<p><strong>Purpose:</strong> This study aims to reveal current approach and reactions of employees towards learning and development in organisations and to specify variants of behaviour as factors affecting employee development. <em></em></p><p><strong>Methodology/Approach:</strong> The study is based on evaluation of quantitative research. The data were collected via electronic questionnaires. The sample contains 211 employees from organisations across sectors. Bivariate and multivariate statistical methods and analyses were used to lower the number of possible single approaches and practices. Analyses formed valid factors, which influence and determine employee development.</p><p><strong>Findings:</strong> Results identified and verified different ways of reactions of respondents on organisational learning and development. Main searched areas of employee behaviour variability are motivation, affect and performance. Factors described in the presented article show the main ways which are used by employees in order to pass the learning and development process. Variability of employees’ reactions on learning and development process and its impact on performance is described using quantitative data.</p><p><strong>Research Limitation/implication:</strong> The results may be used in praxis in organisations to manage employee behaviour in order to grow constantly and use their own potential talents and leaders. Besides this study there are several promising avenues for further research. It would be useful to know the impact on life-long development and there should be an investigation of the longer term impacts of learning in organisations.</p><p><strong>Originality/Value of paper:</strong> Employee learning and development are truly crucial for organisational and economy development. But the process of learning and development is not constant. Variability of employee behaviour during organisational education and development is currently discussed theme, however there is a lack of studies and researches focused on this area. Therefore this paper identyfies and describes variability of emoployee behaviour during the learning and development process. Employees react in five different directions (positive, negative or neutral as resignation) and the impact on organisation is either positive or none.</p><p><strong>Category:</strong> Case study</p>

As theory still lacks consistent definition of successful talent management, the praxis is characterized by dissimilar interpretations of the term talent. The lack of integrity of definitions appears to be the reason to analyse talent management practices. The article focuses on consistency of suggested practices in management of organisational strategies. The aim is to reveal current approach of Czech organisations towards talent management practices and to specify the main factors affecting employee development in talent management in the tested organisations. Bivariate and multivariate statistical methods and analyses were used to lower the number of possible single approaches and practices. Analyses formed valid factors, which influence and determine employee development as key principles of talent management: alignment with strategy, internal consistency, cultural embeddedness, management involvement, and employer branding through differentiation. Results identified and verified different ways of support of talented employees. Firstly, it is Talent management in its original shape (25.9%), secondly, Learning organisation based on common learning (23.5%) and the third factor name is Plain promises (12.4%). Organisations grouped in the factor only declare possibility of development, but do not practically use it.

Purpose This study aims to identify the factors affecting the political participation of Jordanian university students, especially their voting in national and local elections. The study examines the impact of gender, age, family income and regional affiliation that represent important social and economic factors affecting political participation on the voting of Jordanian university students. Design/methodology/approach Quantitative research method was used in this study. The study population contained three Jordanian universities representing the various segments of the Jordanian society: Al-Al Bayt University (Northern Region), Jordanian University (Central Region) and Mu'tah University (Southern Region). The study relied on a purposive sample of 900 students, 300 students per university (150 males and 150 females). The survey was conducted in the academic year 2018-2019. A questionnaire reviewed by two jurors (peer reviewers) was used to collect the data. Findings The study concluded that the gender, age, family income and regional affiliation factors affect the voting of Jordanian university students in national and local elections. The more the gender varies, the more the voting shifts in favor of males students. The more the age varies, the more the voting shifts in favor of older students. The more the family income varies, the more the voting shifts in favor of high-income students. The more the regional affiliation varies, the more the voting shifts in favor of Jordanians students. Originality/value This study is an approach to interpret the factors affecting voting of Jordanian university students, such as gender, age, family income and regional affiliation, which led to different voting in the national and local elections.

