Tourism development in transition economies of the western Balkans

Abstract Tourism development in transition economies is characterized by hazards and incomplete setups. Tourists encounter lacking accommodation standard, full trash bins, insufficient health care and security infrastructure. Hence, tourism development actors in transition economies are often criticized for the incomplete touristic product. In this article we will have a more detailed look on this criticism and analyse the background of this discussion. We follow the criticism and analyse the given institutional constrains that influence tourism development in transition economies. We therefore question, what are the effects of these institutional constrains on tourism development in transition economies. We follow a qualitative approach with a single case study from a cross-border hiking trail in southeast Europe. Our data is based on secondary data, participant observer material and interviews with local actors. We demonstrate that transition economies face institutional voids, while performing well, when it comes to increasing tourism numbers. Therefore, the contribution aims on providing possible explanation on the obvious contradiction of a partly incomplete, but successful tourism product. The authors question the importance of classical quality criteria in case of the specific tourism product and the specific clientele while stressing the dimensions of authenticity, credibility and homogeneity of the given tourism setting.

According to the global pandemic conditions, tourism and therefore, the travel insurance market faces new challenges. This study is aimed to determine appropriate approaches that will contribute to tourism development during and post-pandemic period. Tourism insurance is one of the most important contents of travel planning, which protects tourists from certain financial risks and wastage that can occur during travelling. This wastage can be minor, such as delayed luggage, or significant – a medical emergency overseas. Within pandemic conditions, emergency medical care, which will cover Covid -19 has become an inevitability part of an offered insurance packages. The design of the article includes secondary data review, theoretical explanations and empirical evidence (survey) regarding insurance updates in the travel planning, development of proposals for the future tourism development in Georgia’s without significant wastage or outcomes from the pandemic conditions. There are proposed some ideas and examples about to enhance knowledge in insurance adapting accordance with the requirements of the modern situation, with an aim for the future tourism unceasing development. It has been identified several approaches in terms of enhancement quality and gullibility of supplied tourism services, which is most important in the last pandemic period. This is a first attempt describing and identifying issues related to the Georgian tourism sector in terms of travel insurance adaptation to the Covid-19 conditions. It is a valuable piece of information for tourism product makers to adopt the article’s proposals for the improvement of future tourism development.

Background: The criteria set of assessing hospital quality in Vietnam in 2016 was revied from the criteria set in 2013 by the Ministry of Health in order to help hospitals to self-assess towards improvinge quality of hospitals in the international integration context. The study aimed to assess the quality of public hospitals in Can Tho City according to the revised criteria set of the Ministry of Health in 2016 and compare the quality among three hospital ranks (including grade I, grade II, and grade III) via to 5 groups of quality criteria. Methods: A cross-sectional study, using secondary data analysis was applied to assess the service quality of 7 general public hospitals in Can Tho City. Results: The average total score of 7 hospitals is 245 and the average for the criteria of 7 hospitals is 2.99, which is just satisfactory. In the criterion of quality, criterion D and E had the lowest scores compared to the other three groups. There was no statistically significant difference (p = 0.076) among the mean scores for the three hospital categories. Conclusion: The quality of public hospitals in Can Tho city in 2016 only reached moderately good level (2.99). Interventions should be developed to improve the quality of hospitals, with particular emphasis on improving the quality of criteria groups D and E. We obtain a general solution of the sextic functional equation f (ax+by)+ f (ax-by)+ f (bx+ay)+ f (bx-ay) = (ab)2(a2 + b2)[f(x+y)+f(x-y)] + 2(a2-b2)(a4-b4)[f(x)+f(y)] and investigate the stability of sextic Lie *-derivations associated with the given functional equation via fixed point method. Also, we present a counterexample for a single case.

AbstractRecent academic research presents a large volume of studies on the organic market from the perspective of consumers’ motivation and purchasing preferences. However, these studies adopt a competitive or cooperative approach, but overlook the institutional complexity of emerging markets. This study aims to investigate the organic food production chain of emerging countries from the perspective of coopetition, taking into account the influence of formal institution agents. We focused our analysis on the chain of the organic food products, with the organic ice-cream producer as the key node of the chain. It is a single-case study conducted through in loco interviews with participants in the organic food products’ chain, along with secondary data. The results show the influence of formal institution agents and non-financial incentives as primary drivers of entrepreneurial strategic decisions. We contributed to the coopetition literature by demonstrating the influence of formal institution agents on value creation and value capture in the organic chain.

Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) has recently become an important area of tourism development for many countries that are home to such cultural resources. Within this context, the value of an ICH site has often been used to guide tourism development and policy making. In addition, community residents’ attitude and perception of ICH contribute to tourism development. In this study, we used the traditional firing technology of Longquan celadon in Zhejiang Province, China, as a case study to understand the relationships between value recognition and attitude along with the intention to visit the heritage site. We surveyed 368 residents and conducted path analysis to test such relationships. Findings revealed significant positive correlations between residents’ cognition of ICH value, their attitudes and travel intentions. Among them, attitudes played a mediating role in the formation of value cognition to travel intention. These findings offer insights into ICH-related tourism development, particularly regarding tourism product design, marketing and post-development evaluation, as well as the conservation of ICH sites.

