On the basis of the specimens which include the super ex-libris of the House of Vasa stored at the Rare Book Department of Vilnius University Library, the article attempts to answer the question whether the books might be attributed to the House of Vasa. The question is solved with reference to the analogues of the collection of books belonging to the House of Vasa stored in the libraries in Poland, Sweden and Germany. In addition to the major question, the article recreates the representation of the cultural life in the palace, analyses the relationship between the monarchs and a book, discusses the ways a book would reach the palatial library, highlights the topic of the collection of the books and shows their fate. The comparative analysis of the books stored in Vilnius and their analogues in Poland, Sweden and Germany enables the conclusion that they might be attributed to the House of Vasa. Al-though the provenances pertain to different per-sons, they do not deny that the aforementioned books most likely belonged to the library of Wladysław Vasa. Of course, a more substantial attribution requires more comprehensive research, the present article is expected to encourage

Vilniaus universiteto bibliotekaUniversiteto g. 3, LT-01122 Vilnius, LietuvaEl. paštas: [email protected]Šiuo metu Vilniaus universiteto bibliotekoje saugoma 315 spaudos pirmagimių knygų – inkunabulų. Fondo dydis įvairiuose šaltiniuose įvairuoja. Straipsnio siekis – išnagrinėti, kaip radosi ir kito Vilniaus universiteto bibliotekos inkunabulų fondas, kokie veiksniai darė įtaką tiems pokyčiams, kokia inkunabulų fondo apimtis, sudėtis, dabartinė būklė ir kokia inkunabulų reikšmė Lietuvos kultūrai.Reikšminai žodžiai: knyga, spauda, inkunabulas, paleotipas, biblioteka, katalogas, spaustuvininkas, raida.INCUNABULA IN VILNIUS UNIVERSITY LIBRARY: DEVELOPMENT AND STRUCTUREVIDAS RAČIUS SummaryThere are 315 incunabula in the Vilnius University Library now. The aim of the article was to examine how the fund of these incunabula was compiled and the amount of this fund was changing, what factors influenced changes of this fund, and what is the significance of these incunabula for Lithuanian culture. At the same time it was an attempt using incunabula to show at least passingly how Lithuania looked in European political, cultural and ideological context of that time, what events or processes influenced collection accession, who and by what ties related it to other countries. Lithuania was not a desert island on an European map, withdrawn from prevalent political cultural and ideological changes, neither it was a total barren, accepting no progress or novelties. It was inquired by what ways the incunabula emerged in our country, what was the demand and what impact they made, who and why acquired them, and what marks their activity had left so that we could judge by them about their circulation in Lithuanian cultural life and contemplate what still undiscovered treasures may be hidden in them waiting for researchers attention.

The article deals with music publications of the beginning of the 16th–19th c. – antiphonals, graduals, missals, hymnals and manuals held in the Rare Book Department of Vilnius University Library. On the basis of the extant XVIII c. manuscript catalogues of Vilnius Jesuit College Library and Library of Novitiate the publications related to music included in those catalogues are being discussed and provenances and marginalia found in them are being investigated. In addition, the article also describes anonymous manuals printed by Vilnius Academy Printing House at the end of 17th c.–18th c.: Ars et praxis musica (the first edition in 1667), Compendium regularum generalium cantus (1753) as well as canticle books in Polish and Latin languages. The second part of the article presents music activities of German composer Johann David Holland (1746–1827) who gave music lectures in Vilnius Imperial University at the beginning of the 19th c. The heritage of the Professor – nine music books – donated after his death in 1828 by his daughter Joanna to the Library of Vilnius Imperial University. The third part of the article deals with publications of church and secular music, published at the end of 16th c.–18th c., part of them – especially rare and valuable, and the diverse history of coming of these books to the Library which witnesses of their complicate and intricate journey through different institutions.

In order to show how research on historical epistolary language can contribute to sociolinguistics and applied linguistics, the present article examines some examples of late 18th-century letters. The research sample includes letters written to Vilnius University professors in that period (now archived in the Vilnius University Library), where the authors of the letters use code-switching or write in a language other than what we would nowadays think of as default. The cases under investigation have revealed that the use of an unusual language could be motivated by pedagogical goals, whereas code-switching could be caused, among other factors, by the need to refer to new realities or to clarify meaning; it could also be used for rhetorical expression (poetic function of language). The article is also important in that it presents accidentally detected instances of code-switching that are generally hard to identify in historically distant letters, e.g. Polish elements in French, Lithuanian and Russian elements in Polish texts. The article is intended to stimulate interest in the research on archaic manuscripts and to enrich the existing knowledge about the linguistic environment of the old Vilnius University.

