The HERO project aims to develop a training program for caregivers to be working in the elderly care sector. The program is particularly addressed to caregivers from Middle Eastern and African countries as refugees and intends to help them integrate into European society. This paper seeks to offer an overview of the project, including its objectives, underlying principles, and deliverables. The paper particularly portrays the second intellectual output (O2) of the project, namely the ‘On the job’ training in language and terminology curriculum, which has been developed as the end product of O2. Initially, the methodology adopted to create learning material for language learning in a specific-purpose context is analyzed. Based on this, the paper provides a description of the content development by justifying and showcasing the learning material and laying out the logic behind this, through the trainers’ guide. E-learning tools have been integrated in the course material, which also justifies the methodology applied for the purpose of this project.

The aim of the research is to present an interest of young people in giving help to the elderly through institutional and non-institutional care. We live in a time when global and consequently also Slovenian society became strongly aware of importance of the elderly as one of its consisting part. So, it has to be stressed that additional study programmes should be introduced which will bring education in various fields of social gerontology. This need was particularly emphasized during the COVID-19 epidemic, when all homes for the elderly faced the lack of trained staff. The aim of the paper is examination of a topic summarized in a questionnaire which was used to find out how well present and future students know problems of older people and their ways of life. We also asked them, whether they would be willing to dedicate their professional career to dealing with ageing population. We realised that young people know that work with the elderly is strenous. They are acquainted with problems of ageing and ways of older people living. Furthermore, they are aware that dealing with the elderly requires much benevolence, empathy and personal respect to other people. It is recommended that offer of education in a field of elderly care gets improved and upgraded. It would lead to a higher number of young people who would decide to enrol into educational programmes of social gerontology.

This chapter focuses on the interrelations that interleave education, technology, content accessibility, and intercultural issues. With an introduction and related background, language learning is used as an example further to explain these issues. This chapter then discusses authoring and content development for e-learning applications (including authoring tools, virtual communities, and forums), and examines technology and accessibility issues in this context. The current state of e-learning is introduced along with a description of different tools and approaches. The chapter concludes with an overview of e-learning and the marketplace.

This study investigates Japanese EFL learners’ attitudes and preferences towards textbooks and web-based materials in a blended learning context. Sixty-four undergraduate students of a two-semester English course were asked to complete a questionnaire, which was designed to measure their satisfaction with each type of learning material and their motivation and autonomy in learning English, especially in grammar practice. The results revealed that a greater number of students preferred web-based materials to paper-based ones. Additionally, the results of SEM analysis indicate that learner satisfaction with e-learning materials has a positive effect on their attitudes towards self-study. However, students who preferred textbooks appreciated their advantages, such as the ability to take handwritten notes and the ease of understanding grammar points with face-to-face feedback. Therefore, the findings suggest that a well-balanced blend of materials may meet a wide variety of learners’ needs and promote positive attitudes towards autonomous language learning.

Improvements in dedicated e-learning tools and the new insights provided by CALL research are at the core of a new course for Business Language. The course incorporates an innovative eLearning template as the key element of its main mode of delivery. A number of authoring tools have been integrated in order to provide a userfriendly, flexible and effective online learning medium for both teachers and learners. This paper describes the background for the design of the course and discusses the needs it aims to meet. The study also outlines the objectives informing the development of the eLearning template and examines the main features and parameters of the pilot module developed in order to test this template within a blended learning setting. Finally, the paper addresses the issues encountered during the pilot trial and the main
findings from the student feedback.

Abstract Background According to the Digital Agenda for Europe (2014 - 2020) enhancing digital literacy, skills and inclusion is one of the main priorities. All European elderly people must become e-seniors as soon as possible. On the hand, active ageing means that senior citizens activate themselves in order to be as independent as possible. As a result, triggering these new digital tools and ICT skills can assist the elderly to be a more integrated part of our society. The Erasmus+ Proadas project promotion of Active Digital Ageing Skills aims at tackling the gap between ageing population and digital literacy and strengthening and reinforcing the stakeholders, experts and practitioners, by identifying the needs of elderly people and their carers regarding technology. Methods The study was conducted in January 2019 in all six countries participating in the Proadas project. 35 carers and their assigned seniors were selected via convenience sampling by a minimum of three best practices- centres of excellence per country. A twelve-question close format questionnaire was developed, using a Delphi approach and completed by all participants. All data was analysed using SPPS 20. Results A total of 188 responders from all six countries agreed to participate response rate 89.5% of which 51.5% women. Age varied significantly between 20-75 years. Regarding existing ICT skills participants in all countries were familiar with basic use of computer and internet but very few used advance services. There was unanimous agreement that learning is facilitatedwith the help of family or friends. A combination of traditional and digital learning format was deemed most appropriate. The main obstacles involved lack of trainers, motivation and suitable educators. Conclusions There is latent need for the integration of ICT in elderly care. The development of suitable learning material and the involvement of motivated carers are key strategies for the successful implementation of such a reform. Key messages ICT is insufficiently used for elderly health education. Digital health can be beneficial for the elderly and their carers.

Population aging is a nearly universal trend that is placing new importance on how societies view and treat their elderly. Past research has established that perceptions of the elderly vary across countries. This article empirically explores three competing theoretical explanations on potential reasons for these differences: the Value Orientation perspective, the Competition over Resources perspective, and Political and Economic Structure. Using Wave 6 of the World Values Survey, various sources of country-level data, and hierarchical logistic regressions the article provides insights as to which theoretical position holds the most weight. The analysis improves on past research by using a large and diverse sample of countries from every region of the world. Contrary to popular thought, and the traditional Value Orientation perspective, it is found that Asian, Middle Eastern, and Sub-Saharan African countries have significantly more negative views toward the elderly than Western countries. In addition, the study finds that countries with higher average lifespans and more elderly as a proportion of the total population actually have more favorable attitudes toward the elderly.
