Abstract Background A niche in the uterus, present in 60% of women after caesarean section (CS), is associated with several gynaecological symptoms and possibly with subfertility. Studies that focus on quality of life (QoL) in relation to a niche are lacking. Purpose To identify niche-related outcomes that influence QoL and to compare patient-reported outcomes with outcomes studied in the literature. Methods Two focus group discussions (FGDs, N = 8 and 5) were conducted in Amsterdam UMC—location VUmc. Participants were Dutch patients with a large niche, with (planned) surgical treatment for their symptoms. Niche-related symptoms and impact on functioning or participation were fixed topics. The transcripts of the FGDs were coded into outcomes, themes and domains of QoL according to the WHOQOL model. Additionally, participants created a top five important outcomes. Next, we performed a systematic review (SR) on niche-related outcomes and compared the FGDs with niche-related outcomes from the SR. Results In four domains (physical health, psychological domain, social relationships and environment), fifteen themes were reported in the FGDs. Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), subfertility, sexual activity, abdominal pain and self-esteem were themes prioritised by participants. In the literature, gynaecological symptoms and reproductive outcomes were predominantly studied. Sexuality and self-esteem were prioritised in the FGDs but hardly or never studied in the literature. Conclusion We found a broad range of niche-related outcomes influencing QoL. Apart from symptoms evaluated in the literature such as AUB, abdominal pain and subfertility, clinicians and researchers should be more aware of sexual activity and self-esteem in this population.

ABSTRACTIntroduction:The onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD) affects couples’ relationship. We investigated the perception of change and sexual satisfaction in spouse-caregivers and their partners diagnosed with AD.Methods:We compared 74 dyads of people with Alzheimer's disease (PwAD)/spouse-caregivers and 21 elderly dyads control. We assessed sexual satisfaction with Questionnaire on Sexual Experience and Satisfaction (QSES), cognition using a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), disease severity using a Clinical Dementia Rating scale (CDR), awareness of disease with Assessment Scale of Psychosocial Impact of the Diagnosis of Dementia (ASPIDD), functionality with Pfeffer Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ), depressive symptoms with Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia (CSDD), quality of life using a Quality of Life in Alzheimer's Disease Scale (QoL-AD), and burden using a Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI).Results:We found differences between the perception and no perception of change in sexual activity of PwAD (p < 0.001), spouse-caregivers (p < 0.01), and controls (p < 0.05). Moderate to severe sexual dissatisfaction was observed in 36.5% of PwAD, 65% of spouse-caregivers, and 31% of controls. PwAD sexual satisfaction was related to cognitive impairment (p < 0.05). Spouse-caregivers sexual satisfaction was related to gender (p < 0.05) and the presence of sexual activity (p < 0.001).Conclusions:The perception of change with higher sexual dissatisfaction, were significant in PwAD and their spouse-caregivers, in comparison with couples of elderly without dementia.

Background: Patients with strabismus often suffer from several psychosocial and emotional consequences. Strabismus surgery address both the functional and psychosocial complaints as both these parameters affect patients' quality of health. Aims &objectives: To assess change in quality of life after surgical correction Methodology: This prospective study was conducted among 50 patients who underwent strabismus surgery at the Ophthalmology Department of Dr. M.K. Shah Medical College and Research Centre, Ahmedabad. Information regarding selfesteem, self-condence, self-assessment of intelligence, effect on employment options, and interpersonal relationships. Quality of life was measured through SF-8 questionnaire. Assessment was done preoperatively and at three months after surgery for any change in these parameters. Results: Mean age of 37.2 ± 10.2 years were enrolled. About 58.0% were female. Only 5 out of 50 (10.0%) experienced preoperative diplopia. Majority of the patients responded that strabismus caused embarrassment (86.0%), trouble in eye contact (86.0%), negative self-esteem (80.0%), camouage (70.0%). After surgery, 49 (98.0%) patients were satised. Improvement in self-esteem, ability to meet new people, relationship and employment, were reported by 43 (86.0%), 31 (62.0%), 12 (24.0%) and 5 (10.0%) and patients. SF-8 scores subscales (except bodily pain, vitality, role emotional subscales) were statistically signicant differences (P<0.05). The average postoperative utility value was 0.86 ± 0.23 with gain of 0.12 ± 0.14 gain. Conclusion: Patients with strabismus have psychosocial difculties. Strabismus corrective surgery causes signicant psychosocial and functional benets and improve the quality of life.

