This study was conducted to assess the psycho-social problems faced by parents with more than one intellectually disabled child in Mangalapuram Panchayath of Trivandrum District, Kerala. The psycho-social elements considered for this qualitative study includes emotional adaptability of parents, the role of support systems and the precautions taken by the family after the birth of the first child. Data were collected from 5 cases selected from the 15 cases identified in Mangalapuram panchayath. The cases were purposively selected from parents having minimum two disabled children. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview guide as a tool. The difficulty faced by the families with two disabled children reveals multiple levels of stress when compared to families with typically developing children. Such families face problems ranging from financial aspects to the physical, psychological and social aspects, which in turn affect their quality of life.

Background: Patients with psoriasis commonly report experiencing severe sensory symptoms, and the burden of these symptoms can extend beyond unpleasant experiences to impair patients’ health-related quality of life (HRQL). However, the symptom of pain and its consequences are still poorly understood in psoriasis patients. Objective: To understand the quality and intensity of pain associated with psoriasis as well as its interference with daily function in patients with psoriasis. Methods: Three focus groups and four interviews with psoriasis patients were conducted (n = 25). A trained facilitator used a semi-structured interview guide based on a literature review and a theory-driven approach. Two researchers independently coded the narratives and reached a consensus on the major themes using NVivo 12 software. Results: Our analysis produced five main themes regarding pain. (1) Perception of pain was illustrated through intense descriptors. (2) Patients identified pain triggers, including self-inflicted triggers. (3) Patients found coping strategies to deal with pain, including suppression of sensory experience. (4) Emotional suffering was linked primarily to the compulsion to continue scratching despite repeated efforts to stop and the failure of physicians to acknowledge the burden of the pain, which led to inadequate pain management. (5) Pain led to an overt impact on HRQL in these patients through interference with daily activity, intimate relationships, and sleep. Conclusions: Pain can be a significant hardship for patients with psoriasis. We encourage clinicians to inquire about pain separate from pruritus and to consider HRQL impacts of their patients’ pain when determining treatments.

Abstract: Title: Radiographers’ perception of suboptimal referrals for plain radiography – a qualitative study.Introduction: Adequately filled in radiology requests forms are crucial for the quality of conducting and reporting examinations. Still suboptimal referrals occur. The knowledge of how the referrals are assessed handled in the radiological department is limited, in particular the role of the radiographers. The purpose of this study was to investigate how radiographers understand, experience and act upon suboptimal referrals and how this influence their work. Methods and Materials: A semi-structured interview guide was developed and applied in individual interviews with five radiographers in south-east Norway. The radiographers had different length of employment and experience in performing plain radiographs. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using a thematic analysis method. Results: Five main categories were identified from the interviews. 1) Scope and type of referral quality problems, where the problem is recognised, mainly due to missing clinical information, which is reported to occur frequently, particularly in referrals for control examinations. 2) Communication experiences and approaches towards patients, experienced colleges or radiologists, when seeking to substitute missing/wrong referral information. 3) Consequences of inappropriate referrals, in shape of unwarranted examinations, waste of time, and reduced job satisfaction. 4) Perceived responsibility for optimisation and justification of examinations. 5) Strategies to overcome the problem, through leadership and co-operation between radiographers, radiologists and referring physicians. Conclusion: Suboptimal referral quality influence the radiographers work. They recognize it as a commonplace problem with implication for quality patient care, own work-situation and -satisfaction and economically for health society. Increased interdisciplinary co-operation may improve the quality of the referrals.

IntroductionStudies have found that the cognitive function levels of intellectually challenged children add a burden to the family and affect quality of life.ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to determine the family burden felt by mothers of children, ages 6–16, whose mental capacity evaluation indicates an IQ of 35–79 to explore the mother's quality of life and discover the factors that yield an impact in this context.AimsThe main objective of this study therefore was to ascertain the family burden and quality of life experienced by the parents of children with mentally retarded or borderline mental capacity.MethodsThe WISC-R test was used in the research to determine the intellectual capacity of children, 6–16 years of age. The sample comprised 131 children and adolescents between the ages 6–16 with IQs in the interval of 35–79 and their mothers. The parents accompanying their children were assessed using the Family Burden Assessment Scale, the World Health Organization Quality of Life instrument and a sociodemographic questionnaire that was filled out during face-to-face interviews.ResultsThe quality of life of the mothers was found to be average. At the same time, as the IQ level of the children went up, the less the mothers felt they were under a family burden. It was seen that the mothers experienced the most difficulty in the domains of “perception of inadequacy” and “emotional burden.”ConclusionMothers with intellectually disabled children need psychosocial support. Providing all members of the family with counseling services to help them cope with the issues and responsibilities involved in the care of disabled children may make a significant difference in quality of life.Disclosure of interestThe author has not supplied his/her declaration of competing interest.

