The University Network on Social Responsibility is a network of more than 40 universities in Germany and Austria established in 2009 that want to realise and expand their social responsibility by systematically promoting the civil society engagement of students, teachers, and other members of higher education, linking this with their educational mission and thus actively influencing society and contributing to the mutual transfer of knowledge. This can be done through the teaching-learning format of service learning (SL). In 2018, a workshop initiated a discussion between representatives of academia and civil society. The focus was the aspect of quality of SL. The group came up with ten different criteria which provide a frame of reference for the different manifestations of SL in the community. Based on these criteria, suitable procedures and instruments were developed to provide SL actors with orientation and suggestions for the implementation and evaluation of SL projects.

Este trabajo realiza una revisión sistemática para identificar los principales hallazgos reportados en la literatura científica sobre la percepción del estudiante universitario hacia la práctica de estrategias de gamificación en su proceso de aprendizaje. La búsqueda documental se ha llevado a cabo a partir de la triangulación de las publicaciones incluidas en las bases de datos “Web of Science” y “Scopus” durante el período 2010-2019. Tras aplicar los criterios de selección y calidad, se han identificado un total de 20 estudios como muestra final. Los resultados demuestran el interés creciente de la comunidad científica por plantear trabajos sobre gamificación en Educación Superior. Además, se corrobora una predisposición favorable en el alumnado hacia el desarrollo de experiencias didácticas innovadoras basadas en la gamificación. Entre sus potencialidades, destaca el aumento de la motivación, el interés y la participación del alumnado en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, así como la mejora del rendimiento académico y el desarrollo de las habilidades y competencias necesarias para su desarrollo profesional. This work performs a systematic review to identify the main findings reported in the scientific literature on the perception of the university student towards the practice of gamification strategies in their learning process. The documentary search was carried out based on the triangulation of the publications included in the "Web of Science" and "Scopus" databases during the period 2010-2019. After applying the selection and quality criteria, a total of 20 studies have been identified as the final sample. The results demonstrate the growing interest of the scientific community to propose works on gamification in Higher Education. Furthermore, a favorable predisposition in the students towards the development of innovative didactic experiences based on gamification is corroborated. Among its potential, the increase in motivation, interest and participation of students in the teaching-learning process stands out, as well as improving academic performance and developing the skills and competences necessary for their professional development

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched on 29 September 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to rank the academic & research institutions across the country. The NIRF E-release of India Ranking 2020 was held on 11th June 2020. The present study analyses the top 100 Universities in terms of visualisation of data, the relationship of ranking with the parameters, and the relations among these parameters. Results of the study indicate that the Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR) score for all the universities was almost similar while Research and Professional Practice (RP) score had a considerable variation and played a significant role in ranking by having a positive linear correlation with the total score with the value of R2= 0.746. RP also has a strong correlation with the Peer Perception (PR) of the university. The average library expenditure of top-10 universities was 9.45 crore per annum. It was also found that library expenditure has a positive correlation with RP and the universities with higher research productivity also have a more outstanding quality of publication in terms of citations.

Resumo: As universidades têm a atribuição de formar cidadãos responsáveis e éticos, de forma que contribuam com o desenvolvimento sustentável e resolução de problemas sociais. Nesta esteira, a responsabilidade social no ambiente universitário viabiliza a construção de ações que impactam a sociedade favorecendo a inclusão social, melhoria na qualidade de vida e outros benefícios. Diante desse cenário, busca-se nesta pesquisa responder ao seguinte questionamento: qual a importância da responsabilidade social nas universidades? E para responder a essa indagação, o artigo apresenta como objetivo geral: identificar qual a importância da responsabilidade social no ambiente universitário, e como objetivos específicos (1) compreender fatores históricos e práticos que favorecem a aplicabilidade da responsabilidade social nas universidades; (2) identificar os desafios na aplicabilidade de responsabilidade social; (3) analisar as características fundamentais da responsabilidade social. Quanto à metodologia aplicada, o artigo foi construído por meio de uma análise sistemática da literatura que permitiu realizar uma revisão teórica e conceitual, em seguida, houve a discussão da literatura, considerações finais e referencial teórico. Os Resultados revelam que a Responsabilidade Social Universitária possui muitos desafios a serem enfrentados e que o espaço universitário precisa ser fortalecido para que proporcione à sociedade indivíduos com capacidade técnica capaz de resolver problemas sociais. Abstract: Universities are responsible for training responsible and ethical citizens, so that they contribute to sustainable development and the resolution of social problems. In this way, social responsibility in the university environment enables the construction of actions that impact society, favoring social inclusion, improved quality of life and other benefits. Given this scenario, the aim of this research is to answer the following question: what is the importance of social responsibility in universities? And to answer this question, the article presents the general objective: to identify the importance of social responsibility in the university environment, and as specific objectives (1) understand historical and practical factors that favor the applicability of social responsibility in universities; (2) identify challenges in the applicability of social responsibility; (3) analyze the fundamental characteristics of social responsibility. As for the methodology applied, the article was built through a systematic analysis of the literature that allowed for a theoretical and conceptual review, then there was a discussion of the literature, final considerations and theoretical framework. The Results reveal that University Social Responsibility has many challenges to be faced and that the university space needs to be strengthened so that it provides society with individuals with technical capacity capable of solving social problems. Keywords: Social Inclusion. Following WWII, America committed itself to a system of mass liberal education with a core component of the humanities, a system designed to improve the quality of people's lives and strengthen the social bond. This linkage of private and public ends was both symbolized and secured by the combination of public and private support for higher education. Today, the American system is in jeopardy because the private and public entities that support the university have largely turned away from the educational mission even as they have dramatically increased their support for research and other activities. The resulting alteration in the character of the university necessarily comes at a cost to the democratic aspirations and the vision of human flourishing that higher education has traditionally served.

