The article presents the results of the empirical study, which makes it possible to identify the criteria that teachers of general and additional education schools are guided when assessing the possibilities of contemporary art works in solving the problems of students’ spiritual and moral education. The empirical research data are supplemented by the results of theoretical analysis carried out from the humanitarian pedagogical paradigm, which makes it possible to correlate these criteria with the value-semantic nature of spiritual and moral education. There are identified such criteria as the moral norms reflection in contemporary art works, the presence of value content in it, spiritual or ethical conflict that is relevant for students, the form of values representing, problems, ideas corresponding to the students age. As a result, the scientific knowledge about the requirements for the content of students’ spiritual and moral education and the possibilities of contemporary art in solving the problems of spiritual and moral education has been clarified.

The article is devoted to the study of the essence of pedagogical support for self-development of an individual as an independent scientific category, comparison of its morphology with other methods of interaction between teachers and pupils that are close by nature (upbringing, pedagogical support). Attention is focused on the fact that the history of pedagogical thought and educational practice, using the term "pedagogical support of children's self-development," mostly resorts to demonstrating the accumulated pedagogical experience of implementing various educational approaches in conditions of additional education, extra-curricular activity, children's camps and profile shifts, that gives grounds to conclude that additional education is an environment that is optimal for the implementation of the ideas of pedagogical training of the self-development of the maturing personality. The results of empirical study of the problem are presented.

The ubiquity of information and communication technologies, the existence of a "digital culture" actualizes the need for the development of media competence of an individual. The objectives of our study were to evaluate and compare the levels of media competence of schoolchildren and students on the motivational component, which includes the motives of contact with media and media texts, the contact component as a frequency of communication with the media, information, creative, perceptual, evaluative and practical components. When conducting an empirical study, we used modified blocks of questions of A.V. Fedorov's methodology to identify the level of development of media competence and developed a number of creative tasks to measure the level of media competence on a number of its indicators. In the course of the study, the assessment and comparison of the levels of development of media competence of schoolchildren and junior students on the above indicators was carried out. Based on the results of comparison of media competence indicators, analysis of the characteristics of media consumption, respondents’ writings and essays, the reasons for choosing media resources, we have identified a completely insufficient development of critical thinking of students and schoolchildren. The obtained data served as the basis for the development of an experimental media pedagogical program for the development of students' media competence in extracurricular activities, their reflexive abilities and critical perception. Based on the results of an empirical study, we have developed a number of practical recommendations for teachers of general education schools and those working in the system of additional education and interested in the development of media competence of students.

The article reveals the author's position on the formation of adolescents' readiness for self-development, which appears as an objective function of education in the supplementary education of adolescents. The possibilities of additional education of children in the development of a self-developing personality are shown, highlighted in support of the principles on which this type of education is built. On the basis of theoretical comprehension of the content of the principles of supplementary education in their correlation with the criteria and indicators of a person's readiness for self-development, it has been suggested that the formation of the individual's readiness for self-development can be regarded as the objective function of education in adolescent supplementary education. The results of empirical study of the problem are presented.
