The paper is focused on improving the technology of storing strawberries. It has been investigated how pretreatment of berries with aqueous solutions of low-molecular-weight chitosan of three concentrations (0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%) affects the quality parameters of strawberries during refrigeration. The treated berries and the reference (untreated sample) were stored in 500 g perforated plastic containers at 0±2°C for 14 days. It has been found that strawberries treated with chitosan solutions had significantly smaller weight loss than the reference. At the end of storage, this parameter was 9.7% in the reference and 7.0–8.6% in the treated berries. It has been established that the respiration rate of the strawberries decreased sharply on the first day, which was caused by refrigerated storage, and continued to decline until the end of storage. Finally, this parameter attained the value 3.3 mg CO2/kg-1h-1in the reference and 2.2–3.0 mg CO2/kg-1h-1 in the treated berries. The hardness of the strawberries at the end of storage was 0.10–0.14 kg/cm2. The change in the lustre level of the berries has been observed. It has been established that on the 14th day of storage, the surface of the untreated berries was dull. The best characteristics have been observed for treatment at the chitosan concentration 0.5%. The effect of chitosan films on the sensory characteristics of berries has been investigated. It has been found that the pretreatment did not impair the taste of the berries. The results of the tasting evaluation indicate that the taste, aroma, and colour were better in the variants with the treatment concentrations 0.3 and 0.5%. However, as for the appearance and consistency, the experts preferred the berries treated at the concentration 0.5%. After two weeks’ storage, the strawberries have been found to be damaged by four fungal diseases. The infections found in the samples were Botrytis cinerea (grey mould), Rhizopus stolonifer (black mould), Whetzelinia sclerotiorum (white mould), and Penicillium spp. It has been established that pretreatment of strawberries with chitosan solutions reduces the development of phytopathogenic diseases. It has been shown that chitosan-based edible coatings have a positive effect on strawberries, increasing their shelf life and improving their quality. A conclusion has been drawn about the technology of application of chitosan solutions and about their concentrations.

The production technology of high-quality vodka used in Russia involves filtration through activated charcoal. To approach the quality of renowned Russian vodka, one prominent Czech spirit-producing company installed on its production premises a filtration device including a charcoal column, and launched test runs during which different filtration conditions were tested. Samples collected during the test runs were analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS with the aim to compare their composition; sensory analysis was an integral part of the evaluation. The results documented a positive effect of charcoal filtration on the quality of produced vodka, which was not reduced when higher flow rates were applied.

Present study points out the impact of Lockdown on the health of the Yamuna river at Delhi stretch by comparing prelockdown and Post-lockdown period by studying the reports of pollution monitoring agencies. Delhi segment of the Yamuna is highly polluted, where alongwith domestic sewage a huge quantity of industrial waste is being discharged continuously without proper treatment. Pre lockdown (March 2020) water quality parameters at three sampling stations named as Palla, Nizammuddin Bridge and Okhla barrage U/s in Delhi were, pH were 8.7, 7.3 and 7.2, DO were 17.1 mg/L, not detected in later two sites, BOD were 7.9 mg/L, 57 mg/L and 27 mg/L and COD were 28 mg/L, 90 mg/L and 95 mg/L respectively and postlockdown period (April 2020) the pH was 7.8, 7.2 and 7.1, DO was 8.3 mg/L, 2.4 mg/L and 1.2 mg/L BOD was 2 mg/L, 5.6 mg/ L and 6.1 mg/L and COD were 6 mg/L, 16 mg/L and 18 mg/L respectively. The study of these parameters at three sampling stations reveals that the lack of industrial pollutants discharging due to nationwide lockdown for COVID-19 pandemic had positive effect on water quality of this river. Water quality could be maintained by planned establishment of industries and setup of ETP with without gap between generation and treatment.

A field experiment was conducted at Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) to observe the response of N, P, K and S on a pre?released white jute (Corchorus capsularis) var. BJC?2197. The experiment was carried out by applying N, P, K, S fertilizers in ten combinations including control. From the experiment it was observed that all the treatments had significant positive effect over control on growth, yield and quality parameters. The highest fiber yield (3.21 t/ha) and stick yield (6.58 t/ha) were recorded with N90P5K30S10 kg/ha treatment. However, the best quality fiber was found with combination of N90P15K30S10 kg/ha treatment. From the economic analysis point of view, it was found that combination of N90P5K30S10 kg/ha was higher (2.30) than N90P15K30S10 kg/ha (2.04). So the former can be considered as the best combination for var. BJC?2197 in terms of BCR, yield and quality. Dhaka Univ. J. Biol. Biological preservation methods with bacterial antagonists have emerged as alternatives to chemical sanitizers for extending shelf-life and reducing the population of pathogenic microorganisms. In addition, calcium plays an important role in maintaining the quality of fruit, and postharvest calcium treatments might determine the potential of fruit for processing. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the postharvest application of calcium and biopreservation with the CPA-7 strain of Pseudomonas graminis on the quality parameters of fresh-cut pears. After harvest, whole pears were dipped in calcium chloride solution (1%, w/v) or water (control) for 10 min at 25 ℃ and stored for five months at temperatures ranging from 0 to −0.5 ℃. Both batches of fruit were minimally processed and dipped in a solution containing CPA-7 and an antioxidant solution or kept untreated, and both groups were stored at 4 ℃ for six days. The postharvest calcium treatment had no remarkable effect on the quality of the whole and fresh-cut pears. The enzymatic activities (PPO, PME and PG) related to browning and softening were constant in fresh-cut pears after storage, and the application of P. graminis CPA-7 had a positive effect on the activity of PPO. Finally, a combined effect of the biocontrol agent and calcium treatment was not demonstrated.

