This paper aims to analyze how tourist information generated by market research drives destination management and marketing organizations’ promotional efforts, expanding research about tourist information and the destination management and marketing organization's (DMMO) role. The focus is on describing the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau's (GMCVB) marketing management that defines Miami/FL as a tourist destination. In this descriptive case study, the authors conducted bibliographic and documentary research and semi-structured interviews with the GMCVB. The results demonstrate the influence of information on the GMCVB's marketing management through four topics: Miami's image, the GMCVB's corporate structure, some GMCVB's initiatives, and the marketing campaigns. In conclusion, the study suggests that data collection through market research should be destination management and marketing organizations’ primary concern since information is the asset that will guide all their functions, strategies, and activities.

Terrorist incidents at tourist destinations create several negative impacts. Many studies have focused on the intent of the tourists to visit a place affected by terrorism. However, there are no studies gauging the perceptions of travel agencies and tour operators. In this regard, this particular study intends to understand the detrimental effects of terrorism on various travel agencies and tour operators operating in Kashmir in India, which also form a part of MSMEs. Case study and semi-structured interviews have been used. The findings clearly illustrate that terrorism does have detrimental effects on a tourist destination and, in turn, deleterious effects on the travel agencies and tour operators operating in the region. It is also evident that there are political instabilities and lack of promotion and marketing of the destination. It is hoped that the political stability and proper promotion will lead to positive destination image and better management of the destination.

Polyglots are extraordinary people in terms of language ability. Therefore, it is interesting to academically explore their motivations for learning several languages. This research is novel compared to previous studies because scant extant research exists of polyglots’ motivation for learning several languages. To this end, researchers collected data from semi structured interviews obtained from five informants. The method that we used was a descriptive case study. Findings showed that the polyglots’ motivation for learning multiple foreign languages were (a) pleasure, (b) social intercourse, (c) professional purposes, and (d) academic purposes. Mostly, the previous research revealed that motivation for people learning foreign languages were for social interaction, professional reasons, and academic purposes. Meanwhile, the motivation of polyglots for learning many languages besides those three motivations was for pleasure. This is the key point behind their commitment to sustainable multiple language learning.

Background: There has been little research on the experiences of healthcare workers (HCWs) with deaf/hearing impaired (HI) clients. Anecdotal evidence suggests that HCWs experience challenges, but little is reported on how they manage these challenges. Interactions with and care of deaf/Deaf and HI patients by clinicians has yielded several questions around communication and assessment strategies, as well as comparative quality of health care for deaf/Deaf and HI clients. This research was intended to further the understanding and knowledge of these aspects of health care of deaf/Deaf and HI clients. Methods: The study design is a qualitative, descriptive case study. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with individual HCWs and focus-group discussions with groups of participants. Participants were invited staff members at Retreat Community Health Centre (RCHC) in Cape Town. Convenience sampling was used to select participants, and interviews were conducted until saturation was reached. Data were studied and analysed using the phenomenological method. Results: HCWs reported that they serve very few Deaf or HI clients. However, themes of language barriers, resilience, preconceptions, improvisation and innovation, interpreters and recommendations emerged. Difficulties in communication were acknowledged, but HCWs insisted that these barriers are not insurmountable.Discussion and conclusion: A few preconceptions and gaps in knowledge and awareness were revealed. HCWs also tended to rely on escorts and other interpreters. The dominant recommendations are that HCWs should receive training in sign language (SL) and/or that SL interpreters be available at facilities. Despite using words and phrases such as ‘frustrating’ and ‘more effort’, participants’ concluding remarks reiterate that their experiences are positive, suggesting a notable resilience.

This study purports to explore differences and similarities between literature instructors’ beliefs and actual practices of integrating Web applications in literature courses in Ha'il University. This study was designed as a descriptive case-study triangulating several data collection methods such as semi-structured interviews and observation. The data of the interviews and observation were analysed in themes. The results showed that a majority of instructors’ beliefs aligned well with their practices about integrating Web applications with teaching literature while one participant’s beliefs conflicted with her teaching practices. Result also supported the argument that instructor belief plays an important role in instructional decision making in the teaching practice while sometimes differed with their classroom practice. Results also revealed that the actual Web applications usage found in the four cases demonstrated positive result for the integration of Web applications. This provides evidence to support previous research results about the benefits that Web applications have in possibly connecting informal learning to the formal learning environment. On the other hand, although four individual instructors’ actual use of Web applications differed from case to case, they all believed that there were many benefits as well as challenges when integrating Web applications in literature courses. Furthermore, the results demonstrated an increasing usage trend among the four individual participants based on the estimated percentage of Web applications usage in their literature courses. Nonetheless, four participants in this study seemed to only bring out a few aspects of Web applications’ potential. To make the best of Web applications, more research is needed in identifying best practices of various Web applications in teaching literature and explaining complicated instructors' beliefs about the effectiveness of Web applications in teaching literature.

In recent years, the society has increased the pressure on institutions to improve their social and environmental efforts, in addition to economic considerations in decision-making and internal behavior. This study analyzes the applicability of socio-environmental management tools in the health care sector through the partial application of the Environmental Management Accounting System called SICOGEA – Generation 3. This is an investigative and descriptive case study conducted at the Vision Institute (São Paulo Institute of Studies and Research in Ophthalmology, Brazil), where information was collected through semi-structured interviews. The results demonstrated that the studied institution has a level of general sustainability of 22.4%, which is considered “Weak.” This means that although it conducts certain initiatives for environmental management, the institution may be causing damage to the environment.
