Modern educational technologies are considered, examples of their use in the engineering training system are given. The low efficiency of the traditional form of teaching engineering disciplines is shown. The ambiguity of the classification of pedagogical technologies and their choice for the training of engineering personnel is underscored. Application of the soft-ware in the educational process allows individualizing the learning process and improving the effectiveness of independent work of students. An important role in the organization of the educational process is played by information and communication technologies.

The “information revolution” has not only transformed the world as we know it, but also its future potential. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), with their major technological advances, have affected the lives and lifestyles of people across the globe, as well as the way institutions and organizations do business. However, not all outcomes of the spread of information technologies have been positive. A majority of the world’s population, especially those who live in poverty, have been largely bypassed by this revolution. The gap between them and the rest of the world has expanded precisely as a result of the facilitation capacity of these technologies for those who have access to them (Figueres, 2003). The majority of these people are situated in the African continent and other developing countries.

This new era has witnessed a massive proliferation of various information and communication technologies (ICTs) the world over opening novel prospects for information storage, retrieval and analysis. Such novel prospects are not only being used for decision making by private sector industries but also more interest has been demonstrated in investing in technologies for public administration purposes. In the Indian context, the driving force behind an increasing use of ICTs for public administration include such objectives as improving and simplifying governance, instilling transparency and eliminating corruption and bureaucracy. The massive proliferation of ICTs in India has led to a transformation from traditional governance to e-governance. Several planning projects have been launched under the rubric of e-governance and have witnessed novel use of various information technologies, GIS being one of them. This study focuses on the Nirmala Nagara project (NNP), a programme launched by the Government of Karnataka to address issues of urban development using GIS with municipal e-governance being one of its key agendas. This is one of the most ambitious Municipal e-Governance projects in the country encompassing 213 urban local bodies. This article is an initial effort towards a larger project that will focus on the process of GIS spatial knowledge production situated in contemporary India.

The relevance of the study is explained by the need to increase the level of teaching Physics, to identify and develop creative abilities of both schoolchildren and students, future teachers of Physics. The preparation for Olympiads and their holding helps to raise interest in Physics. The analysis of scientific sources shows that, despite the interest of scientists in the problem of organising and improving the preparation of students for the Physics Olympiads, this problem needs further study. In particular, the pedagogical conditions for preparing students for the Physics Olympiads have not been identified; effective methods, forms and means of teaching, possibilities of information and communication technologies aimed at training students for the Physics Olympiads have not been sufficiently studied, which is especially relevant in distance training. The purpose of the study is to identify and implement pedagogical conditions for training students majoring in Secondary Education (Physics) at Ushynsky University, to develop skills in solving school Olympiad problems. In accordance with the set goal, pedagogical conditions for preparing future Physics teachers to solve school Olympiad problems have been identified and introduced into the educational process, namely: creation of interactive interaction between teachers and students in the process of solving Olympiad problems; use of modern Internet technologies, distance learning methods in the educational environment as an important factor in intensifying independent work in the process of profession-oriented training in solving school Olympiad problems. According to students, the introduction of certain pedagogical conditions contributed to increasing the level of profession-oriented training aimed at future teachers of Physics, the development of these skills: the ability to interest students in Physics; create an atmosphere of emotional enthusiasm in teaching Physics; teach basic algorithms and approaches to solving non-standard problems; to teach non-standard thinking and initiative not only in solving physical problems, but also in solving life situations; to increase the level of knowledge of English in a professional direction.

Key conclusions: information and communication technologies include the integration of methodological techniques, technological processes, software and hardware that interact with each other in the process of using information for a specific purpose, determined by the interests of its consumers; the advantages of information and communication technologies in educational activities are the expansion of the possibilities of the educational process, the development of positive educational motivation and interest of students, an increase in the quality of knowledge, etc.

In the concept of the Ukrainian education modernization new priorities have been identified. The leading aspect is the preparation of the younger generation for life in a rapidly changing information society, in the world where there is a constant need for new professions and continuous professional development. In the modern system of education there is a situation, when the established methods, techniques and forms of education require interpretation, correction and new pedagogical solutions. This is primarily due to the widespread introduction and wide use of information and communication technologies. The process of education informatization is quite complex and requires a rethinking of experience while implementing innovative information technologies analysis and evaluation of opportunities of their use in the learning process. That causes the necessity of a new level of studying the subjects in order to develop each student’s steady willingness and ability to learn independently-acquired knowledge, creative approach to the implementation of learning tasks. The use of new information technologies in teaching is one of the most important aspects of improving and optimizing the educational process, enriching the arsenal of methodological tools and techniques that allow diversifying the forms of work and making the learning process of a foreign language interesting and memorable for students. So a contemporary teacher should not only have knowledge in the field of new informational technologies. The purpose of the article is to investigate existing innovative SMART tools which English teachers can use as a part of their professional activity, disclose the essence of these instruments and benefits of using them in the teaching process. Using SMART tools in the process of teaching a foreign language reveals the enormous capabilities of the computer as an effective means of learning. SMART tools allow you to train different types of speech activity and combine them in different combinations, understand the language phenomena, contribute to the formation of linguistic abilities, create communicative situations, automate linguistic and speech actions, as well as ensure the implementation of an individual approach and the intensification of the independent work of students.
