In the industrial era 4.0, the use of digital comic as a multimodal teaching medium is seen as the new trend in EFL classrooms. Although many teachers had already used this medium, so far, there was not any study which inquires the use of comic in another setting such as vocational high schools. Considering this gap, this study aimed to explore teacher belief, practice, and problems in implementing digital comics to teach writing for vocational students. This study used a qualitative case study approach. The subject was an experienced English teacher who held M. A. in English language. As the findings, the teacher believed that the implementation of comics-manga was the best method to switch the vocational students’ stereotype on English; from English as the most difficult subject to English as the enjoyable subject. This medium was implemented by using the genre approach. However, as the consequence, the combination of digital comics and process approach confronted a major challenge, namely time management.

Indonesia has now entered the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 that impacts vocational schools which are considered the highest contributor to unemployment in Indonesia. Therefore, the government established a revitalization program in vocational schools by learning about Creative Products and Entrepreneurship as well as Teaching Factories to produce competitive human resources who are ready to become job creators. This study aimed at portraying the effectiveness of Creative Products and Entrepreneurship Learning and teaching factories to prepare for job creators in the Industrial Revolution Era 4.0. The study was conducted by employing a descriptive qualitative method by utilizing the Nvivo 11 software to classify and display the results in the form of diagrams, graphs, and models. The results revealed that the implementation of the Creative Products and Entrepreneurship, as well as the Teaching Factories, has not been effectively transforming vocational students into job creators. There were some encountered factors contributing to this phenomenon; time management, teachers’ competence, students’ motivation, and funding. Thus, evaluations are necessary in terms of planning, development, and implementation to cultivate excellent graduates that are ready to create jobs.

The digital learning instituted in Hungary in the spring of 2020 to halt the spread of the coronavirus there arguably encountered stumbling blocks as regards disadvantaged students. However, we have no information about the details, and mitigating these disadvantages is therefore fraught. The aim of our research is to shed light on the experience of digital learning among disadvantaged students. We analysed responses to an online questionnaire completed by teachers at 48 of Hungary’s after-school programmes (ASPs) who were in contact with over 1000, mostly disadvantaged children. We discussed the questionnaire-based analysis with ten ASP representatives in online workshops. In addition to ICT devices and Internet access, the lack of a learning space is also worth considering in promoting the establishment of objective conditions. In maintaining contact with parents, it is recommended that communication habits that differ from those of the middle class should be taken into account. Developing time management and other skills necessary for independent learning (e.g. reading comprehension, digital literacy) as well as alleviating the psychological burden represent a central task in similar situations. Our recommendations may be of use in the event of future school closures and in terms of facilitating digital learning among disadvantaged students.

problem-based learning involves the student in its learning process. The students are expected to do an independent learning in every aspect of learning events, which is very effective to students depend on how they can manage their own schedules and their own activities. This was a qualitative study. The subjects were twenty six medical students  with focus group discussion method, it has 1 key informant and 26 common informants. Data analysis used matrix technique where the information was processed in table and they were: number, informant’s name, emik, ethic, conclussion and displayed in descriptive narration. Students with good time management had characteristics of play an active role in answering and asking questions, have a lot of information about the case in the scenario, understand the explanation given by friends, and achieve the learning objectives given in the tutorial discussion. While students with poor time management were still looking for the materials during the tutorial discussion, confused by the explanation given by friends during the tutorial, passive during the tutorial, and give opinion during the discussion, but no relevant reference. The strategy used by students is reading tutorial material and discussing with friends before the session. The importance of time management in implementing problem-based learning is that students can comprehensively study the given cases and encourage students to actively identify and solve problems in discussions

This study explored students’ independent learning during the Learning from Home Period within this covid 19 outbreak. This study was conducted at the Faculty of Health Science and Agriculture Unika Santu Paulus Ruteng, Flores covering four study majors. In order to obtain the objective of the research, it’s used qualitative studies with a phenomenological approach. Data were obtained through interviews. For the purpose of individual interviews, it’s chosen 12 respondents consisting of 8 students and 4 teachers taken purposively. The research results showed that 1) Students use books, modules, portable computers, and mobile phones as the media to apply independent learning. Certain teachers use online applications such as Goggle Classroom, Email, Whats app, and websites to engage students with internet learning instruments. Dealing with learning sources, students use files in the form of PPT, PDF, a word containing the materials, learning videos, notes, google, youtube, assignments distributed by teachers, and some other materials gained by the students themselves from the internet. 2) Students haven’t possessed time management skills. They don’t provide a specific time to learn the materials they obtain from teachers. They only used the learning schedule provided by the campus. 3) Teachers play most of their roles as instructors and facilitators. As instructors, teachers provided some instructions through materials or subject matters to be learned by the students. Moreover, students are asked or instructed to complete certain assignments within the time limit set up through the learning application used. Meanwhile, as facilitators, teachers provided opportunities for the students to discuss and ask questions through an online application provided. Even, certain questions asked through WhatsApp answered directly by the teachers. 4) There are some advantages and obstacles that could be the policymakers and school authority concerns in order to promote optimal self-learning during this covid-19 outbreak.

Employers of chemistry graduates are seeking a range of transferable skills from prospective employees, and academics are increasingly seeking to build employability skill development opportunities into the undergraduate curriculum. However, research suggests that undergraduates do not recognise or value such skill development without prompting. This recognition is essential if graduates are to be able to articulate their skills in the employment process. This study involves research amongst almost 1000 undergraduates studying chemistry at two institutions, using open-ended questions to collect qualitative data. The extent to which students recognised course-related skills development and understood the skills that employers are looking for was investigated, as was their desire to develop additional skills. Similarities and differences in student views between institutions are discussed, as well as trends across year levels and by gender. Results indicate that undergraduates studying chemistry are most likely to value and recognise development of some key skills sought by employers (teamwork, communication, thinking/problem solving, organisation/time management and laboratory/practical skills), but are very unlikely to value or recognise others (numeracy, independent learning, commercial awareness, interpersonal, research, computer/IT, creativity/innovation, flexibility/adaptability and initiative). Opportunities to develop the latter skills and recognition of the value of doing so will require improved communication with students and/or provision of new experiences within the curriculum.

Abstrak The learning system that was implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic changed. This is done as a form of adaptation so that learning can still be carried out without making crowds that have the potential to expand the spread of the virus. The online-based learning system is the way the government has chosen. Because this learning can be carried out from their respective homes. In online learning, there are different characteristics compared to face-to-face learning, which requires students to develop independent learning and make the best time management to carry out learning as well as complete the assigned task load. In addition, the conduciveness of the student learning environment needs to be considered so that students can focus when participating in learning. For this reason, this research was conducted with a qualitative descriptive method in order to explain the phenomena or problems that exist, especially at the research location, namely SMA Laboratorium UM.
