Abstract The study evaluates the accuracy of determining coordinates of a corner of a building measured in the RTN GNSS mode (Real Time Network Global Navigation Satellite System) using the method of line-line intersection and having applied the algorithm of vector translation, developed by the author. The performed analysis of accuracy proved a high precision in determining the points subjected to studies. An important factor in the formation of a mean error regarding the position of the corner of a building, having used the algorithm of vector translation, is the assumption of correctness of the reference points, i.e. the so-called base points, determined in the RTN GNSS mode. In this case, the base points take the role of measurement control points. The mean error of the position of the corner of a building, taking into account the innovative solution, is at the level of several centimeters. The study results presented in the article allow to positively evaluate the algorithm of vector translation in terms of accuracy of determining the position of a corner of a building, measured in real time.

The use of RTN GNSS surveying technology (Real Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System) for direct measurements of building structures is extremely difficult, and often impossible. Therefore, the real-time technology is supported by indirect methods of measurements. One such solution is the method of line-line intersection. Having determined the position (the coordinates) of the so-called base points on the extension of the wall faces of a building, and having calculated the coordinates of intersection of the lines of relationships between the base points, the coordinates of corners of a building structure are obtained, which are relatively unreliable. In order to increase the reliability of these coordinates, the author proposes to add an innovative solution called vector translation to the classical method of line-line intersection. This paper proves the thesis on the increased reliability of determining the coordinates of corners of buildings by conducting an appropriate mathematical analysis of these formulas, using the algorithm developed by the author. The performed analysis shows that this innovative solution results in a smaller difference between the adjusted coordinates relative to the theoretical ones, than the difference captured from the "raw" measurement results with respect to the theoretical values.

The utilization of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is becoming an attractive navigation approach for geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites. A high-sensitivity receiver compatible with Global Position System (GPS) developed by the United States and BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) developed by China has been used in a GEO satellite named TJS-5 to demonstrate feasibility of real-time navigation. According to inflight data, the GNSS signal characteristics including availability, position dilution of precision (PDOP), carrier-to-noise ratio (C/N0), observations quantity and accuracy are analyzed. The mean number of GPS and GPS + BDS satellites tracked are 7.4 and 11.7 and the mean PDOP of GPS and GPS + BDS are 10.24 and 3.91, respectively. The use of BDS significantly increases the number of available navigation satellites and improves the PDOP. The number of observations with respect to C/N0 is illustrated in detail. The standard deviation of the pseudorange noises are less than 4 m, and the corresponding carrier phase noises are mostly less than 8 mm. We present the navigation performance using only GPS observations and GPS + BDS observations combination at different weights through comparisons with the precision reference orbits. When GPS combined with BDS observations, the root mean square (RMS) of the single-epoch least square position accuracy can improve from 32.1 m to 16.5 m and the corresponding velocity accuracy can improve from 0.238 m/s to 0.165 m/s. The RMS of real-time orbit determination position accuracy is 5.55 m and the corresponding velocity accuracy is 0.697 mm/s when using GPS and BDS combinations. Especially, the position accuracy in x-axis direction reduced from 7.24 m to 4.09 m when combined GPS with BDS observations.

The mean sea surface topography of the Ionian and Adriatic Seas has been determined. This was based on six-months of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) measurements which were performed on the Ionian Queen (a ship). The measurements were analyzed following a double-path methodology based on differential GNSS (D-GNSS) and precise point positioning (PPP) analysis. Numerical filtering techniques, multi-parametric accuracy analysis and a new technique for removing the meteorological tide factors were also used. Results were compared with the EGM96 geoid model. The calculated differences ranged between 0 and 48 cm. The error of the results was estimated to fall within 3.31 cm. The 3D image of the marine topography in the region shows a nearly constant slope of 4 cm/km in the N–S direction. Thus, the effectiveness of the approach “repeated GNSS measurements on the same route of a ship” developed in the context of “GNSS methods on floating means” has been demonstrated. The application of this approach using systematic multi-track recordings on conventional liner ships is very promising, as it may open possibilities for widespread use of the methodology across the world.

In the field of air navigation, there is a constant pursuit for new navigation solutions for precise GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) positioning of aircraft. This study aims to present the results of research on the development of a new method for improving the performance of PPP (Precise Point Positioning) positioning in the GPS (Global Positioning System) and GLONASS (Globalnaja Nawigacionnaja Sputnikovaya Sistema) systems for air navigation. The research method is based on a linear combination of individual position solutions from the GPS and GLONASS systems. The paper shows a computational scheme based on the linear combination for geocentric XYZ coordinates of an aircraft. The algorithm of the new research method uses the weighted mean method to determine the resultant aircraft position. The research method was tested on GPS and GLONASS kinematic data from an airborne experiment carried out with a Seneca Piper PA34-200T aircraft at the Mielec airport. A dual-frequency dual-system GPS/GLONASS receiver was placed on-board the plane, which made it possible to record GNSS observations, which were then used to calculate the aircraft’s position in CSRS-PPP software. The calculated XYZ position coordinates from the CSRS-PPP software were then used in the weighted mean model’s developed optimization algorithm. The measurement weights are a function of the number of GPS and GLONASS satellites and the inverse of the mean error square. The obtained coordinates of aircraft from the research model were verified with the RTK-OTF solution. As a result of the research, the presented solution’s accuracy is better by 11–87% for the model with a weighting scheme as a function of the inverse of the mean error square. Moreover, using the XYZ position from the RTKLIB program, the research method’s accuracy increases from 45% to 82% for the model with a weighting scheme as a function of the inverse of the square of mean error. The developed method demonstrates high efficiency for improving the performance of GPS and GLONASS solutions for the PPP measurement technology in air navigation.