The authors have carried out a study to determine and evaluate the impact of factors affecting the choice of accommodation for students in Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City. Based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs, the theory of consumer choice by Mankiw, a new theory of residential location by Hoang Huu Phe and Wakely, the buyer decision process in consumption by Kotler to build a research model. The study was conducted through 2 phases: qualitative research and quantitative research with 515 answer sheets from students in Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City, and applied the analytical method using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The analysis shows that there are 5 factors that affect the choice of accommodation for students in Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City descending order including: (1) Social relations, (2) Prices, (3) Security, (4) Services, (5) Location. In practical terms, the results show the need/concern of students in Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City when making choice of accommodation, thereby giving recommendations to improve the quality of accommodation for landlords, the board of dormitory management and the departments agency. In addition, this result is an important basis for reference when building smart applications to find accommodation to serve the increasingly diverse needs of students.

With increasing demands on software functions, software systems become more and more complex. This complexity is one of the most pervasive factors affecting software development productivity. Assessing the impact of software complexity on development productivity helps to provide effective strategies for development process and project management. Previous research literatures have suggested that development productivity declines exponentially with software complexity. Borrowing insights from cognitive learning psychology and behavior theory, the relationship between software complexity and development productivity was reexamined in this paper. This research identified that the relationship partially showed a U-shaped as well as an inverted U-shaped curvilinear tendency. Furthermore, the range of complexity level that is beneficial for productivity has been presented, in which, the lower bound denotes the minimum degree of complexity at which personnel can be motivated, while the upper bound shows the maximum extent of complexity that staff can endure. Based on our findings, some guidelines for improving personnel management of software industry have also been given.

Purpose – The purpose of this study was to determine if Systems Development Methodologies (SDMs) are being utilised effectively in the development of Learning Management Systems (LMSs) in South Africa. With e-learning being a critical component of modern educational systems, it has become essential to ensure that LMSs of a high standard are being developed. In the field of SDMs, much research has been done and the value of SDMs is proven and documented. To enhance the chances of developing LMSs of outstanding quality, it is crucial that SDMs are applied efficiently, as they can have a significant impact on the development process. Design/methodology/approach – A positivistic research approach was followed. By utilising a survey as the main research method, quantitative data were generated. By statistically analysing the dataset, meaningful results were obtained. Findings – This study shed some light on how LMS procurement and development is being done in South Africa and revealed that the use of open-source systems currently exceeds the use of proprietary systems. The results of the research showed that SDMs (e.g. Rapid Application Development) are being used effectively in the development of e-learning systems. Strong relationships exist between many of the SDM factors identified (e.g. performance expectancy and the perceived support of the methodology) and the quality and productivity of the development process. This, in turn, has a strong influence on the impact SDMs have on the quality of LMSs. Originality/value – The study made a contribution to the discipline of information systems and, more specifically, LMSs, by providing insights with regard to the factors affecting the use and effectiveness of SDMs in developing LMSs. As far as could be ascertained, this study generated the first empirical data on the procurement and development of LMSs in South Africa.

Due to the ongoing process of globalization, enterprises need to provide financial statements in accordance with international practices, in which information about assets and liabilities should be presented at fair values rather than at original prices. Fair value is supported by the International Accounting Standards Board and the Financial Accounting Standards Board. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adoption of fair value accounting in Vietnam and the impact of factors on the adoption of fair value. The paper used the analytical framework of previous studies to identify factors affecting the adoption of fair value. Additionally, this study applied quantitative research methods and collected data by sending questionnaires to 127 accountants and directors of listed companies. Particularly, binary logistic regression was conducted to investigate the extent of the impact of each factor on the adoption of fair value. The results have shown that human resources have the strongest and positive impact on the adoption of fair value, and this is followed by the benefits of fair value. Difficulties and markets negatively affect the use of fair value. Furthermore, the control variables that affect the use of fair value are sector, size and length of operation with different levels of impact. The accuracy rate of the overall predictive model is 85.8%. The findings provide guidance of the application of fair value accounting in companies and give recommendations to policy makers in establishing a legal accounting framework in Vietnam.

