Exploring Linkages Between Workplace Spirituality and Occupational Stress Among Indian Police Personnel

The inclusion of spirituality at workplaces has yielded significant advantages for the employees and the organisations. The present study probes the optimistic facet of workplace spirituality (WPS) to identify its linkages with one of the most daunting issues for organisations, occupational stress (OS). Police officers from Himachal Pradesh, a hilly state in Northern India, were approached and responses were collected from 385 participants. The study utilises the three-dimensional WPS measure conceptualised by Milliman et al. (2003) . Sense of community and value alignment was found to be explaining significant variance in occupational stress. The findings demonstrate the importance of embracing WPS as an effective tool for alleviating OS, thereby augmenting the performance and morale and guiding strategy formulation of future human resource development activities.

Excellent human resource development prioritizes organizational performance development elements. Organizational performance in Malaysia’s public sector is a concept that still needs to be explored. To date, improvements to leadership quality in order to enhance employee competence is one of the areas of study that has become the focus of researchers in the field of human resource development. In fact, leadership quality is also influenced by a person’s self-resilience to changes – one such example is police officers’ competence in order to perform their duties well. This study aims to assess the relationship between self-resilience and the leadership qualities of police officers. The study involved the Royal Malaysia Police of the state of Selangor. The study which used a simple randomized quantitative method involved 105 respondents comprised of police officers and other members of the force. Findings of the study indicate highest positive relationships between leadership and competency, resilience and competency, and resilience and leadership, with r values between 0.791 to 0.864. However, the relationship between leadership quality based on education level and length of service (work experience) was not significant. This study shows that there are several elements in human resource development and performance management that can be improved by emphasizing on the leadership aspect in order to improve the competencies of police officers in Malaysia.

Background: The pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for law enforcement agencies. Police officers are often directly or indirectly involved in the pandemic response and have a higher risk of getting the infection. Our study aims to assess on-the-job stress and challenges faced by the police personnel of Bishnupur district, Manipur, and to determine the factors associated with it.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the police personnel from December 2020 to January 2021. Occupational stress was measured using the Operational Police Stress Questionnaire and, a pre-tested questionnaire for coping mechanisms and attitude were used to collect data by interview method. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. 73.2% of them have experienced moderate to high stress and the maximum was found among the Sub-inspectors (Mean score: 3.51±1.20). Stress was mostly due to not having enough time available to spend with friends and family (3.58±2.01), and work overtime (3.27±1.84). Police personnel agreed that there was an increased number of violent confrontations between the public and them while enforcing new regulations and restrictions. The majority of the participants have been accepting the reality of the fact that it has happened and learn to live with it as a coping mechanism.Conclusions: Occupational stress is high among the police personnel of Bishnupur District and it was significantly associated with age, marital status, social stigma, and willingness to take the COVID-19 vaccine. There is a need for holistic support for their job satisfaction.

This paper explores the level of Human Resource Development (HRD), involvement of Human Resource (HR) managers in strategic decisions, sharing HR responsibility and changes of line management roles for HRD programs in publicly traded business corporation of Nepal. Data was collected using structured questionnaire from line management and HR managers of 105 organizations based on unit of analysis that have at least five years of establishment of age, and analyzed. It is observed that the mission statements crafted by most of the organizations at the corporate level do not follow any common trend while formulating HRD strategies. The selection rate of HR managers from internal sources of organizations is fairly larger while appointing HRD managers and the trend of involving HR manager for strategy formulation is increasing. This study contributes to the existing theory of HRD and helps to execute the policies and programs by Nepalese business managers, to accelerate the overall business performance.

Purpose This paper aims to analyze current practices, discuss empowerment from the theoretical perspectives on power in organizations and suggest an empowerment model based on the type of organizational culture and the role of human resource development (HRD). Design/methodology/approach By reviewing the classic viewpoint of power, Lukes’ three-dimensional power and Foucault’s disciplinary power, we discuss power and empowerment in organizational contexts. Findings Power in organizations can be conceptualized based on the classic view, Foucault and critical view and Lukes’ three-dimensional power. We found that true employee empowerment is related to the third dimension of power. The role of HRD for empowerment can be categorized into enhancing motivation and commitment in terms of psychological empowerment and bringing real power to employees. The proposed empowerment model assumes that organizational culture influences the dimensions of empowerment and the role of HRD for supporting empowerment. Practical implications HRD needs to critically assess the meaning of power in particular contexts (Morrell and Wilkinson, 2002) before planning and implementing specific training and development interventions for performance improvement and/or organization development interventions for innovation. Originality/value This study attempts to review, analyze and discuss issues regarding employee empowerment from HRD perspectives. Implications for the roles of HRD and the empowerment model are proposed.

The purpose of this study to describe workplace spirituality practices in Islamic banking according based on biographical characteristics. Total respondents in this study are 125 people. Biographical characteristics of respondents analyzed in this study include age, gender, marital status, and education. Data analysis was used analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Independent sample t-test. The results of this study indicate that workplace spirituality practices highly essential for Islamic banking employees.  Therefore, manager of Islamic banking should incorporate human resource development programs to the needs of the nature of spirituality

The present research was conducted in order to understand the occupational stress faced by the police personnel of Gujarat state and their levels of Job satisfaction with their lives. A total sample of 120 (60 males and 60 females) were taken for the study. Out of the 120 sample, 60 were armed and 60 were Unarmed Police Offices. Occupational Stress scale developed by A.K Shrivastava and A. P. Singh and Job Satisfaction scale developed by Singh and Sharma were used to gather data. The analysis of data was completed using t-test. The results of this study indicate that there is no significant difference in Occupational stress of Armed and Unarmed Police officers and similarly there is no significant difference in Occupational stress of Male and Female Police officers of both the groups. Moreover there is no significant difference in job satisfaction level of Armed and Unarmed Police officers. There is a significant difference in Job satisfaction level of Male and Female Police officers which indicates that Female police officers have higher levels of Job satisfaction than Male Police officers.

Yamaha Vixion Club Bandung (YVCB) was formed on July 7, 2007 in the city of Bandung, as a place of friendship between Yamaha Vixion motorcyclists. In its organizational structure, YVCB has a Human Resource Development (HRD) division. Until now, there are more than 800 Yamaha Vixion Club Bandung members. This software is made to facilitate the work of the Yamaha Vixion Club Bandung HRD Division in processing member data. Created using Microsoft Webmatrix as an editor with the PHP programming language. The database uses MySQL with PHPMyAdmin as the software. The method used in making this software is prototyping so that between developers and customers can understand each other what the customer wants. The purpose of making web-based member data management software is that in terms of managing member data it can be done anytime and anywhere by just accessing the internet. In the use of the program, the author chose to use PHP, because PHP is the best and easiest to use in website programming language. Based on the last paragraph, the author intends to make aplication based computerized attendance so that become effective and efficient in terms of time.
