The duration of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) is a critical factor that determines the duration of treatment. This study aimed to evaluate factors affecting the PTBD duration in patients who underwent percutaneous treatment of common bile duct (CBD) stones. This study analyzed data of 169 patients who underwent percutaneous treatment of CBD stones from June 2009 to June 2019. Demographic data, characteristics of stone, procedure-related factors, and laboratory findings before the insertion of PTBD tubes were retrospectively evaluated. To assess the effect of confounding factors on the PTBD duration, multivariate linear regression analysis was applied, incorporating significant predictive factors identified in the univariate regression analysis. In the univariate regression analysis, the predictive factor that showed high correlation with the PTBD duration was the initial total bilirubin level (coefficient = 0.68, P < .001) followed by the short diameter of the largest stone (coefficient = 0.19, P = .056), and previous endoscopic sphincterotomy (coefficient = -2.50, P = .086). The multivariate linear regression analysis showed that the initial total bilirubin level (coefficient = 0.50, P < .001) and short diameter of the largest stone (coefficient = 0.16, P = .025) were significantly related to the PTBD duration. The total bilirubin level before PTBD tube insertion and the short diameter of the largest CBD stone were predictive factors for the PTBD duration in patients who underwent percutaneous CBD stone removal. Careful assessment of these factors might help in predicting the treatment period, thereby improving the quality of patient care.

Background and Objective: Sorafenib is recommended for treating advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. However, it is frequently discontinued because of adverse events, which greatly affects its therapeutic effects. Furthermore, because patients treated with sorafenib for a long period can presumably tolerate adverse events, this study aimed to identify their characteristics and analyze factors affecting the therapeutic effects of the drug. Subjects and Methods: Seventeen patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who received sorafenib for 12 months or longer at our hospital between January 2009 and October 2015 were included. In these 17 patients, factors affecting the time to untreatable progression were analyzed using a Cox proportional hazards model, Kaplan-Meier curve, and log-rank test. Results: In the 17 patients, the mean sorafenib dose was 433 mg/day. The drug was discontinued in 12 patients, 9 (75%) of whom discontinued it because of progressive disease. The median time to untreatable progression was 23.1 months. The contributors to favorable therapeutic effects included administration of at least two sessions of concomitant therapy after initiating sorafenib therapy, a low neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and a decreased total bilirubin level. Conclusion: Achieving favorable therapeutic effects of sorafenib requires strict dose adjustment that allows better control of adverse events and long-term administration of the drug. Furthermore, combining sorafenib with other therapies, a low neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and a decreased total bilirubin level are useful predictors of favorable effects.

Abstract Background Chemerin a novel adipokine is linked to insulin resistance and adiposity which are major characteristics of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Results Chemerin level was found to be significantly higher in PCOS group than in control group (94.99 ± 12.52 ng/dl vs 73.41 ± 6.95 ng/dl) (P < 0.001) being the highest in obese PCO group, also chemerin positively correlated with BMI, fasting insulin, and HOMA-IR (P < 0.001), Multivariate linear regression analysis for factors affecting chemerin level in both PCO groups showed that the most important factor was fasting insulin (P = 0.042). Conclusion Chemerin correlates with insulin resistance and may be involved in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance in PCOS patients.

The GlycoFibroTest and GlycoCirrhoTest are noninvasive alternatives for liver biopsy that can be used as a follow-up tool for fibrosis patients and to diagnose cirrhotic patients, respectively. These tests are based on the altered N-glycosylation of total serum protein. Our aim was to investigate the impact of etiology on the alteration of N-glycosylation and whether other characteristics of liver patients could have an influence on N-glycosylation. In human liver patients, no specific alteration could be found to make a distinction according to etiological factor, although alcoholic patients had a significant higher mean value for the GlycoCirrhoTest. Undergalactosylation did not show a significantly different quantitative alteration in the cirrhotic and noncirrhotic population of all etiologies. Importantly, patients with an elevation of total bilirubin level (>2 mg/dl) had a strong increase of glycans modified with α1–6 fucose. The fucosylation index was therefore significantly higher in fibrosis/cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma patients with elevated total bilirubin levels irrespective of etiology. Furthermore, in a multiple linear regression analysis, only markers for cholestasis significantly correlated with the fucosylation index. In mouse models of chronic liver disease, the fucosylation index was uniquely significantly increased in mice that were induced with a common bile duct ligation. Mice that were chronically injected with CCl4 did not show this increase. Apart from this difference, common changes characteristic to fibrosis development in mice were observed. Finally, mice induced with a partial portal vein ligation did not show biological relevant changes indicating that portal hypertension does not contribute to the alteration of N-glycosylation.

Background: Serum bilirubin level has been suggested to be associated with mortality for patients with severe sepsis. This study aimed to investigate the association of serum total bilirubin level with hospital mortality rate in adult critically ill patients.Method: Data were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-III (MIMIC-III) database. Patients with measured serum total bilirubin levels that recorded within 24 h after admission were involved in this study. Association of serum total bilirubin level and hospital mortality rate was assessed using logistic regression analysis. Propensity score-matching (PSM) was used to minimize differences between different groups.Results: A total of 12,035 critically ill patients were herein involved. In patients with serum total bilirubin level ≥ 2 mg/dL, the hospital mortality rate was 31.9% compared with 17.0% for patients with serum total bilirubin level &lt; 2 mg/dL (546/1714 vs. 1750/10321, P &lt; 0.001). The results of multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the odds ratio of mortality in patients with serum total bilirubin level ≥ 2 mg/dL was 1.654 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.307, 2.093, P &lt; 0.001]. After propensity score matching, in patients with serum total bilirubin level ≥ 2 mg/dL, the weighted hospital mortality rate was 32.2% compared with 24.8% for patients with serum total bilirubin level &lt; 2 mg/dL, P = 0.001).Conclusions: Serum total bilirubin concentration was found to be independently associated with hospital mortality rate in adult critically ill patients.

