Abstract This article defines the shift in the concept and conditions of collaborative learning for university studies using the social networking tool Facebook and discusses the collaborative learning effect in terms of using Open Educational Resources (OER), creating learning artefacts and new generic competence development. In order to evaluate students’ learning through collaboration in Facebook, qualitative research method and survey of generic competencies based on the Tuning project framework (2003) were used. The data was collected through focus group interviews and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The qualitative research method was chosen because it provides information of how students collaborate and what experience they gained during the activities. First, Facebook online groups have been identified at three different levels at VMU. The Facebook first level group was the social networking of Vytautas Magnus University’s students and academic staff. The second level group was created for the department dealing with social sciences, and is called “Department of Social Science”. The third level group is “Education Service Management” within the Department of Education. The research was done at the third level group with the students of the “Education Service Management” study programme. As research results show, Facebook as a social network has been changing communication between students, by facilitating the exchange of information and knowledge. The research analyses Facebook in the context of undergraduate university studies, based upon the experience of Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) for using Facebook for university studies. It could be concluded that learning is about developing capabilities to think and to act. Learners using social networking tools for collaborative learning, act, provide feedback and peer-review, asses and rate information. Openness is based on the idea that knowledge is disseminated and shared freely for the benefit of society as a whole. University students collaborate online and learn by using and exchanging OER, as well as developing them as the artefacts of online collaborative learning. They influence task design by creating “educational resources” themselves.

This research aimed to (a) describe the structure of folklore legend of Syekh Katik Sangko in Pasir Subdistrict, central Pariaman District, Pariaman City. (b) describe the social function of folklore legend of Sheikh Katik Sangko in Pasir Village, Central Pariaman District, Pariaman City. The type of this research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data analysis technique was carried out through four steps. The first step was to carried out data inventory. The second was the data classification or analysis phase. The third step was a discussion and conclusion of the results of classification or data analysis. The last was reporting the research as thesis. The results of this study were found that in the folklore legend of Syekh Katik Sangko in Pasir Subdistrict, central Pariaman District, Pariaman City has 10 figures. The theme in this story is the spreading of Islam in Pariaman. Social functions found are means of education, inheritance and identity. Keywords: structure, social function, folklore

This research was conducted with a view to ascertaining the perceptions, feelings, and thoughts of the women who care for patients with schizophrenia regarding the challenges they face and stigma. This research was conducted by using qualitative research method. To this end, in-depth interviews were made with 10 women who care for schizophrenia patients. As a result of the research, it was found out that the women who care for patients often care of the patient on their own, and thus, they have some psychosocial challenges. The disease negatively affects family relationships, but some families, on the contrary, have positive changes in their relationships. The parents accuse themselves as they are the cause of the disease and they are accused by the social circles. The women who care for patients are exposed to stigma during almost the all processes of the disease and some women internalize being stigmatized and they mostly tend to hide the disease in order to cope with the stigma.

This paper examines the meaning of social dancing for older people. It is based on a one-year qualitative research project, which is seeking to explore the experiences of social dance for people aged 60 years or more who attend various dance events in Essex and south-east London. The findings suggest that the social dance experience is not only or simply a beneficial physical experience for older people, it also bestows other significant benefits for those who enter the third age and beyond. It can provide continuity within change. It offers an opportunity to be sociable and have fun in ways that both reflect, and avowedly move beyond, the dancers' teenage years. It promotes a welcome sense of a community spirit. It is a way of becoming visible and aesthetically pleasing, and it bestows a sense of worth and achievement in skills learnt through dancing. Last but not least, dancers can experience the joy of a fit and able body in both real and mythic senses.

Objetivo: compreender o impacto social da doença renal crônica em adolescentes submetidos à hemodiálise. Método: trata-se de estudo qualitativo, descritivo, com adolescentes dos 12 aos 18 anos, que realizavam hemodiálise na unidade hospitalar de Terapia Renal Substitutiva, por meio de entrevista semiestruturada. Analisaram-se os dados segundo o método de pesquisa de narrativas e figura. Resultados: identificaram-se três categorias temáticas: Modificações causadas pela hemodiálise que interferem na rotina; Sentimentos do adolescente associados à doença e à hemodiálise; Sentimentos da família associados à doença e à hemodiálise na perspectiva do adolescente. Conclusão: concluiu-se que o adolescente passa por modificações importantes em seu cotidiano, tanto pelas restrições necessárias para o controle da doença quanto pelas alterações fisiológicas. Revela-se, além disso, que sentimentos como tristeza e medo também permeiam o atendimento a este paciente. Method: this is a qualitative, descriptive study with adolescents from 12 to 18 years old, who underwent hemodialysis in the hospital unit of Renal Replacement Therapy, through semi-structured interviews. Data was analyzed according to the narrative and figure research method. Results: three thematic categories were identified: Modifications caused by hemodialysis that interfere in the routine; Adolescent feelings associated with the disease and hemodialysis; Family feelings associated with the disease and hemodialysis from the adolescent's perspective. Conclusion: it was concluded that the adolescent undergoes important changes in their daily life, both due to the restrictions necessary to control the disease and physiological changes. Moreover, feelings such as sadness and fear also permeate the care of this patient. In the philosophical tradition, phenomenology is a means by which random, raw phenomena are categorized into what can be called human experience. Phenomenology is a school of thought within ontology which focuses on the nature of existence. Edmund Husserls view of phenomenology proposed that to understand the world, one should examine the lens through which he/she experiences the world as opposed to attempting to examine the world itself. The application of this idea first expanded to the discipline of psychology by researchers such as Amedeo Giorgi and Clark Moustakas and more recently has been more widely applied to the social sciences as a whole.Possessing an understanding of the philosophy and psychology traditions behind phenomenology greatly increases a researchers ability to implement it as a qualitative research method.