This study identifies the potential of tourism products in Sukajadi Village Bogor Regency based on ten (10) tourism components as well as its development strategy, which is currently included in the category of a newly developing tourist village. The results of this research are aggressive and serious development strategies in all aspects of the tourism component, namely increasing the quality and diversification of tourist attractions and activities, accessibility, improving the quality and quantity of tourism amenities, improving the quality of human resources & institutions, community support, land use, tourism industry cooperation, as well as marketing aspects. This research type is a descriptive qualitative with a case study exploratory approach. Primary data is obtained from direct observation and interviews with key informants, namely Pokdarwis and the Village Head, while secondary data is the result of literature studies and research documentation. The analysis technique of this research uses SWOT analysis and Matrix, analysis of the work program of the vision for tourism development of the Bogor Regency Government which refers to local government master plan for tourism development (RIPPARDA), and also analysis of the Cleanlines, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) guidelines.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) metode identifikasi masalah Public Relations pada LAZ Dompet Dhuafa; (2) proses perencanaan dan pemrograman LAZ Dompet Dhuafa; (3) strategi aksi dan komunikasi LAZ Dompet Dhuafa; dan (4) proses evaluasi program LAZ Dompet Dhuafa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus eksploratif jenis single case holistic. Data primer dalam penelitian ini diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, sementara data sekunder bersumber dari studi pustaka dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa LAZ Dompet Dhuafa tidak melakukan riset khusus terkait perencanaan program; riset yang dilakukan hanya melalui fakta-fakta baru di lapangan melalui program-program yang sudah ada sebelumnya. Perencanaan program tematik dan nontematik LAZ Dompet Dhuafa dilakukan melalui rapat kerja tahunan, sementara pesan utama yang ingin disampaikan kepada pihak eksternal disampaikan melalui website resmi dan media sosial. This study uses a qualitative method with an explorative case study approach and single case holistic. The primary data in this study were obtained through in-depth interviews, while the secondary data were obtained from literature and documentation. The results of the study show that LAZ Dompet Dhuafa does not conduct specific research related to program planning; the research only carried out through new facts in the field through the pre-existing programs. The planning of thematic and non-thematic program is carried out through annual work meetings, while the main message to be conveyed to public (external) is delivered through the official website and social media. The main purpose of this study is to investigate if determinants that we selected in our analysis have any effects on inflation rate in Western Balkans Countries[1] by using panel data for the period of 2001-2017, in yearly basis in total of 102 observation. The study used quantitative analysis approach and secondary data by applying the multivariate time series, respectively vector error correction model [VECM]. Multivariate time series was applied to investigate whether the budget deficit and other explanatory variable have any significant impact on inflation rate. The results from our analysis shows that three of four determinates that we used are significant on inflation rate. The model summaries statistics for inflation rate which shows that inflation rate has a moderate correlation with explanatory variables that we used in our model, that explanatory variables explain 45.5 percent of dependent variable and we can conclude that a model is a proper and fit. The results suggest that one percent point increase in budget deficit to GDP ratio is associated with about a 9.34 percent point increase in inflation rate.  The overall inference is that the ratios that we selected has a significant influence on the inflation rate in Western Balkans Countries.      [1] Western Balkans Countries: Albania, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.

The Special Economic Zones (SEZs) is one of the tourism agglomeration models whose effectiveness in meeting development goals needs to be analyzed. Tourism agglomeration policies that are not in line with the national development goals will cause inequality, especially in the welfare of the local community. The aim of this study is to analyses the effectiveness of SEZ policies in achieving regional development goals by comparing the community prosperity level with the goals of tourism development. The study is conducted by employing the meta-analysis method and uses secondary data of economic study from the West Nusa Tenggara Province which compares the National Development Index (HDI) with the regional tourism development targets. There is a quite large gap between the quality of education of the local community and the standard of human resource (HR) requirements specified in the SEZs. Management of tourism agglomeration must be carried out with a sustainable development approach, namely by integrating tourism development strategies into regional development.

Purpose:  This article presentes the results of an in-depth and contextualized study on the problems in the commercialization of glass containers sent to the selective collection system of the city of Londrina-PR, Brazil.Design: The methodological strategy was the triangulation of sources of evidence desiring to understand the situational characteristics, as well as the operational and environmental challenges faced by the local actors involved, especially the cooperatives. Quantitative and qualitative study case using primary and secondary data collection from multistakeholders.Findings: The data collected here allow us to conclude that vitreous materials have demonstrated difficult commercialization processes and are among those materials that are economically less interesting for cooperatives, intensifying the high social fragility of cooperates.Practical implications: The search for solutions to environmental and economic problems caused by the high generation of municipal solid waste in Brazil still have strong deficiencies in methodologies and technologies. Social implications:  How the reverse logistics of vitreous packaging is operationalized has increased public financing with this type of material, since the sales price obtained by waste pickers does not corroborate the economic support of cooperative enterprises.Originality/value: This study allows to advance in the explanation and description of the way of structuring the reverse chain of vitreous packaging, especially in medium-sized municipalities in the inland.Keywords: post-consumption; packaging; glass; recycling; selective collection
