Human–robot collaboration is a key factor for the development of factories of the future, a space in which humans and robots can work and carry out tasks together. Safety is one of the most critical aspects in this collaborative human–robot paradigm. This article describes the experiments done and results achieved by the authors in the context of the FourByThree project, aiming to measure the trust of workers on fenceless human–robot collaboration in industrial robotic applications as well as to gauge the acceptance of different interaction mechanisms between robots and human beings.

This article presents a semantic approach for multimodal interaction between humans and industrial robots to enhance the dependability and naturalness of the collaboration between them in real industrial settings. The fusion of several interaction mechanisms is particularly relevant in industrial applications in which adverse environmental conditions might affect the performance of vision-based interaction (e.g. poor or changing lighting) or voice-based interaction (e.g. environmental noise). Our approach relies on the recognition of speech and gestures for the processing of requests, dealing with information that can potentially be contradictory or complementary. For disambiguation, it uses semantic technologies that describe the robot characteristics and capabilities as well as the context of the scenario. Although the proposed approach is generic and applicable in different scenarios, this article explains in detail how it has been implemented in two real industrial cases in which a robot and a worker collaborate in assembly and deburring operations.

To displace a character in time is to depict a character who becomes acutely conscious of his or her status as other, as she or he strives to comprehend and interact with a culture whose mentality is both familiar and different in obvious and subtle ways. Two main types of time travel pose a philosophical distinction between visiting the past with knowledge of the future and trying to inhabit the future with past cultural knowledge, but in either case the unpredictable impact a time traveller may have on another society is always a prominent theme. At the core of Japanese time travel narratives is a contrast between self-interested and eudaimonic life styles as these are reflected by the time traveller's activities. Eudaimonia is a ‘flourishing life’, a life focused on what is valuable for human beings and the grounding of that value in altruistic concern for others. In a study of multimodal narratives belonging to two sets – adaptations of Tsutsui Yasutaka's young adult novella The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Yamazaki Mari's manga series Thermae Romae – this article examines how time travel narratives in anime and live action film affirm that eudaimonic living is always a core value to be nurtured.

Transhumanism is one of the main “ideologies of the future” that has emerged in recent decades. Its program for the enhancement of the human species during this century pursues the ultimate goal of immortality, through the creation of human brain emulations. Therefore, transhumanism offers its fol- lowers an explicit eschatology, a vision of the ultimate future of our civilization that in some cases coincides with the ultimate future of the universe, as in Frank Tipler’s Omega Point theory. The essay aims to analyze the points of comparison and opposition between transhumanist and Christian eschatologies, in particular considering the “incarnationist” view of Parousia. After an introduction concern- ing the problems posed by new scientific and cosmological theories to traditional Christian eschatology, causing the debate between “incarnationists” and “escha- tologists,” the article analyzes the transhumanist idea of mind-uploading through the possibility of making emulations of the human brain and perfect simulations of the reality we live in. In the last section the problems raised by these theories are analyzed from the point of Christian theology, in particular the proposal of a transhuman species through the emulation of the body and mind of human beings. The possibility of a transhumanist eschatology in line with the incarnationist view of Parousia is refused.

The stories in Qur'an are Allah’s decrees which convey more beau-tiful values beyond any religious text ever written. It is the holiest scripture and is written  in a wonderful, understandable, and attract-ive language humbly conveying a vast amount of information about life and events that happened in the past. It’s aim is to be an object of reflection for human beings living in this age and the future. Even more so, the stories in Al-Qur'an also entail an educative function providing learning materials,  and teaching methods, regarding the transformative power of Islam and the internalization of true religious values.

In the paper importance is given to the organization of the supply chain for a more efficient delivery of goods to city centers. Logistics activities are closely related because they depend on each other. The ultimate goal is to bring the product/goods to the end customer/consumer as soon as possible, on time, at the lowest cost, in perfect condition and in the appropriate quantity. The mutual coordination and cooperation of all participants in the supply chain can result in a satisfied end-user/customer. The development of information – telecommunication technologies – will greatly affect the future development and efficiency of the supply chain by finding new transport solutions that would mostly affect city centers. The paper mostly emphasizes the context of the delivery conditions in Rijeka’s city center with a proposal for the location of a future centralized distribution center.

During the design processing of the future exploratory products, requirements from users seems to be a key factor for products availability achievement. As a practical user modeling method, Persona may accomplish the potential needs data mining effectively based on the analyzing of users. This review mainly focused on how to apply the persona in the exploratory products investigation to acquire useful information from the products design. The method to establish persona and the operating rules were also discussed in this article. The concept of the mobile internet device in future was used as an case to demonstrate the persona mentioned above.

Die Transformation in die „intelligente“ und vernetzte Fabrik der Zukunft folgt einem schrittweise iterativ ablaufenden Prozess. Besonderer Wert ist dabei auf die schnelle Realisierung von Prototypen und einzelnen Maßnahmen zu legen, um rasch Ergebnisse zu erzielen. Gefördert wird mit diesem Vorgehen nicht zuletzt auch das Verständnis und die Partizipationsbereitschaft der beteiligten Mitarbeiter, die somit früher in konkrete Entwicklungen eingebunden werden und diese mitgestalten können. Das Projekt „MetamoFAB“ hat Methoden sowie Hilfsmittel entwickelt, die beim Planen und Umsetzen der Transformation unterstützen. Diese wurden zudem exemplarisch in Fallbeispielen erprobt.   The transformation towards intelligent and interconnected Factories of the future follows a stepwise, iterative approach. For quickly achieving results, a fast realization of haptic prototypes is crucial. By this, not at least understanding and willingness for participation of involved employees is raised, including them early phases of the transformation. The project MetamoFAB has developed methods and tools supporting this transformation process during planning and implementation. The applicability has been demonstrated exemplarily in use cases.
