This paper introduces an energy-saving biomass stove. The principle of energy-saving biomass stove is gasification. It is a chemical process, transforms solid fuel into a gas mixture, called (CO + H2 + CH4) gas. Emission lines in the stove chimneys typically remain high temperatures around 90° to 120°C. The composition of the flue gas consists of combustion products of rice husk which are mainly CO2, CO, N2. A little volatile in the rice husk, which could not burn completely, residual oxygen and dust will fly in airflow. The amount of dust in the outlet gas is a combination of un-burnt amount of impurity and firewood, usually occupied impurity rate of 1 % by weight of dry husk. Outlet dust of rice husk furnace has a normal size from 500μm to 0.1 micron and a particle concentration ranges from 200-500 mg/m3. Gas emissions is created when using energy-saving stove and they will be used as the main raw material in combustion process Therefore the CO2 emission into the environment when using the stove will be reduced up to 95% of a commonly used stove.

The combustion process in the working space of a heat installation is simulated. The static characteristic of the dependence of fuel consumption on air consumption in the conditions of stabilization of heat generated as a result of the combustion process is shown, therefore, the possibility of optimizing this process is proved. A block diagram, mathematical model and algorithm for calculating energy-saving fuzzy control of the combustion process in the working space of a thermal installation are developed. Combustion Membership functions of fuzzy sets for input linguistic variables are compiled. The rule bases are formulated taking into account the static characteristics of the control object. Examples of technological and linguistic justification of fuzzy controller rules are given. The dynamics of changing the controlled parameter is determined by solving two differential equations. The search for levels of "cut-offs" for the prerequisites of each of the rules using the "minimum" operation in accordance with the compiled database of rules is performed. The defuzzification procedure was performed (bringing it to clarity). The advantages of this system over traditional stabilizing control systems under the action of a set of random factors and a significantly nonlinear relationship between input and output values are shown. Optimal values of scaling factors for the developed automatic control system are determined. Let's consider an example of the formation of a control effect when implementing fuzzy energy-saving control of the combustion process in the working space of the boiler unit No. 3 of the GKP-1A UGPU of Gazprom dobycha Urengoy LLC. The calculations of the amount of inleakage of atmospheric air, excess air flow, the sectional area of the pipe supplying air, the total air flow in the working space of the thermal installation, the volume of natural gas participating in the combustion process, heat resulting from the combustion, the amount of air that did not participate in the combustion process, the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of excess air until the average temperature of the flue gas remaining heat of the combustion reaction, changes in the oxygen concentration in the exhaust flue gases depending on the air flow to the burner. The functional dependence of the flue gas temperature on the natural gas consumption is constructed by approximating the initial data of the regime map of the steam boiler. The dynamic properties of an inertia-delayed controlled process are taken into account when using the Euler method. The combustion control mode influence on the specific fuel consumption is estimated. The effects of using a system with fuzzy control in terms of saving natural gas and electricity over the entire range of performance of a thermal installation are estimated.

Abstract Background Burning fast-growing trees for energy production can be an effective alternative to coal combustion. Thus, lignocellulosic material, which can be used to obtain chemicals with a high added value, is highly abundant, easily renewed and usually inexpensive. In this work, hemicellulose extraction by acid hydrolysis of plant biomass from three different crops (Chamaecytisus proliferus, Leucaena diversifolia and Paulownia trihybrid) was modelled and the resulting solid residues were used for energy production. Results The influence of the nature of the lignocellulosic raw material and the operating conditions used to extract the hemicellulose fraction on the heat capacity and activation energy of the subsequent combustion process was examined. The heat power and the activation energy of the combustion process were found to depend markedly on the hemicellulose content of the raw material. Thus, a low content in hemicelluloses resulted in a lower increased energy yield after acid hydrolysis stage. The process was also influenced by the operating conditions of the acid hydrolysis treatment, which increased the gross calorific value (GCV) of the solid residue by 0.6–9.7% relative to the starting material. In addition, the activation energy of combustion of the acid hydrolysis residues from Chamaecytisus proliferus (Tagasaste) and Paulownia trihybrid (Paulownia) was considerably lower than that for the starting materials, the difference increasing with increasing degree of conversion as well as with increasing temperature and acid concentration in the acid hydrolysis. The activation energy of combustion of the solid residues from acid hydrolysis of tagasaste and paulownia decreased markedly with increasing degree of conversion, and also with increasing temperature and acid concentration in the acid hydrolysis treatment. No similar trend was observed in Leucaena diversifolia (Leucaena) owing to its low content in hemicelluloses. Conclusions Acid hydrolysis of tagasaste, leucaena and paulownia provided a valorizable liquor containing a large amount of hemicelluloses and a solid residue with an increased heat power amenable to efficient valorization by combustion. There are many potential applications of the hemicelluloses-rich and lignin-rich fraction, for example as multi-components of bio-based feedstocks for 3D printing, for energy and other value-added chemicals.

