This research studied the use of weapon lexicons in Arabic Proverbs (AP). The discussion aims to find the meaning interpretations of the use of weapon lexicons in AP and the moral messages reflected in there. The method used is descriptive qualitative method. The data collection was carried out by the observation method with note-taking technique. The data is obtained from the Mahfuzat Arabic Proverbs Dictionary. The results showed that there were three types of weapon used in AP, there are sword (As-saif, As-sharim), arrow (As-Sahmu, Al-Kana’in), and spear (al-Asnah). The figurative meaning of the weapon lexicons is a reflection of Arabic culture that likes to fight - in ancient times -. The moral messages contained in the AP with the weapon lexicons are 1) utilizing the time; 2) keeping the words; 3) be alert; 4) introspection; 5) creative thinking.

This research describes the breach of politeness in learning Indonesian in class VII-B MTs Muhammadiyah 3 Yanggong, Ponorogo Regency. In the Indonesian learning process, especially in the topic "Speaking Indonesian properly and correctly" students should use polite language whenever communicating to the teacher. However, there are still many students who break the principle of politeness. This research used descriptive qualitative method—data collection using the observation method with note-taking and recording techniques. The results of this study indicate that there is a violation of all politeness maxims in learning Indonesian. A form of violating the maxims of wisdom is that students do not respond to their teachers by answering unserious or joking. Flouting of generosity maxims is shown by how students convey their intentions or wishes emotionally. The students violate the maxims of approbation, in which students criticize directly or frankly. Violation of the maxims of modesty is delivered by underestimating the partner. Violation of the agreement's maxims is indicated by students' attitude who do not respect their teacher's orders by speaking in a rude Javanese speech style or ngoko. The students break the maxims of sympathy by boasting or praising themselves in front of their teachers and classmates.

This research discusses imagery, diction and figure of speech in a short story entitled “Jalan Gelap Langit Terang” written by Abdul Wachid. This short story is one of the author’s works in a short story anthology, Bacalah Cinta, published by BukuLaela in 2005. This research reveals some figure of speeches such as diction, imagery and elaboration employed by the author of the short story. This research applied both stylistic approach and descriptive qualitative method. Data collection was done by close reading observation and note taking. The result shows that the author takes the advantage of connotative, English and Indonesian diction in some sentences. The imagery employed by the author covers personification, hyperbole, metaphor, repetition, rhetoric, elypsis, and antithesis. Moreover, the author tends to show repetition and symblolism in his style.

This study aims to analyze the form of verbal and nonverbal texts in public service advertisements in the Regional Government of Bone Regency using the semiotics of CS Peirce. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data is sourced from text in the PSA of the Regional Government of Bone. The data collection procedures used in this study are recording and note taking techniques. The results showed that the verbal form of PSA Local Government uses the meaning of denotation and connotation, Bugis philosophical expressions. The nonverbal text forms are dominated by the photo of the head of Regional Government, because the photo has perfect representation ability, compared to other nonverbal elements. Photos of the Bone regent and deputy regent of Bone are as icons and the logo of the local government of Bone is as a symbol. The traditional clothing that is used and the traditional house that is the setting for PSA are as indexes.

This paper explores the renditions produced by the interpreters in sermon interpreting at ROCK Church Denpasar Bali. It aims at finding out and investigating the categories and the motives of the renditions produced by the interpreters in the setting under investigated. The method adopted for this study is a descriptive qualitative approach. The data of this study is based on six transcribed audio-video recordings of interpreter-mediated sermons on Sunday services, involving six visiting preachers, congregation, and three interpreters. The sermons are preached in English and interpreted short-consecutively into Indonesian. The data were collected through observation method which was applied at once with the implementation of note-taking technique, and were analyzed using the qualitative method and comparative technique. As a theoretical framework, the taxonomy of renditions proposed by Wadensjö (1998) has been utilized. The result of the study shows that there were eight categories of rendition produced by the interpreters in sermon interpreting on Sunday services at ROCK church Denpasar Bali. The categories of rendition produced by the interpreters were close renditions, expanded renditions, reduced renditions, substituted renditions, summarized renditions, two-part renditions, non-renditions, and zero renditions.

This paper is entitled Analysis of Slangs Used by Characters in Movie Script “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell”. The aims of this study are to identify and classify based on the types of slang word, this paper also described the context of situation of slang used in the movie script I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell. The data source was taken from the movie script I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009). The data collection was conducted through library research method and note taking technique. The first step was done through reading attentively, noting the slang word, and classifying based on the types of slang and context of situation. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method with the theory of Allan and Burridge (2006) for types of slang and theory of context of situation proposed by Holmes (2013). The result of analysis shows that there are four types of slang used by character in I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell movie script. Meanwhile, for the context of situation there are four components. The meaning behind each slang words and phrases in I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell movie script depends on the context of situation. Besides, the interpretation of meaning takes important roles in the analysis.

