Based on histological analysis of the ovaries of sockeye salmon spawners in the Kamchatka River, numerous abnormalities leading to resorption are shown in the structure of vitellogenic oocytes. Fertility of mature female sockeye salmon decreases due to the resorption of the vitellogenic oocytes. Presence of ovaries with abnormal oocytes implies oocyte resorption in fish being a phenomenon associated with mechanism of natural regulation of final fertility. Such mechanism is required in view of changing fish body length and weight in the sockeye salmon of the Kamchatka River. Numerous abnormalities in the ovaries indicate of a decreasing reproductive capacity of spawners and commercial quality of the eggs.

Two groups of juvenile sockeye salmon are feeding in Lake Azabachye. They belong to the 2nd order stock of the lake (stock A) and to other 2nd order stocks of middle and down stream tributaries of the Kamchatka River which underyearlings migrate into the lake for feeding and wintering (group E). The main part of the stock A leaves the lake to the sea at the age 2+ (mainly 2.3) and the youngsters of the group E migrate to the sea at the age 1+ (mainly 1.3). The body length and weight parameters of the stock A smolts at the age 2+ and the group E smolts at the age 1+ could be similar or dissimilar in particular years. The maximal difference between the smots of these stocks is observed in the years with higher body length and weight for the stock A. Mean for 1979–2016 length and weight of smolts at abovementioned ages are evaluated as 98.42/87.46 mm and 10.40/7.38 g for the A/E stocks. For the stock A, statistically signifcant positive correlation is noted between size-weight parameters of smolts in the years of emigration and their abundance in the years of mass return. However, the regression has a shift between the periods of emigration/return of 1979–2000/1982–2003 and 2003–2013/2006–2016. The correlation is higher for the frst period (r = 0.820; P < 0.001 for body weight and r = 0.797; P < 0.001 for body length, n = 16) than for the second one with higher abundance (r = 0.669; P < 0.05 for body weight and r = 0.711; P < 0.05 for body length, n = 11). On opposite, the returns of the group E depend weakly on size-weight parameters of its smolts for the period of emigration/return of 1979–1997/1982–2000 (no data for return in 1999) and the dependence is insignifcant for the period of 2000–2013/2003–2016.

Chicken meat is a food of high nutritional quality; its production requires birds called broilers breeders and looking after all aspects that influence their reproductive capacity. An ongoing controversy exists among researchers related to the weight of the rooster and its fertilization capacity. By histological and biochemical tests, the association between weight and age with oxidant damage, testicular parenchyma and antioxidant capacity was evaluated in Ross 308 roosters. Testicular integrity was assessed by histological analysis, oxidative stress was determined by malondialdehyde content, non-enzymatic antioxidant capacity was determined by oxygen radical absorbance capacity assay and enzymatic antioxidant capacity through glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase and glutathione-S-transferase activities. Histological analysis showed vacuolization of the epithelium from the seminiferous tubules. A significant negative association was observed between malondialdehyde and the deterioration of the integrity of the seminiferous epithelium, as well as between age and integrity of the seminiferous epithelium. It became evident that oxidative damage directly affects the quality of testicular parenchyma. Weight and age were not associated with the antioxidant enzymes activities, but with non-enzymatic capacity. The data obtained suggest that weight is not the most important factor that influences the fertility of the rooster.

When studying indicators that characterize the quality of meat and its nutritional value as part of the development and improvement of existing research methods, histological analysis of the tissues included in it becomes increasingly important. Histological method has been used to study the microstructure of muscle tissue (m. longissimus dorsi) and chemical composition in sheep of diff erent genotypes and reared at diff erent feeding levels. It has been found that the muscle tissue of sheep obtained from crossbreeding of breeds North Caucasus (SC) with Texel (T) has been characterized by a large amount of muscle fi bers by 5,0 and 11,3 % (P < 0,05), the smaller amount by 5,7 and 18,6 % (P < 0,05) in diameter, a higher “marbling” score by 5,2 and 8,3 points, and the lower content of connective tissue by 0,8 and 1,3 abs.% compared to purebreds North Caucasian and from crossbreeding North Caucasian with Poll Dorset breed (PD). Chemical analysis of meat revealed a tendency to increase the content of dry matter and fat by 1,1 and 0,1 abs. % in lamb genotype T×SC and less than the amount by 1,1 and 0,1 abs.% moisture compared to purebreds and PD×SC. Increasing the energy supply of sheep, regardless of breed affi liation, contributes to the formation by 10 % more number of muscle fi bers per unit area and the decrease in their diameter, which increases the “marbling” of lamb and increases its consumer quality. The results have been obtained indicate the feasibility of using morphometric indicators of muscle tissue in the development of criteria for assessing the quality of sheep meat productivity, intended for practical use in agriculture and the meat industry.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to describe histological traits of the graft welding process and evaluate the effect of rootstocks on the physical and chemical traits and the productivity of sour passion fruit populations. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design, in a 4x2 + 4 factorial scheme (cultivars / canopy x rootstocks), three replicates and nine plants per plot. Commercial cultivars and populations and Passiflora alata and P. nitida rootstocks, in addition to ungrafted plants were used as canopy. Cleft grafting was the grafting type adopted. Traits analyzed such as productivity and physical and chemical quality of fruits were submitted to analysis of variance and compared by the Tukey test. The canopy morphology was evaluated according to descriptors of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. Grafting was carried out for each graft/rootstock combination for histological analysis. Sections were obtained by freehand cuts, stained and mounted on semi-permanent slides, examined under optical microscope and photomicrographed. Rootstocks affected the early cultivation and reduced productivity and number of fruits of passion fruit populations. Grafting did not affect the quality of fruits or the canopy morphology. Considering the complete culture cycle, P. alata species is able to be used as rootstock. The anatomical study demonstrates the occurrence of better compatibility in the connection of P. edulis tissues on P. alata, compared to grafting on P. nitida.

