In this text, Bataille clarifies his idea of the ‘excluded part’, i.e. that which is left behind by science. Bataille seeks to create an approach that would challenge the abstracted method of science, which presents the world as idealized and homogeneous. The aim of Bataille’s ‘science of the heterogeneous’ is to shed light on the unproductive expenditure of life, which moves between the sacred and the unclean. In pursuing this, he debunks the common idea that what is profane is already impure and vice versa. This text is notable for the new vocabulary that Bataille introduces in order to define heterology. Terms like heterodoxy, agiology and scatology rehabilitate the ideas of the unclean and the profane by structuring them in a new discourse, in which the excluded part is taken as the foundation for the new science of the impossible. Finally, the text shows how Bataille articulates this new science through providing examples largely from the study of religion and psychoanalysis.

Orthopaedics has been left behind in the worldwide drive towards diversity and inclusion. In the UK, only 7% of orthopaedic consultants are female. There is growing evidence that diversity increases innovation as well as patient outcomes. This paper has reviewed the literature to identify some of the common issues affecting female surgeons in orthopaedics, and ways in which we can address them: there is a wealth of evidence documenting the differences in the journey of men and women towards a consultant role. We also look at lessons learned from research in the business sector and the military. The ‘Hidden Curriculum’ is out of date and needs to enter the 21st century: microaggressions in the workplace must be challenged; we need to consider more flexible training options and support trainees who wish to become pregnant; mentors, both male and female, are imperative to provide support for trainees. The world has changed, and we need to consider how we can improve diversity to stay relevant and effective. Cite this article: Bone Jt Open 2021;2-10:893–899.

The main misconception regarding the interaction between quasiparticles stems from the assertion that the interaction energy between two quasiparticles is exactly identical to that of the renormalized interaction between two particles due to interparticle interaction in the Fermi system. If the main concept regarding the definition of quasiparticle as a weakly excited state of the Fermi system with conservation of charge and spin is paramount (except for the charge and spin separation models), the concept of the interaction between quasiparticles is very different from the assumption in the common sense. In this paper, we will prove a general theorem that the interaction between two quasiparticles is very much different from the renormalized interaction between two particles. The major difference lies in two places: the interaction between two quasiparticles is just negative to the renormalized interaction between two particles, and the interaction energy between the two particles is proportional to the product of two Fermi liquid renormalization factors. The result shed light on the reinterpretation of Cooper's pairing without invoking electron-photon interaction.

Active Russian proverbs of the thematic group “Destiny” and their Serbian proverbial equivalents (in comparison with the Chinese language). The article is devoted to the comparison of proverbs in three languages (Russian, Serbian and Chinese) based on the multilingual dictionary of M. Yu. Kotova “Russian-Slavic dictionary of proverbs with English equivalents.” As a result of this analysis, the linguistic pictures of the world of the three nations are compared. The object of the research is the proverb as a linguocultural phenomenon, the subject is proverbs about fate in the Russian, Serbian and Chinese languages. The study reveals the common features of Russian, Serbian and Chinese proverbs about fate (thematic group “Destiny”), and also points out the differences. The work provides a definition of a proverb considered as the object of research in three languages; compares trilingual proverbs about fate in parallels, and also explores full proverbial parallels, proverbial parallels with another internal form (analogs) and lacunae. Keywords: proverb, paremiology, thematic group, destiny, Russian, Serbian, Chinese

The article deals with etymological versions of lacuna in English and its Ukrainian лакуна counterpart. It has become terminologically important in the process of functioning and has become the basic term for the new science of lacunology. It is revealed that the lexeme of lacuna / лакуна was borrowed into English and Ukrainian from Latin, but at the same time it should be considered as a result of the semantic development of IE. *laku, in particular, of its primary definitions as “reservoir”, “dried lake”, “hole”, “void” and others Etymological nests of derivatives related to the words lacuna / лакуна have been constructed to demonstrate their genetic relationship for the common IE. root *laku / *laqü-, with the subsequent transition to the Proto-German *lögr and the Proto-Slavic – *loky. It is established that by semantic shift of the semantic chain “water”, “lake”, “pit”, “hole” in the original semantic structure of these words an archisema ‘absence’ was formed through a dichotomy повний [з водою] :: порожний [без води]. The component analysis of differential and integral family connections of the archiseme of ‘absence’ in modern naive pictures of the world is made. Based on them their further terminologisation in scientific pictures of the world have been recorded. It is proved that in the scientific pictures of the world these semes have lost their original topographic value (reservoirs and their devastated state) and have been transformed into seven ‘pass’, ‘missing element’, ‘missing form’, ‘gap’. The terms “lake”, “pit”, “swamp” and “sea” are no longer associated with the word lacuna / лакуна. Developing its original meanings and acquiring new differential families associated with the archiseme of ‘absence’ and new synonyms, the notion of lacuna / лакуна has become a term in philosophy, mathematics, medicine and linguistics.