The purpose of this study is to find out how the community's response is toward the study program of Al-Qur'an and Tafsir at IAIN Padangsidimpuan. This research is a qualitative research which in collecting data it uses a phenomenological approach. Data collected is based on inner perspective of human behavior. The main data sources of this study were from Muslim community leaders and were selected by purposive sampling domiciled in Padangsidimpuan. The results found that the community emphasized that the vision, mission and objectives of the development of the Study Program of Al-Qur'an and Tafsir were truly directed towards strengthening scientific and methodological competence in understanding and interpreting the Qur'an. According to the community, the urgent curriculum content was, first, the linguistics of the Qur'an. The second is the sciences concerned the intricacies and various aspects of the Qur'an, which is commonly called ‘ulum al-Qur`an. The third is about the sciences related to the interpretation of manhaj (an approach and methodology of interpretation) that is classical, modern and contemporary. The fourth is the sciences related to the intricacies and various aspects of the hadits which are commonly called ‘ulum al-hadits. The fifth is the sciences related to the philosophy of science and research methodology. The sixth is the sciences related to social science and nature. These aspects are useful for understanding the social and scientific aspects of the verses of the Qur'an.

Buku foto adalah salah satu bentuk produksi karya fotografi dengan komplektivitas yang tinggi.Penerbitan buku foto di Indonesia pada tahun 2012-2016 mengalami peningkatan yang signifikandan menjadi penanda baru dinamika karya fotografi di Indonesia. Buku foto ini merupakan penafsiran ulang dari si fotografer dari film “Close Encountersof the Third Kind”. Kajian ini bertujuan memberikan pembacaan dan analisis buku foto“Encounters” melalui metode penelitian kualitatif interpretatif dengan teori utama membaca fotoRoland Barthes. In 2012 to 2016, photobook publication inIndonesia growth with a big improvement in a terms of number which is very significant andbecame a milestone of photography history in Indonesia. One of the photobook that had beenpublished in this period is “Encounters” From Rony Zakaria. “Encounters become one of uniquevariable in Indonesian photobook constellation because of how unique and different thisphotobook deliver the narratives. “Encounters” photobook is a re-interpretation of “CloseEncounters of the Third Kind” movie. This study aim to construct an interpretative reading andstudy of “Encounters” photobook through an interpretative qualitative research method withRoland Barthes’s theory of reading a photograph.

The millennial generation is recognized as digital generation. The flourish and fast changing technology and information surround their lives. It is likely to influence and direct how they learn and socialize. One of significant learning media which is popular among today’s generation is video. The use of video, including vlog in English Language Teaching is prevalent today. However, how EFL students feel when they learn and create vlog are still under-examined. Thus, this study aims to explore several EFL students’ emotional experiences when they create vlog and academic video during COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. The study adopts qualitative research method. The data are collected through the students- participants’ narrative and vlog or video analysis. The study reports several findings. The first is the students-participants experience emotional roller coaster of negative and positive states. The second finding is the student-participants develop resilient capacity after regulating emotion by developing self-assurance of personal benefits of learning, creating economic prospect orientation and establishing social senses and global relationship goals. The third finding is it highlights the need to incorporate technology, emotion and cognition learning to fulfil the need and passions of today’s generation.

The literary works written and published during the New Order era were used as the data in this article. During this era there were many literary works which contained social criticisms towards the New Order government. The study focuses on the literary work in the form of poems, and employed the qualitative research method. The theory of literary sociology was used as the main theory while the structural theory and semiotic theory were used as the supporting theories. The social criticisms and meaning which were transmitted by the poets through their poems could be optimally revealed using these theories. The result of the study shows that the poems written by the poets during the New Order era, especially those written by Taufiq Ismail contained a lot of social criticisms; he criticized the law, human rights, politics, education and economy implemented by the New Order government. Such social criticisms were shown through different poetic elements such as the diction, language style, and rhetoric. The social criticisms expressed by Taufic Ismail reflected that Indonesia (the readers) should refer back to the nation’s identity and character as stated in the Five Principles ‘Pancasila’ and the 1945 Constitution.

Focus groups are a well-used research method in the social sciences. Typically, they are conducted in person to generate research insights through group discussion and interaction. As digital technologies advance, there have been efforts to consider how to conduct focus groups in an online format, often using computer-based tools such as email, chat and videoconferencing. In this article, we test the potential of smartphone-based mobile messaging as a new method to elicit group-level insights. Based on empirical analysis and comparison of in-person and WhatsApp group chat focus groups conducted in Singapore, we find that WhatsApp group chat does have the potential to generate well-elaborated responses and group interaction, particularly among younger, digitally fluent participants. However, the quantity and richness of the conversation still do not match that of the in-person focus groups, and further innovation may be needed to improve mobile messaging as a qualitative research method.