The Effects of Crossing Balkan and Saanen Goat Breeds on Carcass Traits and Certain Quality Parameters of Kid MeatThe possibility for improvement of carcass traits and quality of kid meat of the autochthonous Balkan goat breed by crossing with Saanen breed was investigated in this study. The trial was carried out on one group of Balkan goat kids and three groups of kid crosses of Balkan and Saanen goats with different proportion of Saanen genes: 25, 50 and 75%. Each group had 16 male kids, which were slaughtered at the average body weight of 18 kg. With the increase in the proportion of Saanen genes, the age of kids that reached preslaughter weight decreased, the chilling loss increased and the proportion of fat tissue (kidney and pelvic fat) in the carcass side decreased (P≤0.05). The crossing also increased the proportion of carcass parts of the first category (leg and loin section), as well as muscle tissue in those parts. The highest proportion of muscle tissue in the thigh (74.91%) and loin section (75.66%) was determined in kids from the group with 75% of Saanen genes, and kids from this group also had the highest proportion of intramuscular fat (2.48%) in samples of m. longissimus dorsi. Slight differences between kid groups were established in indicators of technological meat properties, such as water binding capacity and tenderness, with the increase in the proportion of Saanen genes in the genotype. Sensory score for roasted meat was high, and scores for tenderness and juiciness were slightly higher in kid crosses with 50% and 75% of Saanen genes (P≤0.05). Results presented in this study confirm the positive effect of crossing the Saanen breed with the Balkan breed on carcass traits and for obtaining meat of more desirable quality.

The research was carried out in a commercial apple orchard in southeastern Poland. The aim of the research was to evaluate the effect of fertilizer with biostimulation and humic acids with algae extracts and agrogel on the reception and growth of newly planted maiden apple trees of the ‘Gala Must’ variety. One-year-old budwoods were planted annually on the site where fruit trees had grown for 20 years. For the purpose of the experiment, old trees were grubbed up every year in autumn. The experiment assessed the growth and quality of apple trees in the fall of the first year after planting them permanently using a biostimulator in the form of fertilizer and agrogel. On the basis of 3-year studies, it was shown that the application of the assessed preparations had a positive effect on the quality parameters of the trees. The experiment showed the positive effect of the preparation with biostimulation on the best growth and quality parameters every year, which was confirmed by the multidimensional cluster analysis. The fact that the use of agrogel significantly modified the height of the evaluated apple trees in the second year of the study, when lower amounts of rainfall were recorded, is particularly noteworthy.

The experiment was conducted to find out the effect of variety, nitrogen level and harvesting time on yield and seed quality of barley. The treatments used in the experiment consisted of two varieties viz. BARI Barley 4 and BARI Barley 5, three harvesting time viz. 35, 40 and 45 Days after Anthesis (DAA) and nitrogen levels viz. 0, 70, 85 and 100 kg N ha-1 . The experiment was laid out in a spilt- spilt-plot design with three replications assigning the variety to the main plot, harvesting time to the sub-plots and nitrogen level to the sub-sub plots. Variety had significant effects on the all yield attributes except fertile seeds spike-1 . Seed quality parameters viz. normal seeds spike-1 , deformed seeds spike-1 , germination (%) and vigour index were statistically significant. The variety BARI Barley 5 produced higher grain yield and seed quality than BARI Barley 4. Grain yield from BARI Barley 5 and BARI Barley 4 were 4.59 t ha-1 and 4.24 t ha-1 , respectively. Significantly, the highest 1000-seed weight (46.90 g) was produced by BARI Barley 5 than (37.90 g) BARI Barley 4. The result revealed that harvesting time had significant effect on yield and yield attributes and seed quality parameters. Seed yield was highest (4.65 t ha-1 ) when the crop harvested at 40 DAA and it was increased linearly from 35 DAA. Maximum quality seed and 1000-seed weight (43.20 g) was obtained when the crop harvested at 40 DAA. All the yields, yield attributes and seed quality parameters were significantly influenced by nitrogen levels. The highest grain yield (5.14 t ha-1 ) was obtained when BARI Barley 5 variety was fertilized by 100 kg N ha-1 and the lowest (3.14 t ha-1 ) was obtained from control treatments. Normal seeds spike-1 , vigour index, germination (%) were better at 85 kg N ha-1 in variety of BARI Barley 5 than BARI Barley 4. So it can be concluded that BARI Barley 5 showed better result when fertilized with 100 kg N ha-1 and harvested at 40 DAA for getting maximum yield and 85 kg N ha-1 and harvested at 40 DAA for getting better quality seed.

This article assesses the reliability, constructive validity and reproducibility of a special questionnaire for determining the quality parameters of rendering physiotherapeutic care to patients with chronic generalized periodontitis. The analysis of literary sources showed that there are studies of quality of dental services, however, we have not met with research into the quality and comfort of physiotherapy procedures for periodontal patients. At the same time, the importance of this issue is obvious and requires study and analysis. Without making judgments about the quality of the service, a full-fledged medical dental procedure can not take place. The assortment of physical devices and methods grows annually, their use in the periodontoloical treatment is not always sufficiently justified, the effectiveness is not always confimed therefore it is important to pay attention not only to the marketing efforts directed by the clinics for comfort, but also to analyze the ideas about the quality of the clinical characteristics of physiotherapeutic procedures.
