This study investigates multimodal transport system evolution law with the consideration of synergetic theory. Compared with previous studies, this paper focuses on understanding influencing factors of system collaborative development. In particular, we have applied a multimodal system order parameter model to obtain the order parameter. Based on order parameters, the coevolution equations of the multimodal transport system are constructed with consideration of cooperation and competitive relationship between the subsystems. We set out the multimodal system followed the coevolution law of the freight system and dominated by the combined effects of order parameter line length and freight density. The results show that the coordination effects between railway, road, and water subsystems are stronger than aviation subsystem; the railway system is the short plank of the system. Some functional implications from this study are also discussed. Finally the results indicate that expansion of railway system capacity and mutual cooperation within the subsystems are required to reach an optimal multimodal transport system.

A dynamic network loading (DNL) model using a mesoscopic approach is proposed to simulate a multimodal transport network considering en-route change of the transport modes. The classic mesoscopic approach, where packets of users belonging to the same mode move following a path, is modified to take into account multiple modes interacting with each other, simultaneously and on the same multimodal network. In particular, to simulate modal change, functional aspects of multimodal arcs have been developed; those arcs are properly located on the network where modal change occurs and users are packed (or unpacked) in a new modal resource that moves up to destination or to another multimodal arc. A test on a simple network reproducing a real situation is performed in order to show model peculiarities; some indicators, used to describe performances of the considered transport system, are shown.

Vulnerability in the Railway system is, studied not only from the perspective of network topology characteristic but also as the problem of the level of service relative to structure, nature damage and traffic attribute. Also, emphasis is put on the function of the system rather than the physical network itself, although some of non-serviceability in the railway network is indeed caused by physical failures. The Vulnerability of railway network is thus a decisive factor not only in terms of connectivity, and serviceability, but also in terms of the transport system performance under dynamic process-traffic which should be acknowledged as an integral element within vulnerability assessment. The paper aims at investigating the most typical factors that affect the vulnerability. The vulnerability analysis must consider each factor separately, and, at the same time, as a whole. A method to measure the vulnerability is proposed. Furthermore, this assessment method is used to analyze the Chinese Railway Network (CRN).

In the article, the ideas for the development of unmanned freight vehicles and the construction of high-speed railways are transformed into an innovative resource-efficient and high-tech solution — the creation of an Intelligent Multimodal Transport System of Russia, and the development of projects and structures for unmanned vehicle freight traffic — into the “Intelligent Container Chain” project. The proposals put forward are based on an analysis of the potential of the Russian railways and its implications for the spatial development of the Russian Federation. The trends in the development of unmanned vehicles are analyzed and it is concluded that its implementation in Russia will require the construction of specialized road, energy and digital infrastructure with the appropriate allocation of land allocation and supply of energy, communications and other technological communications. The need to search for new scientific, technological and organizational solutions is shown to achieve synergy between the demand for container road transport and the infrastructural and technological capabilities available in the railway transport system. As such a decision, the expediency of developing a new Intelligent Multimodal Transport System under the auspices of the Russian Railways was substantiated. Priority directions for the development of this system, as well as technical and investment solutions and scientific and technological tasks necessary for its implementation, have been determined. At the same time, questions have been formulated that require scientific study. The advantages of the proposed system for increasing the efficiency of using the transport space and developing a breakthrough competitive infrastructure business of the Russian Railways are disclosed. The prospect of the formation on this basis of unique high-tech groundwork is shown, which makes it possible to realize the potential of Russian science and the transport complex and has a high export potential.

The article deals with the main factors influencing the formation and development of the multimodal transport system of Ukraine in modern conditions. The object of the research is the process of formation of the domestic multimodal transport system. The purpose of the work is to determine the necessary measures for the formation of the multimodal transport system of Ukraine. In Ukraine, multimodal transportation is at the initial stage of development. Among the main factors hindering the formation and development of multimodal transport systems in Ukraine, is the imperfection of regulatory legal regulation of multimodal transport issues; absence of own environmentally friendly rolling stock of different types of transport, especially on road transport, which carries out transportation on long distances; imbalance between levels of capacity of objects of multimodal transport infrastructure and volumes of cargo flows; high risks of multimodal carriers at significant distances with two or more modes of transport; political situation in Ukraine; information provision of all parts of the multimodal logistics chain, etc. To solve these problems, measures have been proposed that will allow the formation and development of the multimodal transport system of Ukraine. The results of the work can be applied for the formation of a national multimodal transport system. Foreseeable assumptions about the development of the research object - the study of the components of the multimodal transport system. The article presents the problems of integration solutions in mass transport. This topic is based on the connections between Słupsk and Ustka, which is linked by a mutual cooperation agreement. Both towns form a dobule-city area, which aims to conduct a common regional policy. The aim of this article is to demonstrate the legitimacy of integrating the mass transport system operating in this area. The task of integration processes on the public transport market is to provide the inhabitants of a region with a reliable transport system, streamlining the movement by a transparent tariff, adjusting the network of connections to the demand and shortening the travel time. It is necessary to construct a transport offer in such a way as to promote the attractiveness of public transport, in particular against the background of individual motorisation. The premise for building an integrated transport system should be all postulates of inhabitants of a region. The results of the research project carried out prove that the issue of integrating public transport in this area is still valid. Their comparison with the proposed integration assumptions indicates that these solutions are an opportunity to improve its functioning. Implementation of the assumptions linking urban transport in Słupsk with mass transport in the Słupsk-Ustka corridor would contribute to strengthening the cooperation of both cities and improving their tourist attractiveness. However, it requires proper cooperation of local governments, taking into account all the travel postulates of the inhabitants of the region. The administrative boundaries can not constitute barriers to smooth movement between these cities.

The article considers some directions of creation and development of the intelligent transport system of the Northern Sea Route (NSR). The significance of the NSR in the framework of the integrated development of the territory of the Russian Federation is shown, its structure is given. Currently, the NSR functions as an internal transport corridor. One of the disadvantages of the NSR is the small depth of the sea channel, which will require appropriate work or route changes. The influence of changes in weather and climatic conditions in the Arctic on the transport system of the NSR is noted. The advantages of using the NSR as an international transit transport corridor in comparison with the southern route through the Suez Canal are shown. The directions of the development of the Northern Sea Route as a transport system based on the digital improvement of infrastructure, navigation, energy, information and telecommunications support, as well as the intellectualization of production processes based on unmanned multimodal transport are listed. It is argued that the introduction of digital technologies on the NSR will turn it into one of the most high-tech and efficient transport corridors in the world.