e20666 Background: Cervical cancer (CxCa) and prostate cancer (PRCa) have a major impact on sexuality, quality of life (QoL) and patients (pts) require social support(SS). Study aim was to compare sexual satisfaction and activity,QoL and level of required and received SS in group of CxCa and PRCa pts min.3 months after radical radiotherapy (RTH). Methods: 97pts were included to the study:50 non-metastatic PRCa pts (54-83y, M=68,8) and47 CxCa pts (27-69y,M=54,4) after RTH. Subjects filled out:QLQ-C30,PR25,CX24, Berlin Social Support Scales (BSSS) and demographic data. The Chi2,t-Student test, and linear regression analyses were used (p<0,5). Results: However sexual activity and satisfaction in both cancer groups is significantly lower (p<0,05) than in healthy population, no differences were observed between CxCa and PRCa pts. No difference were found between general and any subscale of QoL in both groups, although men needed significantly more help with eating, dressing, washing or using the toilet. However, men felt less male than women less feminine because of cancer (p<0,001). Predictors to better femininity evaluation (R2=0,650;p<0,05)were: higher appetite, emotional functioning, perceived available instrumental support and marital status. Predictors of poor masculinity evaluation (R2=0,346;p<0,05)were: shortness of breath, age, lower perceived available emotional support. The most significant differences (p<0,05) were observed between groups in the evaluation of SS: perceived available emotional SS was higher in pts with CxCa than with PRCa, while protective-buffering SS, currently received emotional SS and general SS were higher in the group of PRCa than CxCa pts. Conclusions: QoL was similar in both groups, in some areas men needed more help that women. Sexual activity and satisfaction is lower in cancer pts in comparison with general population, but no differences were observed between CxCa and PRCa pts, however emotional SS was crucial for better sexual satisfaction. The more visible difference were found in SS, and even men with PRCa have been receiving more SS,women with CxCa perceived particular SS higher than in fact such support had experienced.

Background: The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients oftentimes suffer from both physical and psychosocial challenges that may lead to low health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, limited research has been done in this area. Objective: To examined mental health status and HRQoL among SLE patients in Thailand. Materials and Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study conducted at the rheumatology clinic of four major hospitals in Thailand. The paper-based questionnaire consisted of demographic, health history such as depression, anxiety, stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSE), and the disease-specific Lupus Quality of Life scale (LupusQoL). Depending on the variable’s level of measurement such as categorical or continuous, Spearman’s Rho or Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficients were used to explore the relationships among the variables. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to identify the predictors of LupusQoL. Results: Among the 387 participants, many might have experienced depression, anxiety, and stress (30%, 51%, and 29%, respectively). Self-esteem among the participants was good (31.8 out of 40). All eight domains of LupusQoL were affected with intimate relationship domain being impacted the most. The overall LupusQoL was significantly associated with the number of prescribed medications (r=–0.23), depression (r=–0.70), anxiety (r=–0.58), stress (r=–0.67), and self-esteem (r=0.59), p<0.001. Significant predictors of the overall LupusQoL were mental health status (depression, anxiety, and stress) and self-esteem, F (3, 81)=43.10, p<0.001, adjusted R²=0.60. Conclusion: SLE patients should be holistically assessed in both physical and psychological aspects. In addition to proper medical treatments, healthcare providers should use a multidisciplinary team approach to resolve the patients’ psychosocial issues, which in turn, may increase the patients’ quality of life. Self-care education may be necessary to help the patients manage the condition and decrease the number of medications. Keywords: Mental health, Quality of life, SLE, Thailand
