The article deals with the results of correlation and regression analysis of the starch content in the tissues of annual shoots of various spruce species under the conditions of introduction into Nizhniy Novgorod region. Estimates of the tightness of the connection between the analyzed indicators are given, and the regression equations are given. The greatest positive correlation was found between the content of starch in phloem and its total quantity. Research objective – to reveal existence and to define narrowness of communication between indicators of content of starch in fabrics of year escapes at different types of a fir-tree. Analyzed even-aged trees with an identical area of food and other equal conditions of growth. In total 145 samples prepared in March, 2016 are tested. Communication between the content of starch on separate fabrics in this regard is significantly less.

Subject. The article investigates and quantifies factors of insurance markets functioning in Russian regions, and reveals possibilities to manage them. Objectives. The purpose of the study is to substantiate regional factors that determine the specifics of regional insurance market development; to quantify them to increase the efficiency of regional insurance. Methods. The study draws on statistical methods, functional analysis, algorithm development, correlation and regression analysis. Results. I calculated coefficients of pair and multiple correlation with the indicators of insurance markets in the context of the subjects of the Russian Federation, and composed regression equations. Based on the analysis, I determined the algorithm for inverse effect of the insurance market on the economic, social, fiscal and environmental performance of the region, offered appropriate measures aimed at developing the economic potential of the region and its social sphere. Conclusions. The paper considers the case of the Republic of Khakassia, one of depressed subjects in the Siberian Federal District. The developed models can be used for other regions of Russia, given the geographical and economic features of development. The findings may help generate regional strategies for socio-economic development at the country level. The scientific contribution and the novelty of the work consist of systematizing and quantifying the factors affecting the insurance mechanisms of regional markets, and assessing the inverse effect of insurance mechanisms on integrated development of the region.

Applying the correlation and regression analysis, the study of the relationship between the volume and structure of innovation costs and the volume of sold innovative products (SIP) in industry was carried out on the example of Ukraine. The time lag of the costs-of-sales impact was also considered. It was hypothesized that the total volume of sold innovative products and their structure (the share of new products for the market, the share of products sold abroad) depend on different types of investment in innovation. The correlation and regression analysis showed that the components of investment in innovation influenced differently the volume and structure of SIP, which confirmed the hypothesis. The total amount of SIP largely depends on the level of costs to purchase machinery, equipment and software, as well as costs related to the component "Other". Positive dynamics of sold innovative products that are new to the market, as well as the products sold abroad, is largely determined by the volume of expenditures on external scientific research. Thus, by influencing the structure of investment in innovation, a company can significantly increase the level of its competitiveness.

Cricula trifenestrata Helfer (Lepidoptera;Saturniidae) are insect pest of avocado, walnuts, and cashews. C. trifenestrata is most destructive insect pest of cashews, but there is no serious control by farmers. The questions about the effect of C. trifenestrata to cashew’s yield. This study aimed to determine the correlation and regression attack degree of C. trifenestrata to the number of flowers and seeds produced by cashew. Research was conducted by a survey of 30 cashew plants with 6 samples unit at each plant. The parameters observed in this study were plant varieties, plant age, time appears caterpillar, caterpillar number, the attack rate, days to flowering, the number of bunches, flower, and seed. The data were analysed by the correlation and regression analysis. The results showed a positive correlation between the degree of caterpillar attacks to number of flowers and seeds. Increasing degree of attacks may increase the number of flowers and seeds.

The paper describes the statistical relationship between physical and mechanical properties of mudrock. It focuses particularly on the correlation between index parameters that are relatively easy to measure and mechanical properties that are difficult to determine. Data for regression analysis were extracted from available published information. Moreover, many tests were carried out on different types of mudrock from various sites. Reasonably good correlation is found between some index parameters and mechanical properties, and various regression equations are proposed for predicting mechanical properties for available data. There is a good correlation between the point load, water content, porosity, and modulus of elasticity with the uniaxial compressive strength, whereas the correlation between the density, elastic wave velocity, and Poisson's ratio with the compressive strength is poor. Theses correlations may aid engineers to make preliminary estimation of the mechanical properties of mudrock when samples of adequate size for testing are generally not available. Furthermore, the selective use of proposed relationships may even reduce the testing requirements of specific projects.

This article discusses the application of applied mathematics in the study of the effectiveness of the enterprise of small forms of entrepreneurship individual entrepreneur Glukhikh L. P. The authors have identified the factors that most significantly affect the result of the enterprise-profit. Regression equations of the dependence of the company’s profit on various factors are compiled. The research methods used were business activity analysis, correlation and regression analysis, research on cyclicity and on the presence of a trend in a time series. The greatest attention should be paid to increasing the cost of sales, since an increase in the cost of sales by 1 ruble entails an increase in profit by 0.92 rubles. The study of the dependence of the company’s profit on time (24 months) showed that the profit changes randomly, there is no clear trend to decrease or increase it. In addition, no different cyclical fluctuations were detected. The analysis of business activity showed that the company is heading for its development.

The article discusses the concepts of trust and corruption in society and explores the interdependence between them using the international Edelman Trust Barometer (ETB) Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). Research methods are: 1) the topological model proposed by the authors, built on the averaged values of these indices; 2) correlation and regression analysis; 3) scenario approach based on the formation of «range corridors». The analysis of the topological model was carried out, on the basis of which the zones of low, medium and high levels of corruption were identified, with a characteristic specific type of relationship between the ETB and CPI indices; the general view of the dependence of the level of trust on corruption in the form of a horizontal S-shaped curve is approximately defined. Statistically significant linear regression equations were obtained, reflecting the relationship of the considered indices for three countries (Germany, Colombia, France).

Free-cutting steel gains specific working properties thanks to the high content of sulfur and phosphorus. These elements, especially sulfur, have a rather high tendency to segregation. Therefore, segregation defects in free-cutting steel continuously cast billets can be significantly developed. The aim of the work was to study the influence of the chemical composition of freecutting steel and casting technological parameters on the quality of the macrostructure of continuously cast billets. A metallographic assessment of the internal structure of cast metal made of free-cutting steel and data processing by application of correlation and regression analysis were the research methods. The array of production data of 43 heats of free-cutting steel of grade A12 was studied. Steel casting on a five-strand radial type continuous casting machine was carried out by various methods of metal pouring from tundish into the molds. Metal of 19 heats was poured with an open stream, and 24 heats – by a closed stream through submerged nozzles with a vertical hole. High-quality billets had a cross-sectional size of 150×150 mm. The macrostructure of high-quality square billets made of free-cutting steel of A12 grade is characterized by the presence of central porosity, axial segregation and peripheral point contamination, the degree of development of which was in the range from 1.5 to 2.0 points, segregation cracks and strips – about 1.0 points. In the course of casting with an open stream, almost all of these defects are more developed comparing with the casting by a closed stream. As a result of correlation and regression analysis, linear dependences of the development degree of segregation cracks and strips both axial and angular on the sulfur content in steel and on the ratio of manganese content to sulfur content were established. The degree of these defects development increases with growing of sulfur content in steel of A12 grade. These defects had especially strong development when sulfur content in steel was of more than 0.10%. To improve the quality of cast metal, it is necessary to have the ratio of the manganese content to the sulfur content in the metal more than eight.
