The author of the article studied the assessment of the literary group Serapinovy brothers by the critics of the Russian diaspora – Georgy Adamovich and Alexander Yashchenko. Adamovich was called the best critic of emigration, he enjoyed a well-deserved prestige. All critical articles by Georgy Adamovich are distinguished by their objectivity. He deeply understood the essence of works of art. This allowed the critic to accurately predict the further paths of the creative development of the author, about whom he wrote. The article reconstructs the presence of Georgy Adamovich at the meetings of the Serapion brothers in those years when he was still in Russia. The critic's articles also indicate his rejection of folklore, the stylization of that part of the serapions who called themselves „eastern” and followed the folk tradition. The critic gives a positive assessment to the writers who were guided by Western literature. In his articles, Georgy Adamovich gives an objective assessment to the poets of the literary group Nikolai Tikhonov and Elizaveta Polonskaya. The fate of these poets testifies to the fact that the critic understood exactly the prospects of their development. The author of the article investigated the reception by Alexander Yashchenko of the Russian literary group. Alexander Yashchenko was the publisher and main critic of the New Russian Book magazine, which was published in Berlin. The author of the article determined that Yashchenko was interested in the literary life of Russia and understood the laws of the literary process of the 1920s. Alexander Yashchenko, in an article on the development of Russian literature from 1917 to 1922, calls the writers of the Serapion Brothers literary group as an important phenomenon of this period. The critic examines the work of Vsevolod Ivanov, Mikhail Zoshchenko and Konstantin Fedin. He objectively evaluates their works, points out the possibilities of creative development. The author of the article notes that criticism of Alexander Yashchenko is characterized by depth and objectivity. Back in 1922, the critic saw that the work of Yevgeny Zamyatin influenced the writers of the Serapion Brothers literary group. Scientists drew attention to this only at the end of the twentieth century.

The study focuses on the special status of fundamentally unfinishable work in the Russian literature at the turn of the 19th — the first third of the 20th century. In this period such forms as a fragment, passage and outline — symbolically representing parts of the conception, but not leading to the fullness of its implementation — have special significance. In this period conception of a literary work implies some features of an ideal work, which either cannot be realized or should be realized in the distant future. The unrealized and unfinished work thus has utopian features, since its realization is associated with an indefinite / ideal future. The study of such ideas will highlight the phenomenon of the unrealized work, which still remains on the periphery of the theoretical analysis. The oral and written evidences of the unrealized work, forming a whole area of not fully developed, but only intended, influenced on intellectual horizon of the epoch and the forms of other, finished, works. Indirect forms of realization of the conception, which left traces in diaries, notebooks, memorials, fragmentary forms, are extraordinary important for understanding the literary process and the intellectual history of the twentieth century as a whole.

Genre specifi cs of the stories «Lyol’ka’s Upbringing» and «A Day in the Vastness of Nature» by Mikhail Albov is considered. Historical-typological analysis of both works is given. Chronotope, type of plots, features of speech organisation in both stories, which are considered as a dilogy, are analysed. The overview characteristic of the existence of the genre of story in the Russian literary process is given, the exclusive affi liation of story genre to Russian literature is noted. Literary trends of the late 19th century are marked, the signifi cant role of the story genre in Russian literature in the 2nd half of the 19th century is indicated. Two traditions in determining the specifi cs of the story genre – by formal features and by meaningful characteristics - are noted. Mikhail Albov’s works general specifi city - the static character of heroes when repeatedly using the same names and life stories of characters in different works of the writer – is presented. The story «Lyol’ka’s Upbringing» by Mikhail Albov is characterised as storytelling traditional one for literature about suffering children, a conclusion about the writer’s creative perception of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s works is made. The story «A Day in the Vastness of Nature» by Mikhail Albov is defi ned as one unrelated to the story «Lyol’ka’s Upbringing» by plot. The article proves that the stories constitute a dilogy. Prevalence of psychology in portraying heroines of both stories is noted; the genre invariant of a story, characteristic of belles lettres of the last third of the 19th century, is identified.

The paper covers the issue of Pu Song-ling’s “Liao Zhai zhiyi” translations into Russian and their influence on the modern Russian literary process. Having analyzed the most significant translations of “Liao Zhai” we come to the following conclusions: 1. At the end of 19th — beginning of the 20th centuries the works by Pu Song-ling started to be translated into Russian, though influence of these translations was not that substantial. 2. By 1920-s about a dozen of “Liao Zhai” stories have been translated into Russian, though all of them lacked both: a special pattern of this kind of translations and a special literary style to match. 3. In 1920–1930-s academician V. Alekseev worked out the pattern to follow and a special literary style, suiting the peculiarities of “Liao Zhai zhiyi” and very appropriate for translation. 4. While translating “Liao Zhai” V. Alekseev did not preserve the original structure of the collection, but translated tales according to their plots and characters. 5. Later there have been several other attempts to translate the very stories in a different style, but none led to a real success with the readers. 6. A great many issues of the traditional Chinese culture have been absorbed by Russian readers primarily from “Liao Zhai” translations made by V. Alekseev. 7. V. Alekseevs translations of “Liao Zhai” have produced a significant influence on Russian literature of late 20th — early 21st centuries

