Abstract: Epistemology of Fiqh Siyâsah. Islam is not merely a theological system but also a social and state system. The ulamas through their ijtihad formulated Islamic teachings on state in ‘ilm al-siyâsah al-Islâmiyyah or fiqh siyâsah (Islamic political knowledge). This is defined as “knowledge that deals with managing Islamic state affairs in terms of systems and laws that are in line with the Islamic principles, even if there is no certain argumentation (from the Quran and the Sunnah)”. This knowledge has grown dynamically, because it can interact with political ideas and systems from the outside as well as local culture, including with the modern political system. Keywords:  fiqh siyâsah, siyâsah syar‘iyyah, islamic political thought, islamic political system, the theory of Islamic politicAbstrak: Epistemologi Fikih Siyâsah. This paper is based on a literature study that aims to examine the relevance and implementation of Islamic politics in the political arena of Indonesia, the majority of which are Muslims. The results of the study concluded that in the era of 70s emerged ??Nurcholish Madjid's idea that "Islam YES, Islamic party NO" and it had established a new awareness for Muslims on the desired goal which is not idealism about the establishment of an Islamic State, but a just and prosperous society. Islam is no longer seen as a symbolic structure, but rather the spirit of values ??that are brought and developed in the life of the state. Efforts to articulate Islamic politics in Indonesia are important issues that need to be addressed to provide a possible synthesis between Islam and the State, therefore the study of Islamic political thought that is unique to Indonesia is not only attractive but urgent to do. In line with the conclusions above, it is expected that this paper can trigger students, especially those who choose the Department of Siyasah Jinayah so that Islamic political thought not only be a mere discourse but should be more focused on the aspect of its implementation to move towards a more advanced Indonesia.

Much of the importance of what we call “political ideas” lies precisely in their being political-operative and effective to the extent that they are deployed in actual situations, in the relationships that are characteristic and constitutive of concrete political system. It is a commonplace of Tudor history that one distinctive feature of the reign of Elizabeth Tudor was the panache with which she wooed her English subjects. Such activity has been treated much more as an aspect of her “instinct for romantic leadership,” much less as a subject for serious historical study. This article sets out to redress that dismissive stance and argues that the language and processes of her “wooing” encapsulated an intersection of humanist beliefs and Tudor policy, with serious political purposes and significant political implications. Since the 1960s, a new orthodoxy in the study of political thought has stressed the importance of paying attention to the audiences for whom, and the contexts within which, particular political ideas were expressed, but there has been little effect of this trend on Tudor political studies. Historians have paid only passing attention to whole new genres of Tudor political discourse, let alone to the increasing Tudor range of strategies for presenting fundamental political propositions to an ever-widening audience. The introduction of print, the polemical function of Tudor homilies, Tudor royal proclamations, and court-sponsored political pamphlets all carried important messages. Such evolving forms contained within them implied redefinitions of relationships between subject and monarch. The reign of Henry VIII reflected the evolution of a qualitatively new concept of the sovereign monarch, drawing on an increasingly unqualified doctrine of allegiance.

AbstractThis paper describes an analytical study of the principles of the mission of power (dakwah-kekuasaan) in Islamic political thought originating from the al-Quran. The description of the principles of the mission of power is intended to provide a conceptual-philosophical and implementative practical description in the al-Quran. Analyzing qualitative data and using a critical-analysis approach, this paper shows that the verses of the Qur'an do not determine a particular system and form regarding social and state life in Islam, but only the principles or basics. Nevertheless, from these principles can be developed a certain system of government and political system that is most suitable in this modern era. Of course by considering the ideals of religious teachings and the empirical reality of a country.

ABSTRACTContrary to received historical wisdom, Sir Robert Walpole, the pragmatist par excellence, was diverted by political ideas. Thus he invested time and an unprecedented amount of money in political newspapers. This article investigates the primary pro-government newspapers and, as well as identifying the leading circle of political writers sponsored by Walpole, addresses the varied and complex arguments that appeared in their ‘leading essay’ each week for twenty years. After identifying some common but misleading historical representations of Walpolean political thought, the article examines the treatment of three broad philosophical questions – human nature, the origin, nature and extent of government, and political morality – so demonstrating that Walpole's spokesmen were not narrowly pragmatic. Subsequently, the article focuses upon the careful pro-government response to the common charges that Walpole corrupted the political system and betrayed traditional whig values. In doing so, the article highlights the skills of some underrated eighteenth-century political writers and, more importantly, emphasizes the union of government and ideology in Walpolean political thinking.

This book is an important - though controversial - addition to the discourse surrounding Islamic political thought. It traces its lineage to the debate advocating a separation of religion and politics. By putting this politico-religious discourse into a new oxymoronic term, ‘religious secularity’, the author attempts to construct another theological challenge to the concept of an Islamic state. Hailing from Iran, Dr. Naser Ghobadzadeh (currently a Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Justice, the Australian Catholic University), examines Islamic politico-religious discourse in the context of his homeland. Briefly reviewing the political struggles Muslims have faced during the second half of the twentieth century while trying to fulfil their aspirations of establishing an Islamic state, he attempts to describe the parallel Iranian quest for a democratic secular state. Being aware of the varied definitions and understandings of the term ‘secularism’, he intentionally uses the term ‘secularity’ to clarify the distinction between the emerging discourse in Iran and the conventional understanding of secularism as a global paradigm. This discourse, according to the author, was first developed following a series of articles written by Abdulkarim Soroush in 1989, in which the latter emphasized a separation of religion from religious knowledge (p.25). The author ignores, however, the Sunni scholar, Shaykh Ali Abdul Raziq, who, in his book entitled al-Islam wa usul al-Hukm (1925), held the same view. This might be because of the author’s focus on Shi'ite political thought.

<p><strong>Islam and State: The Reflection of Secularization Idea of Nurcholis Madjid. </strong>There are some typologies of Islamic political thought. They are fundamental, secular, and liberal. Secular is the typology of Islamic political thought that separate religion and state. In the West, religion and state are differentiated. They advanced because of the separation of religion and state, but not in Islam. Nurcholis Madjid is one of the Islamic political thinkers who explains the secularization of religion and the state. The purpose of this study is to analyze the thoughts of Nurcholis Madjid about the secularization of Islam and the state. This research uses descriptive analytical method. According Madjid the answers of modernization problems especially among the Indonesian Muslim community is secularization. Secularization is needed because Moslem cannot differentiate religion (<em>din</em>) and state (<em>dawlah</em>). Secularization is carried out for Moslems who “deify the world” which should be worldly, and give up religious matters. The formation of an Islamic state is the failure of Moslems to respond to the problem of modernization.</p>
