It has been installed that the species richness of the blackflies of the north-eastern macroslope of the Ukrainian Carpathians counts 38 species of 2 genera: Prosimulium Roubaud, 1906 (2 species) and Simulium Latreille, 1802 (36 species). 20 species develop in the streams (Simpson's species diversity index (Іs) equals to 0,22), and 26 species develop in the rivers (Іs – 0,10). There are 8 common species of Simuliidae for both types of watercourses (similarity index by Czekanowski/Sørensen (І) is 0,26). 12 species of blackflies develop only in the streams, and 18 species develop only in the rivers. S. trifasciatum Curtis, 1839, S. reptanoides Carlsson, 1962, S. ornatum Meigen, 1818 and S. intermedium Roubaud, 1906 dominate in the hydrobiocenoses of the north-eastern macroslope of the Ukrainian Carpathians. S. trifasciatum and S. ornatum are widespread. It has been discovered that Simuliidae fauna of main altitudinal zonal plant groups of the region differs in composition and quantitative correlation of species. S. intermedium, S. ornatum, S. reptans Linnaeus, 1758 and S. trifasciatum are eurytopic. In the hydrobiocenoses of the district of beech forests has been registered 31 species (Is – 0.09), and in the watercourses of the district of spruce mountain Carpathian forests has been registered 24 species (Is – 0.18). It has been found out that with the decrease of height in the district of the beech forests, the value of Simpson's species diversity index decreases from 0.16 (20 species) in the subdistrict of the dark-coniferous-beech watershed forests to 0.11 (21 species) in the subdistrict of fir-beech and beech-fir precarpathian forests.

The cave ecosystem has a unique environment because it receives minimal sunlight and does not even get sunlight at all. Dark conditions in the cave will affect producers such as periphyton algae that live in rivers in caves that need sunlight for photosynthesis. This study aims to determine the periphyton community structure in the river in the Batu Asahan Cave in Sumpur Kudus, Sijunjung District, West Sumatra. This research held in August 2016. The research was carried out by survey method at 3 stations: bright, dim and dark zones. The results showed that periphyton were found as many as 22 species classified as Bacillariophycea 13 species, Cyanophyceae 5 species, Chlorophyceae and Euglenophyceae each of 2 species. Based on the number of individuals Bascillariophyceae 67.0%, Cyanophyceae 24.49%, Chlorophyceae 4.79% and Euglenophyceae 3.72%. Population density in each zone was low, ranges from 1.26 - 2.82 ind / cm2. The dominant species vary in each zone which is the highest shown by Synedra ulna (Bacillariophyceae) and Oscillatoria tenuis (Cyanophyceae). Diversity index ranging from 2.11-2.47 is not significantly different between zones, indicating the quality of clean water. The equitability index was high (E = 0.88-0.96) show the populations in the community evenly. Similarity index between zones was low (C = 25 - 56%). Fisicochemical factors of water indicate the quality of clean water supports the life of periphyton algae in the river.

Three different habitats: secondary forest, acacia plantation, and mixed forests on limestone, were chosen to determine and compare the ant species diversity in these habitats. A total of 24 identified species and 11 morphology species belonging to 20 genera in seven subfamilies were collected using pitfall traps from June 2014 to May 2015. The Shannon-Wiener’s species diversity index indicated that the diversity was the highest in the acacia plantation (2.08), followed by the secondary forest (1.99) and lowest in the mixed forests on limestone (1.83). There are three dominant species in the habitat (I), Pheidole noda, Odontomachus cf. monticola, and Odontoponera denticulate; four dominant species in the habitat (II), Odontoponera denticulata, Carebara diversa, Technomyrmex brunneus and Anoplolepis gracilipes; and only one dominant species in the habitat (III), Anoplolepis gracilipes. The species similarity (S) relatively low may be because of the difference vegetation and condition in the three habitats.
