The study of the degradation of the properties of subsiding soils under the conditions of technogenesis led to the need for searching the relationship betweenchanges in the soil physical properties, deformability, strength and its dispersity. Many researchers focus on the influence of the soil microstructure and its changes on the processes of deformation and collapse. Current models of the distribution of particles and pores in various soil media, cavities of various origin and cracks are based on the theory of fractals. Techniques for a practical application of the theory to estimating the scope of work, calculating the indicators, and engineering-geological forecasting are being developed. The previous studies showed that the theory of fractals, applied to the investigation of subsidence degradation, allowed an assessment of deformations arising from the decomposition of microaggregates in loess deposits of the city of Dnipro. A long period analysis of changes in the properties of loess deposits on the territory of the city of Kryvyi Rih showed that the changes in physical properties and conditions had a regional character. The paper presents the results of experimental studies of the microaggregate composition of loess samples taken in the depth interval of 1 - 7 m in the zone of influence of Kryvyi Rih. The microaggregate composition was determined by the new method, which we tested while studying the loess of the city of Dnipro. The total number of particle size analyses performed was 128. The results of the analyses were used to estimate the fractal dimension of the function of particle distribution by volume. The values of the function vary slightly, but the nature of the changes differs depending on the method of sample preparation for the analysis and its dispersity. Strength indexes have been determined with Physical. It has been shown that there is a correlation between the content of fine particles and the values of limiting tangential stresses Indicators of the physical condition are the repressors of tangential stress values. According to the results of the correlation analysis, the values of the soil density, the upper and lower limits of plasticity, and the content of particles with a size of 0.05-0.001 mm and less than 0.001 mm were selected as repressors.

Fine dust: (PM2.5, PM10) is a priority pollutant that contributes to the development of numerous dis-eases in urban areas. The purpose of this scientific work is to study the dispersed composition of dust parti-cles on the leaves of apricot trees (Prúnus armeníaca) in the residential zone of Volgograd. The novelty of the work lies in the study of the dispersed composition of dust particles on the leaves of apricot trees (Prúnus armeníaca) in the residential zone in the city of Volgograd near the construction industry enterprise, me-chanical engineering, leather production and railway transport line in comparison with the conditionally clean (control) zone of the SNT “Orocenets” ”(Sovetsky District, Volgograd) from the standpoint of random functions expressed by integral distribution curves of the mass of particles over their equivalent diameters. As a result of the research, the dispersed composition of dust on the leaves of apricot trees (Prúnus ar-meníaca) in the residential area of Volgograd was revealed. Fine particles were found: PM2.5, PM10 in each of the studied points, which by their values, both in their number and mass fraction, significantly exceed the data on fine dust in a conditionally clean area (control) in the SNT “Oroshanets” (Sovetsky district Volgo-grad), which creates certain environmental risks for local residents. The dispersed analysis of particles from the standpoint of random functions in the future will allow with a sufficiently high degree of accuracy to pre-dict the dust content of urban atmospheric air in the range of monthly and / or seasonal average values compared to the traditional measurement of fine dust concentration in atmospheric air of the urban environ-ment as the maximum single or daily average. At the same time, further studies of dust on the leaves of plants in an urban environment, namely, the study of the density of its sedimentation, will also reveal a group of ur-ban plants that are best suited to retain PM2.5 and PM10 on leaf plates in this region, which can significantly increase the quality of the atmospheric air of the urban environment and be of a recommendatory nature for the state-owned landscaping services of the city of Volgograd when improving the green areas of a megacity.