Identifying the importance and satisfaction of hotel attributes in the eyes of tourists and their role in building customer loyalty is critical for improving the service quality. Therefore, in our study, customers' importance and performance perceptions regarding the services offered by accommodation businesses were examined in terms of customers’ nationalities. Our research has two main objectives.  The first objective is to determine the importance and performance perceptions of the services provided by the hotels according to the nationalities of the customers using the using importance-performance analysis (IPA) model and to compare the perceptions of importance-performance according to nationality. The second aim is to determine the effect of satisfaction perceptions regarding hotel services on customer loyalty according to customer nationality. The research was designed as a survey-based quantitative research methodology. Convenience sampling was used, which is a non-random sampling method. Data were obtained from 1153 German, Russian, and Turkish tourists accommodating in five-star hotels in Alanya, Turkey. A gap analysis was conducted using pairwise t-tests to evaluate whether the importance and performance perceptions of the participants differed. IPA was conducted with attributes being graphically displayed on the I-P grids. The impact of hotel service satisfaction on customer loyalty was investigated using regression analysis. The research findings reveal that customers' performance perceptions and services attach importance to differ significantly by nationality. And also, it was concluded that satisfaction with the services provided in accommodation businesses has a significant effect on customer loyalty and that this effect differs in customer groups. Determining satisfaction factors affecting customer loyalty according to customer characteristics make a significant contribution to service quality improvement. In this context, the research results provide practical and theoretical contributions to how customer satisfaction and customer loyalty can be improved according to market groups.

The infrastructure sector is the top priority of the Indonesian government's development from 2014 to 2019. Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) data shows that the number of corruption cases in infrastructure projects has increased during 2015-2018. The value of losses in corruption cases in infrastructure projects is estimated at 1.1 trillion rupiah. The results of various studies on the factors affecting fraudulent financial statements show inconsistent results. This research aims to determine the impact of the stimulus, ability, opportunity, rationalization, and self on companies' fraudulent financial statements in the infrastructure industry listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX). This study uses quantitative research methods. Sampling techniques use purposeful sampling, that is, hypothesis testing using logistic regression analysis models. The results showed that the stimulus measures had a positive and significant impact on fraudulent financial statements. Competence, opportunity, and rationalization have a positive and insignificant impact on fraudulent financial statements. The impact of self on fraudulent financial statements is negligible. The research supports the agency theory that management can commit fraudulent financial statements and achieve the Company's financial goals.

Decision-making and subjective evaluation are two important aspects that characterizes the involvement of an organization in tender process. Moreover, selection of the right project to bid for is a principal feature of business success. The study aims to investigate the behavioral differences of Saudi construction contractors toward internal and external factors based on the process of modelling the bidding decisions. A quantitative research design is used to investigate the behavioral differences of 97 contractors recruited from construction industry of Saudi Arabia. A questionnaire was distributed among the respondents that would help in identifying the significant level of factors affecting the bid or no bid decision. The impact of internal and external factors on the bidding decisions was evaluated using one-way ANOVA analysis. The results have shown a significant and positive effect of internal and external factors on the bid or no bid decision; including job start time, work capital requirement, availability of qualified human resources, bidding methods, bidding document price, project supervision procedure and etc. The study has helped in establishing a better understanding toward the behavioral differences of contractors with respect to the bidding decisions.

Training programs focused on professional learning and development are meant to provide teachers with opportunities to develop their professional competencies for teaching in specific domains. These programs represent an important branch of the educational system in Romania. In the study that we have initiated we have tested and validated the hypothesis that identifying professional training needs and offering specific courses in order to develop the professional competencies represents a key condition for teachers’ effectiveness in terms of their professional learning and development. The methods and instruments for educational research that we used in the present study are both qualitative and quantitative, based on questionnaires, individual interviews and focus group interviews. The reason why we opted for the mixed methods is because quantitative research throughout questionnaires does not always allow participants to explain their choices or the meaning of the questions. The quantitative survey was carried out on a non-probabilistic sample (770 teachers) and the focus groups were conducted with groups of 10 randomly selected respondents from the training program. All the teachers participating in our study are from pre-university education and have participated in continuing education programs accredited by the Department of Educational Sciences of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences.
