The speed of development and transformation of modern society is directly related to the conditions in which people live. The development of science and technology leads to transformations in social structures. The article analyzes the concept of social readiness in relation to the consequences of a number of social transformations, in particular, the coronavirus infection pandemic. Connections, interactions and relationships in all spheres of society have changed dramatically over the past year. These changes in the article are compared with the consequences of the Spanish Flu pandemic, which took place more than a hundred years ago. The article reveals the peculiarities of the perception of quarantine measures, distance learning and other consequences of self-isolation due to coronavirus infection by various categories of citizens, these conclusions are made based on the analysis of qualitative and quantitative sociological data. When disclosing the concept of «social readiness», attention is paid to both internal and external factors - factors of the social environment. Among the external factors, as an example, the measures introduced after the start of the pandemic by the governments of different countries, including the Russian Federation, are given in relation to various categories of citizens. Elderly citizens, the working-age population and students are the object of research of this article. The features of the perception of work in the online format, compulsory and voluntary self-isolation, distance education in departmental and civil universities by students are considered. The empirical basis of the work was semi-structured interviews with representatives of these social groups, a questionnaire survey among one of the categories of citizens, as well as a secondary analysis of sociological research. The conducted research allowed us to conclude that the age and perception of the threat of coronavirus infection for oneself are important internal factors affecting social readiness for the consequences of the pandemic; among the external factors, socialization agents and government measures have a great influence. Promising directions for further research are indicated.

The traditional college English intensive reading class is mostly taught by teachers, students are passive learners, and the learning atmosphere is serious and the study is inefficient, which cannot meet the high requirements of modern society for the practical knowledge and ability of contemporary college students. The traditional class education mode should now been changed. In English intensive reading class, students show negative participation or even non-participation, so the teacher has become the master of English class teaching. The communication between students and teachers in speech, behavior and emotion is not ideal, therefore, on the basis of the inability to interact, teaching becomes more boring, students are more reluctant to participate in it. To solve this problem, the author tries to analyze the internal factors that influence students’ effective participation in intensive reading class, and external factors affecting students’ effectiveness. The effective participation strategies are put forward.

The authors substantiate the relevance of the study of the processes of digitalization of modern society. They show that the main factor of transformation in all spheres is information technology, which is the driver of the next industrial revolution. The researchers prove that at the current stage of social development the level of ICT development is one of the key indicators of the competitiveness of national economies. The article presents a number of examples of developed and developing countries where programs and strategies for the development of digital economies are already being implemented. The authors review similar programs and projects implemented in Belarus, analyze the experience of the Belarusian state in the development of infrastructure conditions and the legal framework on the way to the creation of an IT-country. The thesis that the process of digitalization of the economy, society and the state, on the one hand, opens up Windows of opportunity and growth for economic and social actors; on the other hand, it leads to the emergence of new, as yet unexplored, risks and threats. The advantages of sociological science as a tool to explore these new opportunities and risks based on the assessment and expectations of the population are shown. The sociological concepts "standard of living" and "quality of life" are considered and compared, the authors offer their interpretations of these notions. They prove that modern rapidly digitizing communities have access to the latest technologies and the ability to use them become powerful factors affecting the living standards and quality of life of individuals. The scientists investigate a number of contradictions preventing improvement of quality of life in the conditions of increasing digitalization of social processes, namely: unevenness of development of ICT in different spheres of activity of society and higher rates of development of technologies in comparison with the speed of their development by the population. On the base of analysis of statistical information and sociological research data the authors point out the factors reducing the digital readiness of the population including insufficient computer and digital literacy of the population, psychological conservatism, fear of facing threats to information security, lack of confidence in the usefulness and practical applicability of new knowledge. The researchers also formulate prospects of further research within the given problematics.

For the world community UNESCO has developed international standards of media information literacy, which have been adopted by all UNESCO member countries. In Central Asia, Kazakhstan was the first to deal with these issues 10 years ago. The group of scientists of the Kazakh National University named by al-Farabi is working on studying this issue. Most of the scientific works on media education are aimed at justifying the need for media education in modern society and its value. The purpose of the article is the development of methodological materials on the formation of literacy in the field of media and information literacy for training target groups and informing the public. The authors of this article apply the methodology of comparative historical research, the methodology and technique of sociological research, the systemic and structural-functional approach in combination with comparative historical method and statistical data analysis, as well as the study of official documents characterizing the policy of international community and Kazakhstan. Also, content analysis and qualitative documents analysis, as well as comparative research methods, were used. As a result of the research, it was concluded that any conceptual design, scientific paradigm suffers to some extent with idealization and the conceptual approach of UNESCO discussion formed the basis for this review, causing positive expectations. However, media is not always socially-oriented tool. It is clear that in this scenario, it is not necessary to rely solely on the consciousness of journalists and self-censorship of editors. However, understanding the principal approaches of UNESCO and following the recommendations developed can control risks and contribute to the development of a full-fledged civil society. Practical significance of the research lies in the possibility of using its results in the field of media, psychology, pedagogy, culture, history, journalists, political scientists, social engineers, teachers, students and post-graduate students of universities. The results of the research can be integrated into the educational and upbringing processes. It is necessary to train target groups for the further dissemination and training of media and information literacy and to address the issues of forming a civic position in Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the article is to analyze the current state of healthcare in Russia. Scientific novelty of the study: the authors suggest that the efficiency of the health care system depends on the state of such indicators of public health as life expectancy and healthy life expectancy. Life expectancy is an integrated demographic indicator that characterizes the number of years that a person would live on average, provided that the age-specific mortality rate of a generation would be at the level for which the indicator was calculated throughout life. The indicator ‘healthy life expectancy’ is formed by subtracting the number of years of unhealthy life (due to chronic diseases, disabilities, mental and behavioral disorders, etc.) from the life expectancy indicator. Results: the article presents an analysis of the current state of Russian healthcare based on statistical data provided by the Federal State Statistics Service, the World Health Organization, and world rankings. Attention is focused on the perceptions of Russians about the quality of medical services and Russian healthcare. Conclusions about the current state of health care in Russia are formulated by the authors, based on a secondary analysis of statistical data, as well as data from sociological research presented by leading Russian sociological centers.