There is a lack of evidence about the ways in which balance ability influences the kinematic and kinetic parameters and muscle activities during gait among healthy individuals. The hypothesis is that balance ability would be associated with the lower limb kinematics, kinetics and muscle activities during gait. Twenty-nine healthy volunteers (Age 32.8 ± 9.1; 18 males and 11 females) performed a Star Excursion Balance test to measure their dynamic balance and walked for at least three trials in order to obtain a good quality of data. A Vicon® 3D motion capture system and AMTI® force plates were used for the collection of the movement data. The selected muscle activities were recorded using Delsys® Electromyography (EMG). The EMG activities were compared using the maximum values and root mean squared (RMS) values within the participants. The joint angle, moment, force and power were calculated using a Vicon Plug-in-Gait model. Descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis were performed using SPSS version 23. In the muscle activities, positive linear correlations were found between the walking and balance test in all muscles, e.g., in the multifidus (RMS) (r = 0.800 p < 0.0001), vastus lateralis (RMS) (r = 0.639, p < 0.0001) and tibialis anterior (RMS) (r = 0.539, p < 0.0001). The regression analysis models showed that there was a strong association between balance ability (i.e., reaching distance) and the lower limb muscle activities (i.e., vastus medialis–RMS) (R = 0.885, p < 0.0001), and also between balance ability (i.e., reaching distance) and the lower limb kinematics and kinetics during gait (R = 0.906, p < 0.0001). In conclusion, the results showed that vastus medialis (RMS) muscle activity mainly contributes to balance ability, and that balance ability influences the lower limb kinetics and kinematics during gait.

Purpose: Our aim was to explore the relation between FA and ADC, number and length of the periprostatic neurovascular fibers (PNF) by means of 1.5 T Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) imaging through a multivariate linear regression analysis model. Methods: For this retrospective study, 56 patients (mean age 63.5 years), who underwent 1.5-T prostate MRI, including DTI, were enrolled between October 2014 and December 2018. Multivariate regression analysis was performed to evaluate the statistically significant correlation between FA values (dependent variable) and ADC, the number and the length of PNF (independent variables), if p-value <0.05. A value of 0.5 indicated poor agreement; 0.5–0.75, moderate agreement; 0.75–0.9, good agreement; 0.61–0.80, good agreement; and 0.9–1.00, excellent agreement. Results: The overall fit of the multivariate regression model was excellent, with R2 value of 0.9445 ( R2 adjusted 0.9412; p < 0.0001). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed a statistically significant correlation ( p < 0.05) for all the three independent variables. The r partial value was −0.9612 for ADC values ( p < 0.0001), suggesting a strong negative correlation, 0.4317 for the number of fiber tracts ( p < 0.001), suggesting a moderate positive correlation, and −0.306 for the length of the fiber tracts ( p < 0.05), suggesting a weak negative correlation. Conclusions: Our multivariate linear regression model has demonstrated a statistically significant correlation between FA values of PNF with other DTI parameters, in particular with ADC.

This study studies to analyze the factors that influence general suppliers to choose FFB (Fresh Fruit Bunches) on quality and quality B and calculate the business expenses to be received. This research was conducted in the period August - September 2018 at PT. Sandabi Indah Lestari (SIL). The analytical tool used in this study is multiple linear regression analysis and risk analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, the factors that influence general suppliers choose to sell FFB at quality A and quality B at PT. SIL is the average factor of the weight of FFB supplied, the weight of FFB sorted, the distance to the plant and transportation costs, while the factors that do not significantly affect the long period of receiving FFB at the plant then for the risks received are known that the risk of selling FFB quality A is greater because of loss while FFB that sells quality B is smaller because it avoids losses.Keyword: Suppliers, FFB (Fresh Fruit Bunches), quality A and B, risk

<p>This study examines the factors that affect the company's capability to perform integrated reporting. The analysis used in testing the hypothesis is multiple linear regression analysis. Results show that company’s size has positive and significant connection and stakeholder’s pressure has negative and significant connection with the company’s capability in performing integrated reporting. In contrast, level of company’s profitability, company’s managerial ownership, and company’s institutional ownership did not have enough connection with company’s capability in performing integrated reporting.</p><p> </p>

The objective of the chapter is to examine the factors that are essential for the green purchase behavior among the young consumers in India. The study consists of 343 young respondents, who were surveyed with the help of structured measurement instrument. The sample has been analyzed with the help of exploratory factor analysis and linear regression analysis. It was found in the study that the awareness towards the green product, attitude towards eco-labeling, and satisfaction via green products are significantly and positively linked to the green purchase behavior, whereas the attitude towards green pricing and ecologically concerned consumers are not associated with the green purchase behavior.
