Background. Previously we have been shown that between parameters of GDV and principal neuroendocrine factors of adaptation exist strong canonical correlation. In the next study, we detected very strong (R=0,994) integral canonical correlation between the parameters of GDV and Immunity. This study, conducted in the same contingent, will analyze the relationships between GDV parameters, on the one hand, and Phagocytosis parameters, on the other. Material and Methods. We observed twice ten women and ten men aged 33-76 years without clinical diagnose. In the morning in basal conditions at first registered kirlianogram by the method of GDV by the device “GDV Chamber” (“Biotechprogress”, SPb, RF). Than we estimated the parameters of Phagocytic function of neutrophils. Results processed by method of canonical analysis, using the software package “Statistica 5.5”. Results. According to the value of the canonical correlation coefficient R with GDV parameters, the registered Phagocytosis parameters are arranged in the following order: activity (0,616), bactericidal capacity (0,493), completeness (0,489) and intensity (0,484) of Phagocytosis of E. coli; completeness (0,482), bactericidal capacity (0,448), activity (0,364) and intensity (0,338) of Phagocytosis of Staph. aureus. Coefficient of canonical correlation between parameters of GDV, on the one hand, and Phagocytosis, on the other hand, makes 0,847. Conclusion. The above data, taken together with the previous ones, state that between parameters of Neuroendocrine-Immune complex and GDV exist strong canonical correlation suggesting suitability of the latter method.

In the morning in basal conditions at first registered kirlianogram by the method of GDV by the device “GDV Chamber” (“Biotechprogress”, SPb, RF). Than we counted up the Leukocytogram and determined Interleukin-1 serum level. Results processed by method of canonical analysis, using the software package “Statistica 5.5”. Results. According to the value of the canonical correlation coefficient R with GDV parameters, the components of the Leukocytogram are arranged in this order: proportion of monocytes (0,769) and eosinophils (0,703), entropy of Leukocytogram (0,636), total leukocytes level (0,558), proportion of lymphocytes (0,492), stub neutrophils (0,374) and polymorphonuclear neutrophils (0,307). Coefficient of canonical correlation between parameters of GDV, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, Leukocytogram, makes 0,904; Leukocytary Strain&Adaptation Indices-1 – 0,756; Leukocytary Strain&Adaptation Indices-2 – 0,783; Interleukin-1 – 0,798. Conclusion. The above data, taken together with the previous ones, state that between parameters of Neuroendocrine-Immune complex and GDV exist strong canonical correlation suggesting suitability of the latter method.

Background. Previously we have been shown that exist strong canonical correlation between parameters of GDV and principal neuroendocrine factors of adaptation as well as parameters of leukocytogram, immunity and phagocytosis. This study, conducted on a much expanded contingent, will analyze the relationships between GDV parameters, on the one hand, and the parameters of acupuncture points (APs), EEG, HRV and adaptation hormones, on the other. Material and Methods. We observed twice 31 women and 29 men aged 26-76 years with dysfunction of neuroendocrine-immune complex. In the morning in basal conditions at first registered kirlianogram by the method of GDV by the device “GDV Chamber” (“Biotechprogress”, SPb, RF). Than we registered simultaneously EEG and HRV and recorded electrical conductivity of three pairs of Aps. Finally, a blood sample was taken to determine the plasma levels of the main hormones of adaptation: cortisol, testosterone and triiodothyronine. Results processed by method of canonical analysis, using the software package “Statistica 64”. Results. The coefficient of canonical correlation between the electrical conductivity of APs and gas-discharge image (GDI) parameters is 0,635; between APs and virtual Chakras parameters – 0,614; instead, between APs and GDV parameters as a whole – 0,707. The autonomic-endocrine constellation is somewhat more strongly associated with GDI parameters than with virtual Chakras parameters (0,769 vs 0,712). Additional inclusion of EEG parameters in the neuroendocrine set increases the strength of the canonical correlation to 0,869. Conclusion. The above data, taken together with the previous ones, state that between parameters of neuroendocrine-immune complex and GDV exist strong canonical correlation suggesting suitability of the latter method.

Compressor stations are important components within natural gas transportation networks. The current paper analyses some of the safety aspects involved in the operation of such facilities – on the one hand related to the explosion risk for employees working in compressor stations and on the other hand related to determining to the areas with increased explosion hazard in such a station, in order to help reducing work-related accidents and the occurrence of professional illnesses. The explosion risk is determined based on a method devised by the National Institute for Research and Development for Environmental Protection Bucharest, while the explosion hazard areas are determined and displayed with the help of the software package AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Studies to describe the survival of Escherichia coli were performed at two sites in a river. The one site was dominated by domestic discharge and the other by industrial inputs. E coli suspensions within membrane diffusion chambers were immersed in the river at the selected sites. An identical chamber was submerged in river water in the laboratory as a comparison. Two test runs were performed, one during winter (July) and one during summer (December). Samples to determine the survival of E coli was taken on a scheduled basis. Results obtained showed no significant difference between the survival pattern of E coli as determined during the summer and winter periods or in the different parts of the river. The same survival pattern was observed for the studies performed in the laboratory.

