EVALUATION OF THE SKELETAL-AGE METHOD OF ESTIMATING CHILDREN'S DEVELOPMENT

The inspectional method of estimating children's skeletal ages from an atlas of standard films is based on the fact that increase of size (e.g., of a carpel bone or epiphysis) is not equivalent to maturation. The deficiencies of the inspectional method, however, render measurement methods very desirable. After ossific centers have appeared, further changes (development or maturation) are largely expressible as changes in shape or proportions, and are therefore measurable; but, to avoid the complexity of expressing shape by measurement, the present study started from the premise that change in shape is associated (although to an unknown degree) with increase in linear dimensions. On all the reproductions in the Todd and Greulich-Pyle hand atlases, and on Todd's intermediates (film-reproductions of roentgenograms used in the atlas), simple linear measurements were made on four maturity indicators: radius epiphysis, capitate, metacarpal III epiphysis, and the epiphysis of the proximal phalanx of digit III. To express the relationship between age and the size of each indicator, moving-average curves were developed (usually by 5-point averages). To obtain a "measurement estimate" of the skeletal age of any film, the age estimates derived from the curves for the four indicators were averaged, giving equal weight to each indicator. For the Todd intermediates a more complicated method of estimating age from indicator sizes was also used—a multiple regression equation, which automatically allotted an appropriate weight to each indicator and permitted adjustment for general hand (or bone) size where required (phalanx shaft width as an adjustment for epiphysis width). The ages estimated by measurement (moving-average and regression methods) were compared with inspectional estimates, from Todd and Greulich-Pyle atlases, on three series of roentgenograms comprising a total of more than 250 films from 190 children of ages 2 to 14½ years. The conclusions were: 1. For the group-study of children between the age when ossific centers have appeared and the age of incipient epiphyseal union the measurement estimates of skeletal age would be equivalent to inspectional estimates in comparing (a) average skeletal ages, (b) inter-child variation in skeletal age, and (c) average progress (average gain in skeletal age). 2. Because even "actual-size" reproduction in the preparation of an atlas causes a change in size, the measurement method, unless based on intermediates, does not permit reliable comparison, even of groups, with standard (atlas) children. This drawback could be removed by publishing, instead of an atlas, tables of measurement-age equivalents derived from current or future series of standard children's roentgenograms (actual films or intermediates) with some reproductions for guidance in measurement. 3. In the assessment of an individual child's skeletal age status or progress the differences between inspectional and measurement ages vary so greatly from film to film that the measurement method seems to be of little use; but for this purpose the inspectional method itself is very crude.

Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) which provides a comprehensive picture of the economic conditions of a region is indicator for analyzing economic region development. Another indicator that is no less important is inflation as an indicator to see the level of changes in price increases due to an increase in the money supply that causes rising prices. The success of development must also look at the income inequality of its population which is illustrated by this ratio. One of the main regional development goals is to improve the welfare of its people, where to see the level of community welfare, among others, can be seen from the level of unemployment in an area. To that end, in order to get an overview of the effects of GRDP, inflation and the ratio of gini to unemployment in DKI Jakarta for the last ten years (2007-2016), an analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression methods. As a result, together the relationship between GRDP, inflation and the Gini ratio is categorized as "very strong" with a score of 0.936, and has a significant influence on unemployment. Partially, the GRDP gives a significant influence, but inflation and gini ratio do not have a significant influence. GDP, inflation and the Gini ratio together for the last ten years have contributed 81.4% to unemployment in DKI Jakarta, while the remaining 18.6% is influenced by other variables not included in this research model, so for reduce unemployment in DKI Jakarta, programs that are oriented to economic growth, suppressing inflation and decreasing this ratio need to be carried out simultaneously. Keywords: GRDP, inflation, unemployment, DKI Jakarta, GINI ratio

The research is concerned with estimating the effect of the cultivated area of barley crop on the production of that crop by estimating the regression model representing the relationship of these two variables. The results of the tests indicated that the time series of the response variable values is stationary and the series of values of the explanatory variable were nonstationary and that they were integrated of order one ( I(1) ), these tests also indicate that the random error terms are auto correlated and can be modeled according to the mixed autoregressive-moving average models ARMA(p,q), for these results we cannot use the classical estimation method to estimate our regression model, therefore, a fully modified M method was adopted, which is a robust estimation methods, The estimated results indicate a positive significant relation between the production of barley crop and cultivated area.

