from Selangor Zakat Centre (SZC) zakat recipient’s list from the New Converts category for nine districts of Selangor in 2013. The main finding of this article indicates that Muallaf who are receiving zakat assistant are able to manage successfully in their economics life and manage to assist their non-Muslims family for solving family problem as a result of conversion to Islam as well as helping them out from poverty.

This paper investigates critical success factors and strategy of knowledge management within organization that made of multi generation workforce. It is widely understood that tensions and conflicts are inevitable if employees from every generational cohort fail to understand and accept the unique characteristics of each group. As the race to gain competitive advantage between businesses growing intensely from time to time, there is a need emerging for a strong guidance in developing a correct knowledge management strategy in respect to multi-generation work force phenomenon. By incorporating knowledge management critical success factor and strategy and also generational differences obtained from literature review, we design models that can be used to choose appropriate knowledge management strategy in a multi generational workforce organization. Using these models, which were validated using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), it is found that the appropriate knowledge management strategy for multi generation work force organization is external personalization.



Knowledge management is now becoming the driving force for the success of any business. This paper presents the framework for understanding the critical success factor that impact the execution of knowledge management in a bank. We had entered the era where future will depend on the creation, acquisition, integration and application of knowledge at right time to innovate and take competitive edge. Knowledge can be used as asset, resource or strategy. The motivation of this study is to identify the impact of critical success factors on knowledge management process in Indian nationalised banks. The construct identified as critical success factors such as information technologies, leadership in knowledge management, knowledge management culture, and measurement of knowledge management were tested using structural equation model. 236 response were collected from the respondent employed in Indian nationalised bank in Gorakhpur with the help of questionnaire as a data gathering instrument. The finding of the study reveals that all the critical success factors used in the proposed model significantly influence the knowledge management process. Leadership in knowledge management is identified as most important predictor among the critical success factor.

The article elaborates upon a successful model of postgraduate studies on lean manufacturing. The subject of the research was nine editions of the Kaizen Academy postgraduate studies organized by the Warsaw University of Technology and the Kaizen Institute in the years 2009–2018, that still enjoys interest in the market. A detailed qualitative analysis of this case, followed by a comparative analysis with other post-graduate programs of this type on the national, European, and global level should make it possible to find what is necessary to launch and actively operate for a long time in the (considerably competitive) market of qualification raising programs related to Lean Management (critical success factors). The study has also identified the differences between a successful program, analyzed in detail, and other available programs described in the literature and on the Internet. This has been achieved through a structured analysis of thirty-nine postgraduate programs identified by querying scientific databases and the Google Internet search engine. Best practices and models of postgraduate education on Lean Management have been discussed, and the thirty-nine programs comprising the identified sample have been compared. Considering the very general level of the data available in terms of the organization of postgraduate programs, it has also been assessed if they follow constructivism and experiential learning paradigms. This has been achieved by including the industrial days/visit indicator in the comparison. Given its high value, it has been identified as a success factor of the postgraduate curriculum on Lean Management.

This research paper shows a framework to conduct an empirical study in Malaysian automotive industry in order to improve their performance. There are factors which are effective factors in improving performance of Malaysian automotive companies namely top management support, cross functional teamwork, new product development (NPD) process, NPD strategies, and market research activities. The critical success factor of NPD is playing a fundamental role in determining the performance in Malaysian automotive companies. In this research study, a framework has been developed that includes critical success factors of NPD and project achievement to study their influence on the performance of Malaysian automotive companies. It is hoped that this paper can provide an academic source for both academicians and managers due to investigate the relationship between critical success factors of total NPD, project achievement and company performance in a systematic manner to increase successful rate of NPD progress.

This research aims at investigating the interrelationships between critical success factors (CSFs) in municipal solid waste management (MSWM) projects taken up in public–private partnership (PPP) mode in India and studies the extent to which they can affect project success. A three-step procedure was followed to identify the CSFs in MSWM. A conceptual structural equation model (SEM) was developed using cluster groupings of the identified CSFs to show their interrelationships. Data collection from the public sector and private sector waste management managers was done through a questionnaire survey. The respondents’ data were analysed in analysis of moment structures (AMOS) using structural equation modelling. The SEM analysis of the respondents’ data gives the most exemplary fitting measurement model with the 17 CSFs taken as components of five latent variables: external environment, financial characteristics, project planning and procurement, project operation and management and project stakeholders. The model shows the relationships between the constructs of CSFs for project success. This study contributes to current ideas by empirically identifying the interrelationships between the MSWM CSFs, which can help waste management professionals handle the CSFs rationally. Furthermore, the study shows that all the groups have a direct and positive impact on project success. The findings may only portray the opinion of solid waste management managers in India.