With the combustion of solid fuels, emissions such as particulate matter are also formed, which have a negative impact on human health. Reducing their amount in the air can be achieved by optimizing the combustion process as well as the flue gas flow. This article aims to optimize the flue gas tract using separation baffles. This design can make it possible to capture particulate matter by using three baffles and prevent it from escaping into the air in the flue gas. The geometric parameters of the first baffle were changed twice more. The dependence of the flue gas flow on the baffles was first observed by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and subsequently verified by the particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) method. Based on the CFD results, the most effective is setting 1 with the same boundary conditions as those during experimental PIV measurements. Setting 2 can capture 1.8% less particles and setting 3 can capture 0.6% less particles than setting 1. Based on the stoichiometric calculations, it would be possible to capture up to 62.3% of the particles in setting 1. The velocities comparison obtained from CFD and PIV confirmed the supposed character of the turbulent flow with vortexes appearing in the flue gas tract, despite some inaccuracies.

The main purpose of this article is to develop an environmentally friendly and economically effective process to produce silica from rice husk ash. Sodium silicate solution was prepared by the reaction of rice husk ash and sodium hydroxide solution, and then the sodium silicate solution was used as the raw material for the preparation of silica with sodium bicarbonate. During the reaction, the by-product can be passed into CO2 to prepare sodium bicarbonate what can be reutilized. Experimental route achieved resource recycling and environment-friendly, low energy consumption, zero emissions and so on. Meanwhile the microstructures of the silica powders were characterized by Transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Thermo gravimetric/Differential thermal analyzer (TG-DTA).The purity of silicon was up to 99.43% and the particle size was 200-300nm.

Abstract The dynamic growth of the use of non-renewable fuels for energy purposes results in demand for catalysts to improve their combustion process. The paper describes catalysts used mainly in the processes of combustion of motor fuels and fuel oils. These catalysts make it possible to raise the efficiency of oxidation processes simultanously reducing the emission of pollutants. The key to success is the selection of catalyst compounds that will reduce harmful emissions of combustion products into the atmosphere. Catalysts are introduced into the combustion zone in form of solutions miscible with fuel or with air supplied to the combustion process. The following compounds soluble in fuel are inclused in the composition of the described catalysts: organometallic complexes, manganese compounds, salts originated from organic acids, ferrocen and its derivatives and sodium chloride and magnesium chloride responsible for burning the soot (chlorides). The priority is to minimize emissions of volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, and carbon monoxide, as well as particulate matter.

It is proposed to use the methods of applied optical spectroscopy to solve the problem of control and diagnostics of gaseous hydrocarbon fuel combustion in this work. The results of an experimental study of spectroscopic informative parameters characterizing the propane combustion process are presented for three modes: combustion of pure propane without air supply, stoichiometric combustion and combustion with a change in the amount of supplied air relative to stoichiometric combustion. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the most intense bands in the emission spectrum of the flame arising from the combustion of propane correspond to the spectral bands of radicals of combustion products: OH, CH, and C2. While the intensities of various systems of bands in the flame spectrum depend significantly on the composition of the combustible mixture.

The combustion process of municipal solid waste (MSW) in a operating 750t/d grate furnace in Guangzhou was researched by means of numerical simulation. The influence of MSW moisture content on burning effect was discussed. The results show that: with the moisture content dropped from 50% to 30%, the heat value could be evaluated from 13.72% to 54.91% and the average temperature in the furnace could be promoted 90-248°C. However, the combustible gases and particle in the flue gas of outlet would take up a high proportion since lacking of oxygen would lead to an incomplete combustion. The excess air coefficient should be increased to 2.043~2.593 in order to ensure the flue gas residence time more than 2s and temperature in the furnace higher to 800°C.

The analysis of the values of the concentrations of the formed nitrogen oxides and the temperatures of the jet plume under various conditions of mixture formation is carried out. The plots of the distribution of torch temperatures and concentrations of nitric oxide in the calculated area for oxidizer temperatures of 20, 60, 100, 150, and 200 ° C were obtained and analyzed. Mathematical modeling of the gaseous fuel combustion process was carried out using the FlowVision software package. An analysis of the results showed that a decrease in the temperature of the air supplied as an oxidizing agent leads to a significant decrease in the concentration of nitrogen oxides in flue gases, while not significantly affecting the change in the flame temperature. The research results can be used to solve the problems of optimizing boiler plants, in order to reduce harmful flue gas emissions. Further modeling is planned to determine the dependence of the influence of various factors on the degree of formation of nitrogen oxides in the flue gases of boiler plants.