Participative management as a function of managers' self concept and perception of others. The literature indicates a lack of research concerning individual attributes which may predispose an individual towards participative management. In this study the relationship between two such attributes was investigated, namely self concept and perception of others, on the one hand, and propensity for participative management, on the other hand. An instrument, based on McGregor's theory, was developed to measure perception of others in the work context. Through factor analysis two factors were extracted which respectively measure intrinsic and extrinsic aspects of a person's perception of others' attitudes towards work. A random sample taken from 233 supervisors of a public utility yielded 196 usable questionnaires. A significant relationship was found between self concept and perception of others on the one hand, and propensity for participative management on the other hand, using canonical correlation (r =0,601; p < 0,01). The finding provides support for McGregor's theory that a positive view of others leads towards a participative management style.

1. In vitro experiments were performed with E. coli, using a method designed for the quantitative study of various aspects of sulfonamide resistance. 2. Resistance was found to be a gradually developing process, and was demonstrated for all four drugs tested, sulfanilamide, sulfapyridine, sulfathiazole, and sulfadiazine. 3. It was shown that the degree of resistance developed was correlated with the bacteriostatic potency of the sulfonamides, and that organisms resistant to certain bacteriostatic concentrations of one sulfonamide were equally resistant to similar bacteriostatic concentrations of the other sulfonamides. 4. These observations were interpreted as indicating that the development of sulfonamide resistance represents an interaction between the organisms and the one common structural unit of all the sulfonamides, namely, the p-amino nucleus. It is also suggested that this interaction may involve the same enzyme system (or systems) as those concerned in the antagonism of the sulfonamides by para-aminobenzoic acid. 5. The relation of these findings to the broader aspects of sulfonamide resistance is discussed, and it is postulated that, despite reports to the contrary, all organisms susceptible to the bacteriostatic action of the sulfonamides are capable of becoming resistant to all of the sulfonamides.

AbstractThe effect of daily treatments with 70% ethanol and with 0.5% Chlorhexidine in 70% ethanol, respectively, on navel colonization in newborns has been studied in 624 infants in two maternity wards during a four-month period. Staphylococcus aureus, group B and G streptococci, E. coli and anaerobes were significantly less often isolated from newborns whose umbilical cord was treated with Chlorhexidine in ethanol than from those treated with ethanol only. Staphylococcus epidermidis and enterococci, on the other hand, were significantly more often isolated from the chlorhexidine-ethanol than from the ethanol group. More infants without colonization of the umbilicus on their fourth day of life were found in the Chlorhexidine in ethanol than in the ethanol group. The infants in the ethanol group were colonized with significantly more bacterial species than the infants in the other group. Signs of dissemination of group B and group G streptococci between babies were seen more often in the group of infants treated with ethanol than in the one treated with chlorhexidine-ethanol.

The research carried out at the Reanimation and Intensive Care Department of Tula Region Clinical Hospital showed that the microflora of causative agents of intrahospital infections is dominated by gram-negative flora (75% of the revealed strains), with the most etiologically significant microorganisms being in most cases P. Aeruginosa – 50%, E. Coli and S. Epidermidis in equal shares, 17% each, to a lesser degree – Enterobacter (14%) and Acinetobacter (11%). Associations of microorganisms were found in 14% of cases. Choosing the medicines of antibacterial therapy of intra-hospital infections caused by bacilli the following facts should be taken into account: on the one hand, carbapenems stay active in relation to most species, on the other hand, we see proliferation of panresistant strains P.Aeruginosa re-sistant to imipenem and meropenem. Taking all that into account, it is especially urgentto decrease the selective pressure of carbapenems by choosing alternative medicines whose activity in relation to other representatives of hospital flora has been proved. The revealed strains of K. Pneumoniae have proved to be sensitive to amikacin. E. Coli cultures were sensitive to amikacin and gentamicin.

The first question to be answered, in seeking coordinate systems for geodynamics, is: what is geodynamics? The answer is, of course, that geodynamics is that part of geophysics which is concerned with movements of the Earth, as opposed to geostatics which is the physics of the stationary Earth. But as far as we know, there is no stationary Earth – epur sic monere. So geodynamics is actually coextensive with geophysics, and coordinate systems suitable for the one should be suitable for the other. At the present time, there are not many coordinate systems, if any, that can be identified with a static Earth. Certainly the only coordinate of aeronomic (atmospheric) interest is the height, and this is usually either as geodynamic height or as pressure. In oceanology, the most important coordinate is depth, and this, like heights in the atmosphere, is expressed as metric depth from mean sea level, as geodynamic depth, or as pressure. Only for the earth do we find “static” systems in use, ana even here there is real question as to whether the systems are dynamic or static. So it would seem that our answer to the question, of what kind, of coordinate systems are we seeking, must be that we are looking for the same systems as are used in geophysics, and these systems are dynamic in nature already – that is, their definition involvestime.

Chaperonins are a class of proteins characterized by their role as morphogenetic factors. They trantsiently interact with the structural components of certain biological aggregates (viruses, enzymes etc), promoting their correct folding, assembly and, eventually transport. The groEL factor from E. coli is a conspicuous member of the chaperonins, as it promotes the assembly and morphogenesis of bacterial oligomers and/viral structures. We have studied groEL-like factors from two different bacteria:E. coli and B.subtilis. These factors share common morphological features , showing two different views: one is 6-fold, while the other shows 7 morphological units. There is also a correlation between the presence of a dominant 6-fold view and the fact of both bacteria been grown at low temperature (32°C), while the 7-fold is the main view at higher temperatures (42°C). As the two-dimensional projections of groEL were difficult to interprete, we studied their three-dimensional reconstruction by the random conical tilt series method from negatively stained particles.