Abstract  : The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the social values contained in the Kasungki expression in the Muna Community of Karoo Village, Kontukowuna District. This research is a field research. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study are data in the form of spoken language which is spoken directly by parents (customary stakeholders). Sources of data in this study were obtained from customary and indigenous stakeholders in Karoo Village, Kontukowuna District. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interview, record, and note taking techniques. The results in this study were obtained from the social values contained in the expression of kasungki in the Muna Village Karoo community, Kontukowuna District which includes 1. cooperation, 2. care for the fate of others, 3. like to pray for others. Keywords: kasungki; value; social value

Talk shows on television today are programs that are of interest to television viewers in Indonesia. One of the talk shows that television viewers are interested in is the talk show Rumah Uya Trans7. The show is easily followed by the viewers. The speech acts used in the show are light and easy to understand. Another interesting issue is the speech acts are a violation of the politeness principle. Yet, this violation of the politeness principle is the one that makes the television viewers pay attention to the show. These violations of the politeness principle are very interesting to be analyzed. To find out the violation of the politeness principle in the show, the researcher used the theory of pragmatics and descriptive qualitative method. Data of this research were taken from the fragments of the show in the Rumah Uya Trans7 in November 2018. The source of the data was the speech acts in the program which contained violation of the politeness principle. The method of the research was the observation method (simak bebas libat cakap) and recording as well as note-taking techniques to collect the data. The result of the analysis showed that violation of politeness principle was found in the show in the form of violation of maxim of tact, maxim of sympathy, maxim of agreement, maxim of modesty, maxim of approbation, and maxim of feeling reticence. The suggestion for the deepening of the research is the existence of further research in violation of the politeness principle of similar shows but different television station as e media.

  Abstract This study is aimed at mapping the meaning of action verb provide and its translation in Indonesian lexicons. The data sources of this study are two Colours Magazines of Garuda Indonesia, May 2017 and March 2018 editions. In colleting the data, this study applied the observation method and note taking technique. Those data were analyzed using Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) approach proposed by Anna Wierzbicka (1996). Furthermore, the method of analyzing data was descriptive qualitative method. First, each of the data was analyzed to find its meaning configuration. Then, it was followed by the paraphrasing using semantic primitives to show the explication of each lexicon and be able to compare them. The results of this study shows that the action verb provide is translated into five different Indonesian lexicons in the Colours Magazine. The verb and its translations have slight differences shown by the meaning configurations as well as explications. However, they could properly deliver the intended meaning for the Indonesian target readers regarding the sentences they are in.

 AbstrakPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendeskripsikan proses pembentukan verba aktif dalam bahasa Indonesia dan proses pembentukan verba aktif dalam bahasa Jawa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana verba aktif dalam bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Jawa melalui kajian analisis kontrastif. Metode yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan teknik catat dengan data yang bersumber dari kamus bahasa Indonesia dan kamusbahasa Jawa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Indonesia memiliki sedikit prefiksasi pembentuk verba aktif daripada bahasa Jawa. Dalam bahasa Indonesia terdapat dua prefiks, sedangkan dalam bahasa Jawa terdapat empat prefiks.Kata Kunci: Prefiksasi, Verba Aktif, Kontrastif, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Jawa.   AbstractThis research was conducted to describe the process of forming active verbs in Indonesian and the process of forming active verbs in Javanese. This study aims to determine how active verbs in Indonesian and Javanese through contrastive analysis studies. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The data collection technique is using note taking technique with data sourced from Indonesian dictionary and Javanese language dictionary. The results showed that Indonesian had fewer active verb-forming prefixes than Javanese. [Title: The Use of Indonesian Language (Spelling) in the Official Outgoing Letters of Kesiman Kertalangu Village, district of Denpasar Timur, Denpasar]. The use of Indonesian language, especially the use of spelling in the official outgoing letters of Kesiman Kertalangu Village, district of Denpasar Timur, Denpasar, is still a lot of mistakes. In this research, the object of research is the spelling errors in Indonesian language. This research applied observation method and note-taking technique to collect the data, synchronic descriptive qualitative method was used to present the result of the analisis combined with inductive technique. In this research, some spelling errors were found. The errors found in the official outgoing letters of Kesiman Kertalangu village are error in using final stop (.), comma (,),hyphen (-), a slash (/), a colon (:), and error in using capital letters.