Es un reto de los educadores del colectivo docente de primer año de la carrera de Ingeniería Informática de la Universidad de Granma perfeccionar el proceso docente-educativo, a partir de que se revelan insuficientes nexos y relaciones entre las disciplinas y asignaturas del currículo de primer año, que hace que no se aprovechen adecuadamente los conocimientos previos para potenciar nuevos conocimientos de forma integrada. Por tanto, esta investigación tiene como fin elaborar un modelo metodológico de visitas a clases hacia la materialización de integración de contenidos en el proceso formativo. Es un modelo, quefacilita el problema de la integración de los contenidos académicos y proporciona una mejor contribución a la contextualización del contenido y a la calidad de los resultados en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje. METHODOLOGICAL MODEL OF VISITS TO CLASSES TO THE MATERIALIZATION OF INTEGRATION OF CONTENTS ABSTRACT It is a challenge for educators teaching staff first year of the Computer Engineering degree from the University of Granma improve the educational process, from that insufficient linkages and relationships between disciplines and subjects in the curriculum of the year are revealed, which makes no prior knowledge properly exploit new knowledge to enhance an integrated manner. Therefore, this research aims to develop a methodological model of class visits towards the materialization of content integration in the training process. It is a model that facilitates the problem of the integration of academic content and provides a better contribution to the contextualization of the content and the quality of the results in the teaching-learning process. Scientific research is part of any university mission, at least of big universities, as it represents the complementary element required by the learning process. A learning process based on engendering knowledge is much more valuable and competitive than a learning process which is reduced to a mere transfer of knowledge from the teacher to the students. The important universities consider that “the development of scientific research as a fundamental competence is essential for survival in a more and more competitive environment on global level and that is why, research should be part of the university mission”1. This study aims to highlight how important it is for the university members to be aware of the evaluation criteria for the research projects they undertake. For this purpose, I have interviewed a number of 55 persons, project managers and team members in the projects from the “Research for Excellency” program and the National Plan of Research, Development and Innovation PN II 2007 – 2013. Out of the evaluation criteria for research, the most important ones were considered to be the scientific quality of the project and the quality of the human resources involved in the project.

Influencing public policy in favor of interest groups can be achieved through advocacy associations legally constituted whose mission is to: promovate professional excellence in the application of advanced practices of advocacy, strengthen civil society participation in development of public policies and continuously develop policies to private firms.. Through advocacy associations can uphold and enforce the values of entrepreneurship and free enterprise. Any resource used in advocacy efforts associations should generate added value and impact, contribute to the progress, development and improved quality of life. Advocacy associations must primarily promotes technical and professional skills of advocacy for any civil society interested group with honesty, dignity, mutual respect, transparency and social responsibility in order to strengthen the system of participatory democracy to which they are signatories.

Abstract A gerontology course related to policies /programs each year researches, develops and designs a service-learning project related to an issue/concern for older adults and their quality of life. Students wanted to work with vulnerable older adults and after research and discussion decided on tackling the issue of food insecurity in older adults. Food insecurity is a growing issue for older adults which has been exasperated by COVID-19. According to Meals on Wheels America (2020) there has been a 22% increase in the number of older adults needing food assistance. In addition, while the need for food banks has increased donations have declined (Next Avenue, 2020). Students partnered with RSVP, which had previously conducted a food donation project.. Students took on the responsibility for advertising, soliciting grocery stores to allow us to set up and engage shoppers in purchasing items for the project. In addition, they reached out to the university community and set up food donation stations. RSVP sent out emails to their constituents to encourage them to volunteer and do their shopping on the date of the project. Students were paired with RSVP volunteers at two stores and provided shopping lists and information about food insecurity in older adults to shoppers. Students collected 566 pounds of food. The food was distributed equally between Catholic Charities, which has a senior shopping program and the Somali Elder Community. Students sorted the food by categories and removed any foods with pork/gelatin products for the Somali Community.

Exploring the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) implies a must for holistic and regulatory approaches to business ethics. Professionals, executives and employees must demonstrate ethical-based behavior in healthcare. So, the first commitment of the nurse must be caring patients, as without caring them, nurses lose their professional identity. As a result, universities should support the teaching of ethics, while stimulating CSR and values derived from practical training. Experience shows that the methodology of “service learning” seeks to promote the committed participation of students in the teaching-learning process, while delivering a quality service to the community. Correctly inserted into an experience-based pedagogical frame, ethics strengthens critical thinking, problem solving, and encourages solidarity.

This paper presents a study of university social responsibility (USR), carried out through an innovative educational action. The students of the studied classrooms in the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) collaborated with a social entity Emmaus Social Foundation dedicated to environmental sustainability, social justice and the social and solidarity economy to provide community services through a service-learning methodology. Using a mixed method approach, we combined the practical experience of the social entity with an active student-centred teaching methodology in order to foster the acquisition of general and specific competencies related to sustainability and social justice. The aim was to create learning connections between members of the university community and links with the environmental and social reality of the Basque Country. This pilot study was carried out in the first term of the 2018–2019 academic year. This work allowed (a) critical knowledge to be generated by incorporating and hybridising discussion elements of social justice, such as sustainability; (b) intergenerational participation processes to be generated between elders, university students and social organisations in order to acquire general and specific learning competencies and (c) social and environmental needs to be addressed through community services.   Keywords: Higher education, intergenerational learning, service-learning, teaching innovation, university social responsibility.