Subject. The working time of workers at any stage of economic development is a value reflecting the level of labor productivity. Any progress in productivity contributes to changes in the volume of labor costs and the number of employed. Depending on the relationship between the total volume of labor costs and the number of employed, the duration of working time per one worker may change (it may increase, decrease, or remain unchanged). Objectives. The study aims to confirm the importance of such a macroeconomic indicator as the number of employed in varying working hours. Methods. The study rests on the comparative analysis of countries with developed economies based on some indicators like dynamics of the working time fund, dynamics of the number of employed, average number of hours worked during the year per employee, etc. The analyzed timespan is 25 years (from 1991 to 2016). Results. The comparative analysis revealed that in the non-production sphere and the economy as a whole the macroeconomic determinants correlate so that the length of working time per worker reduces. When considering the analysis results for the manufacturing sector, no single trend was identified. Conclusions. One of the key factors affecting the change in working hours is the number of employed. The relationship between the working time fund and the number of employed directly determines the dynamics of working time per worker.

AbstractIn this paper we introduce new function spaces which we call anisotropic hyperbolic Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Their definition is based on a hyperbolic Littlewood-Paley analysis involving an anisotropy vector only occurring in the smoothness weights. Such spaces provide a general and natural setting in order to understand what kind of anisotropic smoothness can be described using hyperbolic wavelets (in the literature also sometimes called tensor-product wavelets), a wavelet class which hitherto has been mainly used to characterize spaces of dominating mixed smoothness. A centerpiece of our present work are characterizations of these new spaces based on the hyperbolic wavelet transform. Hereby we treat both, the standard approach using wavelet systems equipped with sufficient smoothness, decay, and vanishing moments, but also the very simple and basic hyperbolic Haar system. The second major question we pursue is the relationship between the novel hyperbolic spaces and the classical anisotropic Besov–Lizorkin-Triebel scales. As our results show, in general, both approaches to resolve an anisotropy do not coincide. However, in the Sobolev range this is the case, providing a link to apply the newly obtained hyperbolic wavelet characterizations to the classical setting. In particular, this allows for detecting classical anisotropies via the coefficients of a universal hyperbolic wavelet basis, without the need of adaption of the basis or a-priori knowledge on the anisotropy.

Creativity is the key to obtaining and maintaining competitiveness of modern organizations, and it has attracted much attention from academic circles and management practices. Shared leadership is believed to effectively influence team output. However, research on the impact of individual creativity is still in its infancy. This study adopts the qualitative comparative analysis method, taking 1584 individuals as the research objects, underpinned by a questionnaire-based survey. It investigates the influence of the team’s shared leadership network elements and organizational environmental factors on the individual creativity. We have found that there are six combination of conditions of shared leadership and organizational environmental factors constituting sufficient combination of conditions to increase or decrease individual creativity. Moreover, we have noticed that the low network density of shared leadership is a sufficient and necessary condition of reducing individual creativity. Our results also provide management suggestions for practical activities during the team management.

Relationship researchers have long studied factors that boost or detract from relationship success. Social support and premarital counseling are factors that have been shown to boost relationship satisfaction and relationship success. However, little is known about how relationship status may influence attitudes toward social support and premarital counseling. Using a human ecology lens, this study explores the relationship between relationship status and attitudes toward social support and premarital counseling from a sample of 385 individuals. Implications for family practitioners and future researchers are provided based on study results.

Summary The present article discusses three hotly debated interpretational issues in Diotima´s speech in Plato´s Symposium. The first of these is the relationship of Diotima´s speech to other dialogues, such as the Phaedo and the Republic, with regard to the immortality of the soul. It is argued that there is no discrepancy at all, because the immortality of the soul does not play any role in the Symposium. The second issue is the nature of the three classes of posterity: biological, spiritual and philosophical. Whereas the posterity of the first two classes can be relatively easily defined, the character of the philosopher´s posterity, ‘true virtue’, remains rather vague. It may consist in dialectical teaching of the Idea of Beauty by Socrates. Thirdly, it is argued that the philosopher´s immortality differs only gradually from the immortality of the other two classes, that is, the philosopher as a man only survives by means of his posterity.