Undoubtedly, Low-Altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are becoming more common in marine applications. Equipped with a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) receiver for highly accurate positioning, they perform camera and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) measurements. Unfortunately, these measurements may still be subject to large errors-mainly due to the inaccuracy of measurement of the optical axis of the camera or LiDAR sensor. Usually, UAVs use a small and light Inertial Navigation System (INS) with an angle measurement error of up to 0.5∘ (RMSE). The methodology for spatial orientation angle correction presented in the article allows the reduction of this error even to the level of 0.01∘ (RMSE). It can be successfully used in coastal and port waters. To determine the corrections, only the Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) and an image of the coastline are needed.

AbstractIn recent years, fingerprint-based positioning has gained researchers’ attention since it is a promising alternative to the Global Navigation Satellite System and cellular network-based localization in urban areas. Despite this, the lack of publicly available datasets that researchers can use to develop, evaluate, and compare fingerprint-based positioning solutions constitutes a high entry barrier for studies. As an effort to overcome this barrier and foster new research efforts, this paper presents OutFin, a novel dataset of outdoor location fingerprints that were collected using two different smartphones. OutFin is comprised of diverse data types such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular signal strengths, in addition to measurements from various sensors including the magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, and ambient light sensor. The collection area spanned four dispersed sites with a total of 122 reference points. Each site is different in terms of its visibility to the Global Navigation Satellite System and reference points’ number, arrangement, and spacing. Before OutFin was made available to the public, several experiments were conducted to validate its technical quality.

<p class="04CorpodoTexto">Este artigo tem por objetivo aplicar geotecnologias para obtenção de informações planialtimétricas a fim de avaliar a viabilidade de implantação do campus Centro Histórico/Itaqui-Bacanga do IFMA. Considerando que para realização de levantamento por métodos tradicionais é recomendado que seja realizado o destocamento e a limpeza do terreno previamente, avaliou-se a realização do levantamento planialtimétrico a partir de um par de receptores <em>Global Navigation Satellite System</em> (GNSS) pelo método <em>Real Time Kinematic</em> (RTK) pós processado e também a partir da realização de levantamento fotogramétrico, utilizando aeronave remotamente pilotada (ARP), popularmente conhecida como drone. Esta análise permitiu demonstrar que o aerolevantamento com a ARP pode ser aplicado na concepção inicial de um projeto de engenharia, conforme classificação do Tribunal de Contas da União (TCU) para níveis de precisão, pois obteve-se uma diferença orçamentária de 19% entre os projetos elaborados a partir das duas geotecnologias.</p><div> </div>

Abstract—An online automatic disaster monitoring system can reduce or prevent geological mine disasters to protect life and property. Global Navigation Satellite System receivers and the GeoRobot are two kinds of in-situ geosensors widely used for monitoring ground movements near mines. A combined monitoring solution is presented that integrates the advantages of both. In addition, a geosensor network system to be used for geological mine disaster monitoring is described. A complete online automatic mine disaster monitoring system including data transmission, data management, and complex data analysis is outlined. This paper proposes a novel overall architecture for mine disaster monitoring. This architecture can seamlessly integrate sensors for long-term, remote, and near real-time monitoring. In the architecture, three layers are used to collect, manage and process observation data. To demonstrate the applicability of the method, a system encompassing this architecture has been deployed to monitor the safety and stability of a slope at an open-pit mine in Inner Mongolia.

Abstract. In many fields today, it is necessary that a team has to do operational planning for a precise geographical location. Examples for this are staff work, the preparation of surveillance tasks at major events or state visits and sensor deployment planning for military and civil reconnaissance. For these purposes, Fraunhofer IOSB is developing the Digital Map Table (DigLT). When making important decisions, it is often helpful or even necessary to assess a situation on site. An augmented reality (AR) solution could be useful for this assessment. For the visualization of markers at specific geographical coordinates in augmented reality, a smartphone has to be aware of its position relative to the world. It is using the sensor data of the camera and inertial measurement unit (IMU) for AR while determining its absolute location and direction with the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and its magnetic compass. To validate the positional accuracy of AR markers, we investigated the current state of the art and existing solutions. A prototype application has been developed and connected to the DigLT. With this application, it is possible to place markers at geographical coordinates that will show up at the correct location in augmented reality at anyplace in the world. Additionally, a function was implemented that lets the user select a point from the environment in augmented reality, whose geographical coordinates are sent to the DigLT. The accuracy and practicality of the placement of markers were examined using geodetic reference points. As a result, we can conclude that it is possible to mark larger objects like a car or a house, but the accuracy mainly depends on the internal compass, which causes a rotational error that increases with the distance to the target.

With the use of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology, it is now possible to determine the position of points in 3D coordinates systems. Lagos datum is the most common Mean Sea Level used in most parts of Nigeria. In Niger Delta, for instance Warri and its environs, the most commonly used datum for height determination is the Mean Lower Low Water Datum. It then becomes necessary to determine a constant factor for conversion between the two datum when the need arises as both are often encountered during Geomatics Engineering field operations. In this paper, the constant to be applied in converting between both datum was determined. The constant was found to be 17.79m. The horizontal and vertical accuracy standard was also determined as well as the stack maps.
