Problem and goal. Despite a significant amount of work on the creation of electronic textbooks, interest in them does not wane. Currently, when developing them, it becomes necessary to take into account the features of the Z generation. The purpose of the study is a didactic analysis and description of the concept of transformer books and an inverted textbook. Methodology. The idea of creating such intellectual teaching aids is associated with the use of mental schemes of the subject area, hidden psychoanalysis of the perception type of the learner and the question-task form of training. The textbooks being designed provide for a change in the learning strategy (from the paradigm accumulating knowledge to solve problems to the paradigm solving problems by mastering the necessary knowledge). In this case, the educational model of the white box is used, which allows visualizing the dynamics of the acquisition by student the knowledge of the subject area. Results. A procedure for developing inverted textbooks and transformer books is proposed. Prototypes of such electronic tools when used in a real educational process have shown their high effectiveness in self-educational activities of students. Conclusion. The use of transformational and inverted electronic textbooks allows not only to automate the learning process without real contact with the teacher, but also contributes to a significant increase in the motivation of modern students to self-study. The materials of the article are of practical value for developers of e-learning tools, as well as teachers who prefer to use innovative teaching methods.

The COVID-19 outbreak quickly demonstrates the importance of adopting online education in teaching and learning. It has forced education systems worldwide to find alternatives to face-to-face interactions. Language instructors have made attempts to explore and utilise e-learning tools to enrich their teaching and assist learners in improving their language learning. This paper, therefore, attempts to shed light on the effectiveness of adopting e-learning tools in ESL speaking class and their perception of it. Fifty-three pre-university students from the Foundation Programme of the Preparatory Centre for Science and Technology were involved in this study. Data analysed in this paper were derived from a threaded online discussion via Dotstorming. The structured interview questions were carefully designed based on the objectives to elicit the students’ opinions on the topic of interest. To explore the effectiveness of e-learning in developing the students’ speaking skills, scores of Individual Speaking Assessment and Group Speaking Assessment of each student were collected. These assessments were marked based on the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) Speaking Rubric – Task Fulfilment, Language, and Communicative Ability. The findings show that the adoption of technology in ESL speaking classes improves the students’ speaking abilities. The thematic analysis also shows that the use of e-learning tools in language learning received positive feedbacks from the students, suggesting it would be a promising virtual platform to improve the student's confidence, knowledge, and language.

The literature on students registered in the Open Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) institutions suggests many obstacles related to their summative-driven assessments, which give insufficient time for study, difficulties in access and use of innovative assessment tools, ineffective feedback, and lack of feedback of study materials. These challenges lead students to learn just enough to get grades without understanding the topics or acquiring knowledge and skills. On the other hand, massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) give students, who have to fulfil multiple roles and are affected by the barriers of distance, cost and time, an opportunity to pursue their studies online. This chapter employed humanistic learning theory (HLT) to present a variety of digital teaching and learning tools that enable assessment suitable for a large number of students in the ODeL MOOCs. Humanistic learning theory emphasises a shift towards considering students, their characteristics, and their influence on learning. In addressing the gap created by assessments that were not focused on the specific human capabilities, including creativity, personal growth, and choice, this chapter first presents principles of HLT linking them with the form of assessments in MOOCs. Secondly, the ways to assess a large number of students in ODeL MOOCs are outlined. Lastly, various digital tools that can assess a large number of students are discussed, considering students as sources of authority.

In the context of the transition to the updated content of education, the development and implementation of electronic learning tools in computer science is becoming more relevant than ever. The lack of e-learning tools, developed in full accordance with modern requirements, a variety of software tools and shells to create them, requiring a developer of different levels of training in the use of software, has necessitated a more detailed review and analysis of the problem of development and implementation in the educational process by teachers author's e-learning products. The article identifies the main advantages and disadvantages of some software tools for the development of electronic textbooks. The ArticulateStoryline program is singled out as one of the most effective modern software tools for the development of electronic textbooks in secondary schools. А сomparative analysis of software is carried out on a number of criteria: simplicity and usability, available in ready-made templates, the ability to work with layers, create test items, an opportunity to build ready graphics, video and sound files, the possibility of placing on a single slide multi-page text. The features of the Articulate Storyline program are presented in more detail. The possibility of using this software tool is noted, both by an ordinary user through the use of ready-made templates, and by a more advanced professional through the capabilities of the built-in JavaScript programming language. The program features are presented on the example of the development of an electronic textbook on computer science for the 4th grade. The result of the implementation of the capabilities of the software tool was the development of an electronic textbook, which reflects such features of Articulate Storyline as the use of a set of ready-made characters, the ZoomPicture function, the insertion of video files, a variety of interactive tasks organized through the use of Hotspot slides and SequenceDrag-and-Drop. The electronic textbook provides independent cognitive activity of students, increasing the level of their motivation in learning, ensuring self-control.

The article represents the results of the survey conducted among the group of university and high school teachers to establish the specific tendencies in online language teaching and learning within the COVID 19-affected environment. The study hypothesis presupposed verification of the thesis that language learning needs adjustment to new circumstances. During 2020-2021, the major platform adopted by Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University has been MS Office. It provided the participants of learning process with necessary tools such as calendar planning, lecture and seminar moderation, data submission and storage as well as assessment options and statistics. Incorporating the platform required tutorials for teachers since there were certain issues with registration and running the MS Office programme on various gadgets. At the initial stages alternatives were allowed to be used for online classes. The survey was conducted and analysed by means of quantitative and descriptive methods and on the basis of continuous academic discussions. It was concluded that the teachers treated the challenges of new learning environment differently. Namely, the respondents were invited to rate the general effectiveness of constant online language or language related subject learning, characterise institutional support, specify the prioritised digital platform and share feedback regarding their satisfaction with the educational process within late 2020 – first half of 2021. The majority of the respondents denoted the satisfactory effectiveness of online English language system. The educational institution was reported to provide sufficient support on distant learning platforms. Roughly one third of the answers pointed at the use of several distant learning platforms. Zoom has been defined as the main teachers’ preference probably due to simplicity of installation and running flexibility on various gadgets for both sides. The most burning issues of online learning during the COVID-19 period were associated with internet connection and access.