Hatchery and culture technology of Humpback grouper has been developed. However,  sometimes it is still found constraint in sedd production and caused instability of production due to failure by many factors. Breeding program become necessary to provide seed with high quality and good genetic variation. Quantitative characteristic selection is one of breeding program to improve productivity in grouper aquaculture. The aim of this research was to produce good phenotyphic and genotypic quality of Humpback grouper candidate broodstock. Selection of Humpback grouper F1 and F3 was done based on quantitative characteristic (body length and weight) and genotyphic characteristic by using ramdom amplified polymorphism DNA (RAPD) method.  The results of conventional selection were found candidate broodstock of Humpback grouper F1 and F3 with body weight range from 170-210 g and 160-170 g consecutively.  Heterozygosity values of Humpback grouper analized by RAPD of F1 and F3 were 0.7940 and 0.7749 consecutively and it was not significantly different. This value emphasis that population of this F3 Humpback grouper was still good to grow for broodstock. Keywords: genetic variation, humpback grouper, F1, F3.

The combined dyshormonal pathology of the uterus and mammary glands represents a great danger to the health of a woman, as well as impairs the quality of life, reduces the reproductive capacity of a woman and leads to premature loss of reproductive function. Steroid hormones play a large role in the regulation of proliferative changes in the uterus and mammary glands. Regulation of target organs, uterus and mammary glands, due to the presence of common mechanisms associated with the presence of the receptor apparatus in the tissues of these organs to sex hormones. The general links of pathogenesis and the high frequency of combined pathology of the uterus and mammary glands are of interest to study not only isolated forms of proliferation, but also the development of a unified systematic approach to the study of this pathology. In recent times, there are opposing views on the role of hormonal dysfunction as a factor in proliferative processes. The management tactics of patients with pathological changes in the mammary gland in various gynecological diseases is an assessment of endocrine status, normalization of hormonal and metabolic disorders, especially when progesterone and cortisol are excreted, testosterone levels are increased, and hyperprolactinemia is affected. Special attention should be paid to patients with menstrual disorders, reproductive health disorders. We believe that the problem of the hyperproliferative processes of the uterus and mammary glands should not be considered only from the perspective of gynecological or mammological practice. This pathology is polymorphic and should have broad interdisciplinary connections with such disciplines as oncology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, psychiatry, therapy, pathomorphology, histology, obstetrics and gynecology. Only by studying all possible links of etiopathogenesis, by combining interdisciplinary communication, it is possible to effectively fight for the quality of patients with a combined pathology of the uterus and mammary glands. Family planning, prevention of unplanned pregnancy, timely implementation of maternity, prevention of miscarriage, the use of modern contraceptives, support for breastfeeding is also of high importance for the prevention of disorders and the preservation, extension of reproductive capabilities, and the prevention of combined dyshormonal pathology of the uterus and breast.

Abstract Aim Demonstrate the performance and safety of TISSIUM on-demand activated adhesive for atraumatic hernia mesh fixation in a laparoscopic IPOM porcine model. Material and Methods Full thickness 4 cm in diameter excisional abdominal defects (n = 14) were created in pig (n = 8). The defects were repaired through laparoscopic intraperitoneal mesh placement using commercial composite meshes fixed with TISSIUM adhesive (n = 8) or resorbable tacks (n = 6). The animals were sacrificed after 28 and 90 days. An independent pathologist evaluated abdominal adhesion, mesh shrinkage, local tissue tolerance and tissue ingrowth through histological analysis (H&E and Movat Pentacrome) at sacrifice. Fixation strength of the explanted abdominal walls was also assessed via burst-ball. Results No adverse events were observed at implantation or during the survival period. All the meshes were in place at sacrifice. Mesh shrinkage and abdominal adhesion scores were similar between the two groups. Histological analysis of the mesh demonstrated equivalent quality of tissue ingrowth and excellent local tissue tolerance with minimal/mild foreign body response and mononuclear cells inflammation. The repair strength, evaluated through a burst ball method 90 days after implantation, showed no significant difference between the TISSIUM adhesive and tacks. Usability is currently being evaluated in clinically relevant models. Conclusions In this preclinical study the TISSIUM adhesive demonstrated similar fixation strength and quality of repair when compared to commercial tacks. This technology has the potential to impact hernia procedures standardization and reduce pain often associated with current fixation technologies.

Objective Several factors might affect the health and the quality of life of women who had a severe maternal morbidity (SMM) or a maternal near-miss (MNM) episode. The objective of the present study was to explore the perspectives of the professionals on the repercussions of SMM or of MNM after interviewing women who survived such episodes. Method Selected cases that captured the attention of professionals were reported. The professionals built individually 10 narratives, which were analyzed with the technique of content analysis. Results According to the perspectives of the professionals, women surviving a severe maternal condition and their families experienced clinical and psychosocial consequences. Some cases portrayed the intense psychological distress in mourning for the loss of the fetus or of their reproductive capacity and changes in family dynamics generating emotional overload, depression, and gender violence. Conclusion The analysis of narratives may offer an idea on the complexity of the perception of care by professionals and on the need for an interdisciplinary follow-up of women surviving an SMM or an MNM episode.