AbstractChalcogenide semiconductors and glasses have many applications in the civil and military fields, especially in relation to their electronic, optical and mechanical properties for energy conversion and in enviormental materials. However, they are much less systemically studied and their fundamental physical properties for a large class chalcogenide semiconductors are rather scattered and incomplete. Here, we present a detailed study using well defined first-principles calculations on the electronic structure, interatomic bonding, optical, and mechanical properties for 99 bulk chalcogenides including thirteen of these crytals which have never been calculated. Due to their unique composition and structures, these 99 bulk chalcogenides are divided into two main groups. The first group contains 54 quaternary crystals with the structure composition (A2BCQ4) (A = Ag, Cu; B = Zn, Cd, Hg, Mg, Sr, Ba; C = Si, Ge, Sn; Q = S, Se, Te), while the second group contains scattered ternary and quaternary chalcogenide crystals with a more diverse composition (AxByCzQn) (A = Ag, Cu, Ba, Cs, Li, Tl, K, Lu, Sr; B = Zn, Cd, Hg, Al, Ga, In, P, As, La, Lu, Pb, Cu, Ag; C = Si, Ge, Sn, As, Sb, Bi, Zr, Hf, Ga, In; Q = S, Se, Te; $$\hbox {x} = 1$$ x = 1 , 2, 3; $$\hbox {y} = 0$$ y = 0 , 1, 2, 5; $$\hbox {z} = 0$$ z = 0 , 1, 2 and $$\hbox {n} = 3$$ n = 3 , 4, 5, 6, 9). Moreover, the total bond order density (TBOD) is used as a single quantum mechanical metric to characterize the internal cohesion of these crystals enabling us to correlate them with the calculated properties, especially their mechanical properties. This work provides a very large database for bulk chalcogenides crucial for the future theoretical and experimental studies, opening opportunities for study the properties and potential application of a wide variety of chalcogenides.

This paper examines the existing in the Russian Federation approaches to assessing the quality of the urban environment, the concept of the quality index of the urban environment; the analysis of indicators for calculating the quality index of the urban environment and the factors that form the ecological well-being of the urban environment for the local population has been carried out. The territory of the northern industrial hub of Volgograd was chosen as the object of research, in particular, the zone of influence of the ferrous metallurgy enterprise AO “VMK ‘Krasny Oktyabr’”, which has a historically specific location relative to the functional zones of the city. The analysis of the results of monitoring the content of mobile forms of heavy metals in the soil cover, carried out by the method of atomic absorption spectrometry, and the assessment of the general life state of tree green plantations in the territory of the sanitary protection zone of the enterprise based on the enumeration of trees is presented. The identified zone of influence of the enterprise, taking into account the presence of additional sources of pollution of the soil cover and MPC of metals, instead of their background concentrations, extends for 3.5–3.7 km from the border of the enterprise in the form of elongated areas of increased concentrations. Cartographic visualization reveals the presence of two clearly pronounced foci of pollution located to the west of the existing SOC of the enterprise. When assessing the general condition of trees, it is also possible to recognize the worst territory of the test plots located to the west of the operating TWCs in accordance with the directions of the prevailing winds. The data obtained confirm the feasibility of organizing regular monitoring of the soil cover and the state of green forests in the city as one of the directions for assessing the quality of the environment and taking these indicators into account when calculating the quality index of the urban environment.

The modern methods have been used to determine clothing comfort and physical properties of textile materials. Experimental studies are based on the basic principles of textile materials science.

One of the main problems to be solved by the transport operators is the substantiation of the vehicle models servicing the transport lines. A gametheoretical approach is proposed in this paper to justify the bus model choice based on the passengers’ preferences and the structure of the passenger flows. To estimate the customers’ preferences, the membership functions for fuzzy sets of the optimal vehicle models were defined. The simulation experiment aiming to estimate the city fleet structure in terms of the vehicles’ capacity was conducted for the Talas city (Kazakhstan) based on the proposed approach with use of the corresponding software implementation of the developed mathematical models. As a result of the experimental studies, the impact of the passengers’ flow structure and the number of carriers on the rational structure of the city bus fleet was studied in the paper.

