The development of information through social media gave birth to the phenomenon of decrease quality information with easy spread of hoaxes. This research analyzes the formation collaboration of the fact check team from several elements of the media community such as the Indonesian online Media Association (AMSI), the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), the Indonesian Anti-Defamation Society (Mafindo), and 24 mainstream online medias in Indonesia during the 2019 Presidential Election news. This reserch argues that the collaboration is a diffusion of innovation over the changing digital culture system of Indonesian society. Seeing this phenomenon, this article argues the importance of collaborative innovation among elements of mass media in strengthening mass media institutions as a gatekeeper for reliable information sources and media literacy amid the rapid development of digital news and newsrooms. This qualitative research aims to remind the importance of media activists to continue collaborating in innovation digital space such as the fact check team activities to increase media literacy in the disruption era. The conclusion of this research states that process diffusion of innovation of collaborating fact checking by the media community has changed journalist work to do high quality logic of journalism. Media innovation that promotes data journalism is a main foundation for combating hoax in the digital media in order to establish democratic public sphare.

As an ethnic group, Samin community has values and rules that differ to the dominant Indonesian culture. Negative stereotypes that are embedded in the word of Samin has made the community prefer to be called as Sedulurur Sikep. In Baturejo village, a village that has a large number of Sedulur Sikep, the monograph data shows that 70.74 percent of the population does not attend junior high school. The data indicates that many members of the population do not fully participate in formal education. On the other hand, the data also signifies that the community has in a way exposed to an outside (formal) mode of education particularly at the level of elementary school. The similar phenomenon also occurs in the terms of digital media. Some of the Sikep community have consumed mass media, even though the way they perceive mass media differ to that of the dominant culture. Thus, it is necessary to conduct a media literacy education to Sikep society icluding digital media literacy. The media education have to be adapted to local thinking and understanding of the media’s contents. The result of media literacy observation indicates that, while still maintaining its cultural values, Sikep community does not become completely exclusive to digital media exposures. Communication activities that are using mobile phones can be found in their daily lives.They also interact with those who have different cultural backgrounds with them. The mobile phone has become a relatively prominent gadget in the society. Therefore, the Sikep community is vulnerable to the various contents of messages offered by the media.

A study of digital news on public libraries is presented through media mapping and a thematic and consumption analysis based on Facebook interactions. A total of 7,629 digital news items published in 2019 have been considered. The media mapping includes the evolution of the volume of news publications, the most prominent media outlets and journalists, and the sections in which most news items are published. For the thematic and consumption analysis, the top 250 news items with the highest number of Facebook interactions are considered, defining 15 thematic categories. The most published topics include: new libraries and spaces, collections, and libraries from a historical perspective. The topics that generate the most interactions are the value of libraries (social, human, and cultural capital), libraries from other countries, and new libraries and spaces. The value and originality of the current study lie in the measurement of the consumption of news and digital media through Facebook interactions. The methods used and results obtained also provide new knowledge for the disciplines of Communication and Media Studies by developing the idea of media mapping for its application to other topics and media in future work, as well as for Librarianship, particularly the information obtained on public libraries. Resumen Se presenta un estudio de noticias digitales sobre bibliotecas públicas en España mediante un mapeo de medios y un análisis temático y de consumo basado en las interacciones en Facebook. Se han considerado 7.629 noticias publicadas en 2019. El mapeo de medios incluye la evolución del volumen de la publicación de noticias, los medios y periodistas más prominentes, y las secciones en las que más se publica. Para el análisis temático y de consumo se consideran las 250 noticias con mayores interacciones en Facebook definiendo 15 categorías temáticas. Los temas sobre los que más se publica son: nuevas bibliotecas y espacios, la colección y las bibliotecas desde la perspectiva de su historia. Los que más interacciones y consumo generan son: el valor de las bibliotecas (capital social, humano y cultural), bibliotecas de otros países y las nuevas bibliotecas y espacios. El valor y la originalidad del estudio consisten en considerar las interacciones en Facebook como medida del consumo de noticias y medios digitales. Los métodos y resultados alcanzados aportan además nuevo conocimiento para dos disciplinas: la comunicación y los medios de comunicación, por el desarrollo de la idea del mapeo de medios que puede aplicarse a otros temas y medios en futuros trabajos; y para la biblioteconomía y la documentación, por la información alcanzada sobre las bibliotecas públicas.

Mass media and society, a popular concept in media studies, has constituted much discourse due to roles media play in society and perceived effects that can result thereof. This chapter is inspired by the term ‘medicalization of the society' whereby ailments are regarded as medical issues and subjected to medical diagnosis and treatment, regardless of their true causes. Similarly, the violence, moral decadence and ethno-religious crises witnessed in the society are largely ascribed to the media. This chapter examined the said effects of mass media with society's social systems, cultures and values, with a view to finding a relationship. It argues that these societal makeups especially ones as formidable as Africa's also affect largely members' conducts and reactions to media contents. However, it advocates children's news segment, adherence to media ethics, and use of media programmes to enhance learning, proper socialization, abolishment of negative cultures, media literacy among others.

We are entering into a milieu which makes the global world look much smaller because of digital communications and technologies. More recently, there has also been a coming together of participants from the media world such as those in cinema and animation with those from the technology sectors. This partnership forms what we now know as interactive and digital media (or IDM). In this chapter, the authors aim to articulate the importance of IDM literacies in relation to the 21st century. They attempt to clarify the distinctions between ICT (information and communications technology) and IDM, and from their analysis, they propose a matrix integrating both.