There are increasing worries in many countries worldwide especially in Cameroon as concern the abusive consumption of tramadol and its addictive effects. Experiences within the family have a major influence on the wellbeing of its members, be it child, adolescent or adult. This is what spurred us to question other factors which have harmful effects on those abusing tramadol. This article aims to find how adolescents who have the necessary requirements for an adapted development seek satisfaction in abusive tramadol consumption. The objective was to understand the meaning adolescents who abusively consumes tramadol associate to their family life experiences and also bring out practical information on how adolescent’s emotional needs are met. We conducted a clinical study on three adolescents who abusively consume tramadol at the Psychiatric unit of Jamot Hospital Yaounde. Data was collected using semi- structured interview guide. Data collected was analyzed using thematic content and sequential analysis. The results were interpreted mainly based on the attachment theory which has shown that family life experiences are the association and negative interpretations of events experienced by these adolescents. These experiences have engendered a lacking state which the adolescents try to overcome by abusively consuming tramadol. Finding also indicated that family life experiences lead to the difficulties in managing negative counter-transference reactions which interferes with their ability to provide secured based. Perspectives for this research highlighted the lack of research exploring the rate of tramadol abusive consumption in the rural area and the end comparing their prevalence rates.

In the article the results of studying of features of role of trace elements in the formation of the quality indicators of seeds of oilseed radish in two varieties are reflected. Systematized the views of various researchers on the processes of formation of oil content in cruciferous crops in general and radish oilseed in particular, given the current strategy of fertilizer oilseed crops of the family Cruciferae. Studied feature of the stages of the implementation and effectiveness of mono-component micronutrients in the form of easily soluble and readily available substances. The studied set of microelements included the recommended list of physiologically important components of modern microfertilizer formats and their chemical composition in order to optimally analyze the effectiveness of application for their single application in two key phases of oilseed radish – the phenological phase of stalking and the phenological phase of flowering. The use of each of micronutrients was effective and substantial compared to the oil content of seeds of both cultivars of oilseed radish given the level of oil content in seeds in control variant. The magnitude of the variation in the oil index was estimated taking into account the differences in the nature of the hydrothermal regimes of the research period. This allowed to determine the degree of genotypic nature of the formation of the oil content of seeds in oilseed radish and the possibility and effectiveness of selection of appropriate genotypes with the prospect of obtaining oil in the technical direction of use. Also assessed the role of individual micronutrients in the magnitude of the volatility of oil content in seeds of oilseed radish. Determined that the increase of oil content in seeds of oilseed radish the addition of various trace elements in the range of 0.3-1.4% from the close dynamic the resulting effective action on the formation of this indicator in the form of Co>Zn>Cu>B>Mn>Mo. It is proved that the efficacy of these minerals increases with introducing them into the flowering stage, which is a critical period regarding the implementation of the reproductive potential of the plants of oilseed radish and the formation of appropriate indicators of the quality of its seeds. The recommendations for further research in the field of optimization of fertilizer radish seeds and micronutrients were formulated. Key words: oilseed radish, fertilizer, microelements, seed quality, oil content, variety.

Introduction: In the literature on the problem of social support, besides family sources of support, (husband, wife, children, parents, siblings, relatives), a role of friends, acquaintances and neighbors is emphasized. Purpose: To assess types and level of support that parents receive from specific social groups. Materials and methods: The study included 108 mothers and 108 fathers of intellectually disabled children. We used the original questionnaire and the standardized scale of Social Support by KmiecikBaran. Results: There were differences between the parents in emotional support (standard deviation 3.519), the lowest in informative support (deviation 2.744). General support was poor in the opinion of 34.6% of the parents. Average institutional support related to 42.9% of the parents, strong evaluative support – 37.1% and strong emotional support – 41%. The parents received the strongest informative, institutional, evaluative and emotional support from nurses and physicians. Spouses of the examined gave them poor informative, emotional and institutional support and average evaluative support. Statistically, the fathers received significantly stronger evaluative and emotional support – by more than one point, and by more than 3 points in case of general support than mothers. Conclusions: The parents received average social support, however, it was below the average for the Polish adult population. The spouses gave them poor informative, emotional and institutional support and average evaluative support; teachers, physicians and nurses – average support in all categories, however, in case of the two latter – institutional and evaluative support was close to the above-average values. The fathers enjoyed moderately stronger evaluative, emotional and general support from teachers, physicians and nurses than mothers.
