Pu-er ripe tea is a special microbial post-fermented tea made from Pu-er raw tea, a kind of green tea produced from the leaves of Camellia sinensis var. assamica. It is one of the most consumed teas in the past two decades in China, due to its special flavor, taste, and beneficial effects. This work aimed to obtain diverse catechin structures from Pu-er ripe tea, which led to the isolation of four new phenylpropanoid-substituted flavan-3-ols, puerins C-F (1-4), together with four known flavan-3-ols, (+)-catechin (5), (-)-epicatechin (6), (±)-gallocatechin (7), and (-)-epigallocatechin (8). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR, mass and CD spectra. Compounds 1-4, which could be formed in the post-fermentative process of Pu-er tea, were isolated for the first time from tea and Theaceae plant.

Green tea ( Camellia sinensis) leaves are known to contain active ingredients such as catechins and caffeine, and are widely useful materials. Recently, green tea flowers also have been in the spotlight. However, little attention has been paid to the tea seeds. In this work, the constituents of green tea seeds and green tea leaves were compared. Caffeine was found in the seeds, whereas catechins (usually obtained from green tea leaves) were not observed. Next, we investigated the constituents of hexane extracts and methanol extracts of green tea seeds. We found that the hexane extracts contained high amounts of oleic glyceride (79.9%) in addition to linoleic glyceride (20%). We confirmed the structures of these glycerides by NMR spectroscopy and by synthesis from a fatty acid and glycerol. The methanol extract was found to contain naringenin glucosides by mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopic analysis.

In this study, for the first time, a novel organic–inorganic nanobio-antimicrobial agent called “nanoflowers” (Nfs) from Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze extracts and its main components were produced and the increase in the antimicrobial activity of Nfs was elucidated.

Abstract During the systematic search of active compounds from endophytic fungi, two new butyrolactones, namely aspernolides L (2) and M (4), together with four known compounds: 1-O-acetylglycerol (1), butyrolactone I (3), butyrolactone VI (5), and (+) alantrypinone (6) were characterized from the EtOAc extract of the endophytic fungus Aspergillus versicolor isolated from the roots of Pulicaria crispa (Asteraceae). Extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D, 2D NMR, and HRESIMS, was used to elucidate their structures. Compounds 1, 5, and 6 are reported for the first time from this fungus.

Four compounds were isolated from the stem bark of Antiaris africana. One of them, a γ-lactone named antialactone (1a), is reported for the first time as a natural product. The structures were determined by comprehensive analyses of their 1D and 2D NMR spectra and EI MS data. The absolute configuration of antialactone acetate (1b) was established by TDDFT CD calculations and comparison with measured CD spectra. The remaining three known compounds were identified, by comparing their spectroscopic data with those reported in the literature, as lichenxanthone, β-sitosterol, and betulinic acid.

A new chlorine-containing glucosyl-fused compound, crassifoside H (1), was isolated from the EtOH extract of the rhizomes of Curculigo glabrescens. The structure was established on the basis of MS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR experiments. In addition, seven known compounds (2 - 8) were isolated and identified by spectroscopic analysis and comparison of their spectral data with those reported previously. All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time. The free radical scavenging activity of the isolated compounds was evaluated by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. Compounds 1 and 2 showed strong radical scavenging activities. The primary structure-activity relationship is also discussed.

Two compounds, apigenin-8- C-β-D-glucopyranoside and 2-(hydroxymethylthio)ethanol, were extracted from the fermentation products of a strain of endophytic fungus, Colletotrichum sp. NTB-2, isolated from the leafstalk of Ginkgo biloba. The structures of the two compounds were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR spectral data. The compounds were obtained from microorganisms for the first time.

Chemical investigation of an acidic methanol extract of the whole plants of D. metel resulted in the isolation of five compounds, including kaempferol 3-O-beta-D-glucosyl(1->2)-beta-D-galactoside 7-O-beta-D-glucoside (1), kaempferol 3-O-beta-glucopyranosyl(1->2)-beta-glucopyranoside-7-O-alpha-rhamnopyranoside (2), pinoresinol O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), (7R,8S,7'S,8'R)-4,9,4',7'-tetrahydroxy-3,3'-dimethoxy-7,9'-epoxylignan-4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (4), and (7S,8R,7'S,8'S)-4,9,4',7'-tetrahydroxy-3,3'-dimethoxy-7,9'-epoxylignan-4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (5). Their structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR and MS spectroscopic analyses as well as comparing with the data reported in the literature. The absolute configurations of compounds 4 and 5 were determined by CD spectra. It is noted that (7R,8S,7'S,8'R)-4,9,4',7'-tetrahydroxy-3,3'-dimethoxy-7,9'-epoxylignan-4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside and (7S,8R,7'S,8'S)-4,9,4',7'-tetrahydroxy-3,3'-dimethoxy-7,9'-epoxylignan-4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside were isolated for the first time from the Datura genus.

The use of medicinal plants is expressive because it’s beneficial effects, however the dosages some times are not adjusted. The study had for objective to investigate the toxicity of the green tea and the protective effect of vitamin C. Had been used 36 mice swiss, distributed in 6 groups (n=6): Control group with 1 ml/kg of saline solution 0.9%; Experimental group 1 with extract of Camellia sinensis in 0,5% concentration; Experimental group 2 with extract of Camellia sinensis in 10% concentration; Experimental group 3 with extract of Camellia sinensis in 0,5% concentration associate with vitamin C in 40mg/mL concentration; Experimental group 4 with extract of Camellia sinensis in 10% concentration associate with vitamin C in 40mg/mL concentration and Experimental group 5 with vitamin C solution in 40mg/mL concentration. The results had been significant for corporal weight and agencies (liver, kidneys, dull and brain) in the group of bigger concentration of green tea and in the groups where vitamin C was associated, allowing itself to suggest a light toxicity in the groups that had received these treatments.

Beneficial effects of green tea (Camellia sinensis, Theaceae) extracts against obesity have been reported; however, the anti-obesity ability of the major components of green tea, polysaccharides, polyphenols and caffeine is not clear.