This study aims to determine the index of public satisfaction in public health center services in Sumenep Regency and the relationship between the services to the public satisfaction. The analysis measured the index of public satisfaction and logistic regression methods to determine the effect of the relationship on total satisfaction in the health services of Public Health Center. The results of the study are the alignment between interests and patient satisfaction is still not aligned, there are still differences between interests and satisfaction, the pattern of the result is the relationship between the assurance dimension to the service satisfaction of the public health center, and the results of the index of public satisfaction  values show that the results of the community assess the public health center performance is very good by getting an A grade. To clarify the relationship between changes in photochemical oxidants’ (Ox) concentrations and their precursors in Kawasaki, a series of analyses were conducted using data on Ox, their precursors, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and meteorology that had been monitored throughout the city of Kawasaki for 30 years from 1990 to 2019. The trend in air temperature was upward, wind speed was downward, and solar radiation was upward, indicating an increasing trend in meteorological factors in which Ox concentrations tend to be higher. Between 1990 and 2013, the annual average Ox increased throughout Kawasaki and remained flat after that. The three-year moving average of the daily peak increased until 2015, and after that, it exhibited a slight decline. The amount of generated Ox is another important indicator. To evaluate this, a new indicator, the daytime production of photochemical oxidant (DPOx), was proposed. DPOx is defined by daytime averaged Ox concentrations less the previous day’s nighttime averaged Ox concentrations. The trend in DPOx from April to October has been decreasing since around 2006, and it was found that this indicator reflects the impact of reducing emissions of NOx and VOCs in Kawasaki.

Mammalian carnivores are rarely incorporated in paleoenvironmental reconstructions, largely because of their rarity within the fossil record. However, multivariate statistical modeling can be successfully used to quantify specific anatomical features as environmental predictors. Here we explore morphological variability of the humerus in a closely related group of predators (Felidae) to investigate the relationship between morphometric descriptors and habitat categories. We analyze linear measurements of the humerus in three different morphometric combinations (log-transformed, size-free, and ratio), and explore four distinct ways of categorizing habitat adaptations. Open, Mixed, and Closed categories are defined according to criteria based on traditional descriptions of species, distributions, and biome occupancy. Extensive exploratory work is presented using linear discriminant analyses and several fossils are included to provide paleoecological reconstructions.We found no significant differences in the predictive power of distinct morphometric descriptors or habitat criteria, although sample splitting into small and large cat guilds greatly improves the stability of the models. Significant insights emerge for three long-canine cats:Smilodon populator,Paramachairodus orientalis, andDinofelissp. from Olduvai Gorge (East Africa).S. populatorandP. orientalisare both predicted to have been closed-habitat adapted taxa. The false “sabertooth”Dinofelissp. from Olduvai Gorge is predicted to be adapted to mixed habitat. The application of felid humerus ecomorphology to the carnivoran record of Olduvai Gorge shows that the older stratigraphic levels (Bed I, 1.99–1.79 Ma) included a broader range of environments than Beds II or V, where there is an abundance of cats adapted to open environments.


In this manuscript has presented the results of applying modern methods of mathematical modeling in animal husbandry. To conduct the research has used the method of least squares, which has reflected in the work by approximation probabilistic non-linear relations, making it possible to establish the relationship between different measurements the body parts of animal and meat productivity, and linear measurements of the udder.

Background Although hyperlipidemia is known to augment the incidence of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) in the AngII-induced model of apolipoprotein E -/- mice, its relationship to AAA size is unknown. Therefore, we evaluated the relationship between total cholesterol concentration (TC) and change (delta) in aortic diameter. Methods TC was measured in 36 male mice that underwent a 4-week infusion period with saline (n=9) or AngII (1500 ng/kg/min; n=27), along with serial measurements of pulse rate (PR), and pulse (PP), mean arterial (MAP), systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) pressure. A linear mixed effect model was used to assess the relationship between all hemodynamic parameters and delta. Nonparametric and linear regression methods were used to evaluate TC in relation to delta. Results TC did not differ between AngII and control mice (Figure, bottom left) (p=0.18). The burden of atherosclerosis was greater among AngII-exposed mice versus control, but did not differ by presence or size of AAA (Figure, bottom right). None of the hemodynamic parameters were predictive of delta (SBP, p = 0.66; DBP, p = 0.66; MAP, p = 0.55; PP, p = 0.66; and PR, p = 0.39). Mean TC was higher among mice with large versus small AAA (552.6 vs. 393.5 mg/ ml, p<0.05; Figure, top right). The nonparametric smoothing line (Figure, top left) suggests a first order relationship between delta and TC (p for trend < 0.001). AngII (ß = 0.48, p < 0.001) and TC (ß = 0.0015, p = 0.003) were independent predictors in the linear model for delta. Conclusions Our findings suggest that TC is incrementally associated with AAA size. These findings may have potential clinical relevance for risk assessment in AAA patients. Figure

In this chapter, the relationship between public debt and economic growth is examined for OECD countries. In order to determine this relationship, the data between 2002 and 2016 is analyzed using panel threshold regression methods. The findings of the study suggest that the relationship between public debt and economic growth is linear. The public debt threshold is estimated at 99.75% for OECD countries but it is statistically insignificant. While the public debt to GDP ratio is both below and above this threshold, the effect of public debt on economic growth is negative and statistically significant. There is no evidence of the existence of a non-linear relationship between public debt and economic growth. These findings are expected to guide policymakers in the implementation of fiscal policies.
