Whether it’s mobile phones or autonomous cars or telemedicine, a well-functioning robust 5G ecosystem will require licensing executives to have a deep understanding of the need for timely licensing to support technology development and adoption. It is important that the parties to patent licensing agreements understand that value doesn’t depend on the numerosity of patent portfolios, but on use value. The ecosystem is impaired when parties to licensing transactions are recalcitrant and advance bogus indicia of value. The 5G stakes are sufficiently high that top management oversight is likely required.

The risk associated with information technology is quite big especially when it comes to using, own, operate, and select information technology systems for an organization. The risk associated with information technology is possibly termed as a business risk. It includes IT-related prospects that may affect businesses. This can be achieved with both a questionable relapse and scale which threatens the alignment of key objectives and goals. The study is based both on empirical studies and on true case analysis. The study found that top management understands the essential part of technology development in organizations that are infamous for corporate viability and efficiency because of the use of IT hardware and computer software.

In this introduction, we argue for an expanded focus in mobile media and communication studies (MMCS) that accounts for the many types of mobile media that affect our lives. We begin by pointing out that mobile phone/smartphone research has dominated MMCS as a field. That focus makes sense, but it runs the risk of MMCS essentially turning into “smartphone studies,” which we argue would limit our impact. To make that case, we identify a few examples of the types of oft-ignored technologies that could add to the depth and breadth of MMCS research (e.g., RFID [radio frequency identification] tags, the Walkman, barcodes). We then summarize the articles in this special issue to categorize the breadth of this research, which ranges from analyses of mobile fans to autonomous cars to mobile infrastructure.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of strategic alliances on firm performance and the moderating effect of firm size in retail firms in Nairobi County in Kenya. Design/methodology/approach – Resource Dependency Theory was used to guide the study. The study adopted explanatory research design. Questionnaires were used to collect data from sample of 216 respondents through stratified and simple random sampling technique. The study used inferential statistics to test hypotheses. Findings – Study findings indicated that joint marketing alliances, procurement-supplier alliances, joint manufacturing alliances and technology development alliances have significant and positive effect on firm performance. Based on the findings, creating a joint marketing, procurement-supplier, joint manufacturing and technology development alliances mostly enhance firm performance. Research limitations/implications – The study considered only one county out of 47, although this county hosts the capital city, where most of the firms considered are located. It therefore is representative of all counties and firms considered in this study. It also considered top management staff and thus may have an effect since the lower cadre staff were not considered. However, most of the required information was expected from top management since these are the ones who make decisions, and hence most affected by strategic alliances. Practical implications – This study has practical implication on firm performance because it has established that strategic alliance improves on overall firm performance. This manifests itself in terms of improve productivity, production efficiency and profitability. It also helps in the availability of products to the end users. Social implications – Through improved productivity, efficiency and profitability, this translates to improved terms of payment of staff and hence improved quality of lives of their families and communities within which they live. It also enables the firms to participate more in corporate social responsibility projects which in turn improves the standard of living of the communities around them. Originality/value – The study has provided an empirical insight on the importance of strategic alliance on firm performance. This is the first study done in the Kenyan context concerning strategic alliances formed by firms to improve on their performance especially on retail firms.

The article is devoted to the study of the main methods of evaluating the effectiveness of activities in the field of public relations. The paper indicates the main features that characterize modern PR technologies: innovation, manufacturability, consistency, the guarantee of certain practical results, and so on. Public relations are currently one of the fastest-growing components of the marketing communications complex, which is aimed at forming and strengthening a positive image of the company in the eyes of public groups. The study ascertains that to calculate the effect of PR campaigns and return on investment (ROI), it is necessary to use the construction of special multicomponent correlation models, where media analytical indicators can be correlated with certain financial results. The author considers the metric of the use value norm used to assess the current level and effectiveness of the company’s communication policy, taking into account the complex of various PR activities. The study gives an algorithm for finding an effective commercial offer in the B2B segment. The paper creates a formula that allows calculating the socio-economic efficiency of a PR company. In conclusion of the article, the author presents groups of indicators that should be paid attention to by the company’s top management to evaluate conducted PR campaign.
