This study characterized shell occupation by two species of hermit crabs and analysed the occurrence of ectosymbionts on their shells, in a comparative way. The hermit crabsClibanarius antillensisandCalcinus tibicenwere selected for this comparative study because of their abundance and wide distributions. Specimens were collected manually during spring low tides every 2 months, from February 2011 to January 2012 in north-eastern Brazil (03°S), and in south-eastern Brazil (23°S). The populations showed different patterns of shell occupation and ectosymbiont coverage. The plasticity of these ecological traits is discussed in a broad context and possibly correlated to habitat differences.

The paper consists of three methodologically and causally connected thematic parts: the first part deals with crucial motives and models of the privatization processes in the USA and EU with a particular analytical focus on the Herfindahl-Hirschman doctrine of the collective domination index, as well as on the essence of merger-acquisition and take-over models. The second thematic part of the paper, as a logical continuation of the first one represents a brief comparative analysis of the motives and models implemented in bank privatization in the south-eastern European countries with particular focus on identifying interests of foreign investors, an optimal volume and price of the investment, and assessment of finalized privatizations in those countries. The final part of the paper theoretically and practically stems from the first and the second part, in that way making an interdependent and a compatible thematic whole with them, presents qualitative and quantitative aspects of analyzing finalized privatization and/or sale-purchase of Serbian banks with particular focus on IPO and IPOPLUS as the prevailing models of future sale-purchase in privatizing Serbian banks.

The paper presents a comparative analysis of some selected Latvian and Russian paremias, the bulk of which has been collected in the time period since the 1970s till nowadays in the south-eastern part of Latvia – Latgale, and studied in the context of Latvian proverbs included in folklore collections and phraseological dictionaries, as well as the archival materials of the Latvian Academy of Sciences and works by Latvian folklorists. The aim of the study is to analyse prototypical paremias from the Holy Scripture and trace the history of their existence and further development among the Latvians and the Russians in the Latgale region based on the qualitative data analysis. The conducted research allows concluding that similar worldview patterns of the Latvians and the Russians are to be searched for in Christianity. The analysed proverbs testify to the fact that culture is a unifying factor for different ethnic groups living in the same region.

Introduction. The focus of this study is on the material culture of one of the major cities of south-eastern Taurika Sugdeja in the 12th and early 13th centuries, as well as archaeological sources that allow to highlight stratified archaeological complexes and horizons of that time. Special attention is paid to the justification of chronological indicators presented by household objects, decorations, objects of Christian cult and imported red clay glazed ceramics. The latter, based on modern chronological developments and the archaeological situation, is the most important indicator. It is common to combine this pottery into a group of Middle Byzantine Production (MBP). Methods. The standard methods, which are usually involved for the study of archaeological materials, are used in the work: stratigraphic, typological, and comparative. Analysis. The materials from decades of excavation in Sudak, which are stored in archives and museum repositories now, have been studied again. As a result, 5 sites with layers of the 12th – early / first half of the 13th centuries have been located in the different part of the medieval site, including the port area, as well as more than two dozen finds of the MBP were attributed. Results. The newly obtained data allowed us to conclude that Sugdeja occupied a rather large area during the studied period and the city continued to maintain contacts with the Central Byzantine lands during all this time. Moreover, the findings of different stylistic and chronological types of ceramics indicate the presence of such contacts both during the reign of the Komnenoi and Angeloi, and after the conquest of Constantinople by the Latins in 1204.

In recent years there are observed substantial changes in epidemiology of head and neck cancer. An incidence of laryngeal cancer is declining as a consequence of decreased tobacco smoking. Contrary, oropharyngeal cancer associated with HPV infection transmitted on sexual way is becoming much more frequent. The latter one is characterized with a better prognosis that most likely does not require intensive therapy. De-escalation of therapy in case of HPV-associated tumor is a matter of current studies.

The paper analyses the attempt to construct a dominant discourse on the Krashovani in South-eastern Europe, or rather, the inter-relationship between discursive practices about said community in different states that show interest in it. This ethnic community has great symbolic, and as such, political potential which can be used to reinvigorate the national mythologies of interested nations. Through a comparative analysis of scientific discussions and popular-scientific literature, an attempt is made at recognizing, abstracting and systematizing all factors, means and strategies which are used for this purpose. Special focus has been put on the changes in dominant paradigms – the relationship between an historical and an ahistorical approach.

Detailed distribution pattern of colubrid snakes in Serbia is still inadequately described, despite the long historical study. In this paper, we provide accurate distribution of seven species, with previously published and newly accumulated faunistic records compiled. Comparative analysis of faunas among all Balkan countries showed that Serbian colubrid fauna is among the most distinct (together with faunas of Slovenia and Romania), due to small number of species. Zoogeographic analysis showed high chorotype diversity of Serbian colubrids: seven species belong to six chorotypes. South-eastern Serbia (Pčinja River valley) is characterized by the presence of all colubrid species inhabiting our country, and deserves the highest conservation status at the national level. This study should provide the basis for further, more comprehensive faunistic research, as the data on distribution of colubrid species in our country are far from complete, with large distribution “gaps”, especially in northern and central parts of Serbia.