The article analyzes the specifics of the receptive impact of the artistic Messianic concept of F. Dostoevsky, which influences providential contexts in the cultural philosophy of the ХХth century. The possibility to identify the features of the artistic embodiment of the Russian Messianic problems in cultural philosophy and literature of the ХХth century determines the relevance of this study. The analysis of the strategy of modeling possible worlds in Dostoevskys work, which referentially determines the development of Russian utopian / dystopian providence, determines the novelty of the study. The concepts of the Christological axiosphere, which reflects Dostoevsky's Messianic concept, determine the most important coordinates of the providential receptive trends of the ХХth century. They are objects of analysis in the article. It is proved that the semiotics of messianic motifs in Russian literature of the XXth century is connected, first of all, with the Abrahamic religious context, which is built into the most complex providential concept of the anthropological Christology of F. Dostoevsky. According to the principles of fractal logic, the writer generates the Abrahamic canon in the key messianic world-modeling metametaphors. Dostoevsky's messianic pretext is referentially manifested in Russian literature of the twentieth century - in the work of Russian Symbolists, who understand the Messiah as a divine-existential personality, in the works of writers of the late XXth century, who interprete the messiah as a collective personality - a substitutionary sacrifice. In our opinion, the chiliastic aspiration of messianic Christology and anthropology is also connected with the influence of Dostoevsky. However, we should talk about the dissipative variability of messianic concepts due to the contextual reference of messianic ideas of eastern origin, in particular, the Zoroastrian, Sufi and Islamic contexts are found. The artistic idea of messianism in Russian literature of the XXth century can also be considered as a semiotic sign system that reveals historiosophical and socio-political meanings, modeling the tendencies of anthropologization and ontologization of the literary process.

Абрамов. The significance of the literary heritage of Yuri Krasavin is based on both the creative personality of the writer and his literary connections with the greatest writers of his time. Genetic and typological connections with prose writers of the second half of the twentieth century are traced. Of great importance for the formation and creative development of Yuri Krasavin was a famous Russian prose writer F.A. Abramov.

The book represents the collection of reader’s letters addressed to M.A. Sholokhov — it is one of the largest and most unique in the history of Russian literature. These first published readers’ letters, 1929–1955 from the archives of Moscow and Veshenskaya stanitsa (M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and Sholokhov family archive) recreate in a new way the picture of the historical and literary process of the twentieth century, reveal the content of dialogue between Sholokhov and his readers, expanding and deepening not only the perception of the history of Russian literature of the Soviet era, but also the twentieth century as a whole in Russian culture — as the century of a reader. The book is addressed to philologists, historians, sociologists and to a wide general readership.

This article describes some of the features of contemporary Russian literary processes. Contemporary Russian literature presents vast number of authors and works. The literary process is going on intensively, but it lacks is no distinct core, a certain vector. Also, there is a serious need to explore the differences between expert opinions in literary sphere (influential critics, literary awards) and the reading habits of the public. This article presents an attempt to compare two approaches to modern Russian literature: by the expert community, and by popularity at the market. To determine opinions of expert community, nominations and literary awards were chosen. To assess demand from the public, sales leaders and market ratings were explored. By comparing data on expert opinions and requests from a mass audience, we can identify two lines of assessment: the line of incoherence and the line of coherence. The results show complex intertwining between serious literature and mass market in modern Russian literary process. Keywords: literary process, modern Russian literature, reader

The article examines methodological principles of studying the Russian literary canon in the cultural context of Eastern Orthodoxy, as demonstrated in I. Esaulov’s book. While acknowledging the importance of the book’s method, the article reviews and criticizes the concepts used by the scholar (the Eastern archetype, the Christmas archetype, the categories of Law and Grace, etc.). In particular, the author challenges the statement that a writer populates his works with archetypes prevailing in his culture (so Eastern Orthodox ones in the case of Russian culture), often against his own religious principles. Also subjected to critical analysis is the thesis about the Easter archetype being more specific to Russian literature, with the Christmas archetype being more typical of Western literature. On the whole, the paper argues that the transhistorical approach declared by the scholar as opposed to the rigorously historical method (M. Gasparov and others) may often lead to strained hypotheses and mythologizing; all in all, it may result in an ahistorical perception of both Eastern Orthodoxy and the literary canon.

Galina Yakovlevna Ilyina is an outstanding Russian literary critic specializing in Yugoslav literatures. A researcher of the history and typology of the literatures of the South Slavs, she devoted her whole life to their study and popularization. Thanks to her efforts, the development of the literary process of the Bulgarian, Bosnian, Macedonian, Serbian, Slovenian, Croatian and Montenegrin literature has acquired a complex and systematic character in our country. Galina Yakovlevna can rightfully be considered the founder of the academic school of literary Yugoslav studies in Russia, the academic personnel trained by her are currently successfully continuing to develop the themes and problems of the literatures of the Yugoslav and post-Yugoslavian space. Galina Yakovlevna became the first Yugoslav literary critic in the Russian Federation who was awarded the academic title of Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the qualification Literature of the Peoples of Foreign Countries.

The review article presents various views on the periodization of Russian literature in the 1920s and 1930s and provides arguments in favor of new, refined approaches to the boundaries of the period. Particularly noteworthy are the works of those authors who point to the need for an expanded understanding of the twenties. The concept of the Big Twenties is of particular value in connection with the centenary of the magazine Krasnaya Nov , which made a significant contribution to the literary process of that time.