Chapter 7 focuses on Fénelon’s concept of pure love and its relationship to his political philosophy. In so doing, it contests the common claim that Fénelon sought to realize pure love in political practice. In contrast, it argues that his political philosophy is in fact animated by a deep awareness of the gap that separates the world of human glory from the world of divine glory, the earthly city from the heavenly city. To this end it proceeds in three parts. The first part examines his definition of pure love, and the degree to which this definition comports with the categories of his political thought. The next section examines Fénelon’s understanding of the life of pure love, and how it compares to the lives led by political rulers and philosophers. The final section offers a brief consideration of Fénelon’s own life seen through the lens of pure love.

Even though countries from all over the world are modifying their national educational curriculum in order to include computational thinking skills, there is not an agreement in the definition of this ability. This is partly caused by the myriad of definitions that has been proposed by the scholar community. In fact,  there are multiple examples in educational scenarios in which coding and even robotics are considered as synonymous of computational thinking. This paper presents a text network analysis of the main definitions of this skill that have been found in the literature, aiming to offer insights on the common characteristics they share and on their relationship with computer programming. As a result, a new definition of computational thinking is proposed, which emerge from the analyzed data.

The article gives an analysis of the views of works of the Ukrainian and foreign scientists in the field of some victimological theories, in particular — definition «victim of a crime». Attention applies on the special value of provocative behavior of the victim in a case of commission of some crimes. Attention is drawn to the fact that provocative behavior is not only important for conducting a criminological analysis of a crime victim, but for qualification of some crimes too (for example — articles no. 118 and no. 124 of the criminal code of Ukraine). To achieve the objectives of the article, studies of criminologists were analyzed. Researches of scientists, who considered the problem of defining a «victim of crime» in terms of psychology, sociology, etc. were also analyzed. It has been concluded that criminological victimology (as an integral part of criminology) is a relatively new science. This situation is explained by the lack of interest of researchers in concepts of «victim mentality», «victimisation», «victim of a crime» till to the late 1940s 20th century. The conclusion was made about regularities between humanistic trends in the world and formation of the concept of "victim of crime" in the middle of the twentieth century. The conclusions are based on the study of the importance of victimological teaching in modern criminology science. Most of them are used by modern criminology scientists’ definitions of «victim of a crime». Attention is drawn to the ambiguity of understanding definition «victim of a crime». This is because some scientists suggest identifying «victim of a crime» with a «person, who suffered from the crime». In our opinion, his understanding is wrong. Also it is specified, that «victim of a crime» can be used in a narrow sense (as the person who is directly caused moral, physical or property damage) and in a broad sense (representative of a certain nation, race, religious trend, social group, concerning which a crime directly was not committed, but who cannot feel safe because of spread of these crimes). Keywords: victim mentality, victimisation, victim of a crime, victimological theories.

Relevance: Melanoma is one of the most aggressive and unpredictable tumors. Melanoma most often affects the skin. Over the past 50 years, the incidence of melanoma in the world has been overgrowing, with the highest rates among fair-skinned people and in the regions with lower latitude. The incidence is higher among older adults but is also one of the common forms of cancer among young people. Melanoma incidence and mortality depend on gender, age, ethnicity, as well as on the region of residence. The purpose of the study was to assess the skin melanoma epidemiology in the world and Kazakhstan in 2018. Results: Melanoma incidence was growing throughout the world during the past decades, with an annual incidence of 4-6%. Melanoma incidence is expected to reach 450,000 cases per year in the next two decades. Kazakhstan has experienced an increase in melanoma incidence by 63% over the past ten years. Females made 61% of cases. The incidence remained high in the East Kazakhstan region and the cities of Almaty and Karaganda. High mortality was registered in North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, and Pavlodar regions, and the city of Almaty. Since 2009, the five-year survival with melanoma in the Republic of Kazakhstan has decreased by 2.2%. Conclusion: Melanoma morbidity and mortality is growing worldwide. Even though its incidence is below one-tenths of other types of skin cancer, the ability of melanoma to quickly metastasize and affect young adults makes this disease as a serious social problem. It is necessary to improve the methods of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of melanoma aimed at identifying individuals at high risk of tumor development and optimize the methods of its early diagnostics and definition of the risk of metastasis.

The evolution of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) from price support to payments that are more decoupled from production is part of a broader international context in which other OECD countries have also reformed in a similar direction. This paper explains the meaning of «decoupling» from the legal perspective of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and from a more empirical approach as the one adopted by the OECD work on decoupling. The main arguments in favour of decoupling —both from efficiency and distribution considerations— are discussed and the scope of the reforms in different OECD countries is analyzed. Finally it is argued that a good definition of the objectives is needed in order to design the most appropriate policies.