Main goal: To analyze the level of the urban settlement system development of the Capital Socio-Geographical region by means of a cluster analysis method and by selecting the optimal number of capacitive indicators. It is assumed that the most significant characteristics, may be the most important and have a determining function. Methodology: The use of special statistical and mathematical methods of research, in particular, the method of cluster analysis is the basis of the study. This method has gained wide popularity for the study of both the general socio-economic development of the administrative-territorial units of the state and the corresponding systems of settlement of different taxonomic ranks. Cluster analysis is a research tool for analyzing data to solve classification problems. Its purpose is to sort cases into groups or clusters in such a way that the degree of dependency is strong between members within one cluster and weak between members of different clusters. The process of clustering involves the selection of optimal indicators, which most fully and objectively reflect the situation of the manifestation of a phenomenon in the studied area.Results: It is established that the presence of agglomerated settlements around the agglomeration center, namely the city of Kyiv, significantly increase its concentration potential, which leads to an increase in the area of both direct and indirect influence of the city center. Thus, the zone of influence of the city of Kyiv is not limited to the boundaries of the administrative Kyiv region, but extends beyond it, involving the territories of Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and, to a lesser extent, Vinnitsa and Poltava regions. Scientific novelty: The clusterization of administrative-territorial units of the Capital Socio-Geographical region is carried out. Clustering was based on the degree of manifestation in them of the main indicators of the development of regional urban settlement systems.It is revealed that the presence of agglomerated settlements around the agglomeration center, the city of Kiev, significantly increase its concentration potential, which leads to an increase in the area of both direct and indirect influence of the city center. Thus, the zone of influence of the city of Kyiv is no longer confined to the boundaries of the administrative Kyiv region, but extends beyond it, involving the territories of Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and, to a lesser extent, Vinnytsia and Poltava regions. The degree of localization of the urban population of the district and the cluster analysis of its administrative-territorial units in accordance with the levels of development of their settlement systems were considered to present the situation regarding the concentration of urban population of the Capital Socio-Geographical region. Practical relevance: Publication materials can be used in the development of measures to optimize the settlement system of the Capital Socio-Geographical region and to adjust the administrative and territorial reform of the state.

In order to control the chemical composition of atmospheric air in cities located in the zone of influence of petrochemical enterprises, automatic atmospheric air monitoring stations (ASKAV) are installed. For the effective use of experimental data, the authors of the article developed a data collection system with ASKAV, in which the air control in residential quarters and the gas mixture at the source of organized emissions are synchronized. The analysis of data on the concentration of pollutants in the atmospheric air of the Sterlitamak obtained from ASKAV, on the basis of which a list of marker substances for enterprises of the city was compiled. Priority sources of air pollution with marker substances during a different wind regime were identified. The authors developed models for changing the concentration of marker substances in the air using the method of factor regression. Based on the results of the cross-correlation function, the time of movement of the contaminated gas cloud from the source of emission to the residential area of the city is obtained. Conclusions are made about the effectiveness of the developed air monitoring system and the field of application of the acquired models.

Urban noise can interfere with avian communication through masking, but birds can reduce this interference by altering their vocalizations. Although several experimental studies indicate that birds can rapidly change their vocalizations in response to sudden increases in ambient noise, none have investigated whether this is a learned response that depends on previous exposure. Black-capped chickadees ( Poecile atricapillus ) change the frequency of their songs in response to both fluctuating traffic noise and experimental noise. We investigated whether these responses to fluctuating noise depend on familiarity with noise. We confirmed that males in noisy areas sang higher-frequency songs than those in quiet areas, but found that only males in already-noisy territories shifted songs upwards in immediate response to experimental noise. Unexpectedly, males in more quiet territories shifted songs downwards in response to experimental noise. These results suggest that chickadees may require prior experience with fluctuating noise to adjust vocalizations in such a way as to minimize masking. Thus, learning to cope may be an important part of adjusting to acoustic life in the city.

AbstractThis paper presents the biocorrosion of city sewer collectors impregnated with special polymer sulphur binders, polymerized sulphur, which is applied as the industrial waste material. The city sewer collectors are settled with a colony of soil bacteria which have corrosive effects on its structure. Chemoautotrophic nitrifying bacteria utilize the residues of halites (carbamide) which migrate in the city sewer collectors, due to the damaged dampproofing of the roadway and produce nitrogen salts. Chemoorganotrophic bacteria utilize the traces of organic substrates and produce a number of organic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, citric, oxalic and other). The activity of microorganisms so enables the origination of primary and secondary salts which affect physical properties of concretes in city sewer collectors unfavourably.
