This article presents a study of the skills of Libyan and Turkish students in their quadratic word problems based on SOLO Taxonomy. The research model used in this study is a case study. The participants were 27 students at a high school in Kastamonu, Turkey and were 27 students at a high school in the city of Tripoli, Libya. The data were obtained by thinking test consisting of three problems. The test was applied to the students in the spring semester of 2017-2018 academic year. Overall, the results showed that Turkish students had multiple structural levels of 48.15% and relational structural levels of 10.37%, which is considered a good ratio, and were better than Libyan students with multiple structural levels of 21.50% and relational-structural levels of 9.00%. This shows that the majority of Turkish students participating in the study may be successful in moving advanced thinking levels in these problems. On the other hand, there are students who cannot answer the problems as well as pre-structural and uni-structural students. Some of the reasons why these students’ levels are low may be misinterpretation of the problem, difficulty in understanding word problems and turning them into mathematical symbols, and negligence.

This study was designed as a case study. The study was conducted in Anatolian Fine Arts High School during the spring semester of 2014-2015 academic year. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 10 students from 9th and 10th grades who voluntarily participated in the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the 10 students named at the end of every activity. Assure instructional design model was used while designing digital storytelling activities. The data obtained from the study were analyzed through thematic analysis based on qualitative research method. Reliability method suggested by Miles and Huberman was used for reliability assessment of the study. The reliability of the thematic coding of the results was found to be 0,95 as a result of assessments. Based on the findings that digital storytelling has multidisciplinary interaction competence, it is thought that it will be appropriate to conduct future studies in different schools and fields.

This article aims to reveal the historical roots and patterns of the fundamentalism movement among students in the City of Kediri. This article is based on the field a qualitative case study. Fundamentalism is a movement that is very close to radicalism. However, the spread of fundamentalism was also found in educational institutions. This article concludes that after going through a series of in-depth studies, this article concludes that historically it cannot be found when this fundamentalism movement began to spread in State Senior High School 1 (SMAN) and State Senior High School 2 (SMAN) Kediri. What is found is that there are Islamic study activities that have allegedly been around since the school began operating. Both in SMAN 1 and SMAN 2 Kediri, no definitive clue was given as to when the spread of the religious fundamentalism movement began. The fundamentalist movement patterns in SMAN 1 and SMAN 2 Kediri City have similarities, namely through Islamic study activities. In SMAN 1, Kediri City, there are SKI activities. Meanwhile, at SMAN 2 Kediri, there were a number of activities, such as PETUAH (Saturday Sunday Pesantren) BAO, Mabīt (the night of devotion), and Aqidah. There is also the At-Tholab association (a collection of several schools). Some of these activities are a forum for the spread of Islamic religious fundamentalism, which is claimed to teach Islamic teaching in accordance with the Qur’an and Hadīth.

Steve Sommers has taught high school physical education for 16 years, and in that time he has learned much about the demands that teachers face in public schools. This study examined how Steve constructed the knowledge necessary to meet those demands. Specifically, this study sought to describe the sources and processes used in making pedagogical decisions. Data were collected over one academic year using life history and ethnographic techniques. Data analysis entailed reducing data to themes and categories that identified the specific sources of knowledge and how Steve used those sources in his teaching. Steve relied upon four primary knowledge sources: community, school, profession, and biography. These sources provided Steve with the expectations for his teaching and the limits of his responsibilities. Further, these sources provided the raw information that Steve translated into classroom practices. A dialectic tension existed between Steve and his occupational environment that shaped and gave status to his professional service.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to describe the practice of using student technology teams (STTs) offered at a high school within a 1:1 district. Design/methodology/approach This qualitative case study (Merriam, 1998, 2009) documents how an STT program functioned in 2015-2016 academic year. Findings Findings show the STT provided a rich and authentic learning opportunity for students interested in information technology. The district benefits greatly through both cost savings and personnel support related to its 1:1 initiative. Originality/value As there is no current research on K-12 STTs, this study serves as a foundation for a practice that is growing within schools.