Although anthropologists have long addressed topics related to media and communications technologies, some have argued that a truly institutionalized commitment to the anthropology of media has only developed within the past twenty years. This might be due, at least in part, to a traditional disciplinary emphasis on “primitive” communities lacking the ostensible features of modernity, including electronic forms of mass mediation. Thick description, a central aim of ethnography as touted by Clifford Geertz, was historically geared toward small-scale societies and precluded the study of contemporary forms of mass media in modern life. However, anthropologists have begun to develop productive ways of including mass mediation into their ethnographic accounts. Indeed, it is becoming increasingly difficult to talk about cultural practices at all without some nod to the ubiquity of global media. From an anthropological perspective, it is important to consider varying cultural contexts of mass-media production, consumption, and interpretation. And this begs a question that several anthropologists have begun to answer. What is the most appropriate way to study “the media” as a cultural phenomenon? Content analyses of media texts? The measuring and identifying of media’s social effects and influence? Ethnographic studies of “reception” and “production”? Or something else entirely? Anthropologists engage in all of these and more. Additionally, new questions are emerging about how anthropology might best address digital media and online communities. There are multiple ways in which anthropologists have engaged with “the media” both as a tool of representation and an object of study. To outline some of those ways, it makes sense to provide a history of developments in the field, summarizing several thematic topics that have recently been of central focus to anthropologists of media, including religion, globalization, and nationalism. It also makes sense to think about approaches to studying mass media that other disciplines deploy—disciplines that are in conversation with anthropologists on this subject, including and especially media studies, communications studies, and cultural studies. The categorical divisions here attempt to reflect anthropology’s historical commitments to various analytical, thematic, and medium-based modes of inquiry.

Today’s societies live in a world where the media construct reality, which also affects each individual media user. Children and their parents spend most of their time with digital media and contents. Therefore, researchers emphasize the importance of digital literacy of media users. They analyse new phenomena, challenges and risks associated with the anthropological, cognitive and social development of children and young people. An important role in media and digital education is played not only by teachers and schools, but also by parents and family. The aim of this paper is to present and analyse the theoretical approaches to digital media literacy, so-called digital parenting, and to interpret the results of the latest research in Croatia devoted to the digital habits of parents, their attitudes towards parental mediation strategies as well as to their satisfaction with the programmes of media literacy in the education system.

The scientific article contains a survey on digital media literacy of Universitas Airlangga students which was conducted with the aim of knowing the understanding of students from all universities in Indonesia regarding digital media, and to find out how high the individual level of competence of students in Indonesia is in digital media literacy, as well as to find out the factors what influences the level of competent individuals regarding digital media literacy. This research was conducted using a descriptive survey method and using descriptive statistical data analysis techniques to analyze the research data. The results of the study revealed that: 1). The understanding of students in Indonesia regarding digital literacy is in the medium category, 2). The competent individual level of Indonesian students in digital media literacy is at the basic level, 3). The factors that influence the level of competent individuals related to digital media literacy are mainly family environmental factors.

The rapid development of digital technology has created a variety of forms of digital media. In these emerging media, with the support of high-performance computers, increasingly dynamic performance has become possible, and the public has cultivated a preference for dynamic content cognition. This study, based on the basic characteristics of visual perception to the cognition of motion form, aims to cultivate the cognitive literacy of pan-digital media with innovative concepts and entrepreneurship education and to explore the cognition and innovative expression methods of dynamic language in digital design. The research leads the static oriented morphological exploration and expression to the dynamic expression and thinking of the same concept object. The basic thinking steps for students from “static” to “dynamic” are established, and students are encouraged to use “Synesthesia,” “metaphor” and other methods to carry out a “dynamic expression” level of emotional association. In the experiment, two different ways of design expression, static and dynamic, are required to design and evolve graphics. In this study, 50 freshmen were selected as the training objects for the planning and training of design thinking and performance means. In the visual elaboration and expression of the inner emotion of the same content with innovative concept and entrepreneurship education, not only should the changes and combinations of the graphics be innovated, but the emotional characteristics of the more abstract graphics should be explored as well. The feedback data of students’ thinking and cognition differences in the two stages of expression were obtained through a questionnaire and analyzed and compared. The experimental results show that after the training, students’ ability to develop innovative concepts and entrepreneurship education through dynamic expression, consciousness and perception were significantly improved. This research also provides a new vision and specific implementation method for the future training of digital dynamic innovation expression ability and the cultivation of innovative concepts of digital media literacy and entrepreneurship education.

The aim of this paper is to look on level of media literacy and activities in this field in two countries – Latvia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. People are exposed to a flow of diverse content of information and opinions, there it is important to discuss about media education and it`s outcome – the media literacy. Media literacy helps people to analyze, evaluate, and create messages thus develops people's critical and creative abilities. The survey about credibility of mass media, critical use of information, understanding of media literacy in each country, institutions promoting media literacy and the impact of media literacy on political decision making was carried out. The main hypothesis of this case study was that media literacy is basic presumption of the establishing the critical thinking of society of developed democratic consciousness.The comparative analysis showed that sociological aspect in the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the deep division in the society itself, with the lack of consensual awareness creates presumption trust completely into the mass media, while in the case of Latvia there is just few answers related to the existing media literacy.

This article would like to present Michel Foucault’s idea concerning Knowledge and Power in media industry. As a contemporary intellectual, Foucault’s thought has a unique style of postmodernism. His thought had gone beyond traditional critical theory whose trying to disclose the relation of power and economic behind the ideology of media. Foucault’s thought had given new perspective in understanding how the media produce truth under tightly control process into something that seems normal. With the assumption of media has the power to create mass culture, which has to be studied critically by media literacy approach, Foucault’s thought had given new space of discursive. An alternative thought on how to estimate the work of mass media as supervisor of truth and creator of information trough normalization practice.
