Abstract The objective of the present study was to give continuity to the validation process of the Academic Life Assessment Scale (ALAS) by verifying its internal structure and the relationship with other related variables. The study involved 580 undergraduate students from two universities in the state of Paraíba, one public and one private. A majority of the participants were male (55%) with an average age of 22 (SD = 4.94) who responded to the ALAS and the Academic Experience Questionnaire - Reduced (AEQ-r). To verify the internal structure of the ALAS, first, a confirmatory factor analysis was performed and, as the structure was not confirmed, an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed. After EFA, a three-factor model was found, which presented good reliability, as well as correlation with academic experiences measures. This study contributes to the literature suggesting a new factorial structure for ALAS.

Reasons for living are protective factors against suicidal behavior in adolescents. One of the most useful measures to assess them is the Reasons for Living Inventory for Adolescents (RFL-A) developed by Osman et al. The goal of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of its Portuguese version of the RFL-A. To this end, we recruited 512 high school adolescents (mean age = 16.7 years), who completed the RFL-A, a Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire, and a hopelessness scale. Exploratory factor analysis replicated the original five-factor model and confirmatory factor analysis obtained satisfactory adjustment values. The RFL-A shows good reliability (internal consistency and temporal stability) as well as good convergent, discriminant, and concurrent validities. These results indicate that the RFL-A is a valid and reliable measure to study protective factors against suicidal behaviors in Portuguese adolescents.

Abstract. The purpose of the present research was to develop and provide initial validation of the Fitness Coaching Behavior Scale (FCBS-Fit) designed for assessing perceived the quality of instructor’s behaviors in fitness group classes through the theoretical adaptation to the Coaching Model (Côté et al., 1995), originally derived from sports. In total, 618 participants of fitness group classes accepted to participate in this investigation. The purpose of the research was achieved in three phases: (1) development of the item pool and content validation of the preliminary version of the FCBS-Fit (27 items); preliminary examination of the factorial structure through exploratory factor analysis (n1 = 185) that revealed a scale with 20 items distributed by 4 factors: Technical and Positive Rapport, Exercise Planning and Prescription, Negative Rapport, and Goal Setting; (2) confirmatory factor analysis to the 4-factor model indicated adequate fit model fit, reliability and convergent and discriminant validity. In addition, a multi-group CFA indicated measurement invariance of the factorial structure across samples (n2 = 210); (3) structural equation model examined criterion validity through analysis of the relationships between the 4-factors of EPCI-Fit and enjoyment in exercise (n3 = 223). Psychometric evidence suggests that the FCBS could be used as a reliable and valid measure to assess Portuguese participant`s perceptions of the quality of instructor’s behaviors in fitness group classes.Resumen. El propósito del presente estudio fue desarrollar y validar preliminarmente la Escala de Percepción del Comportamiento del Instructor de Fitness (EPCI-Fit) cuyo objetivo es evaluar la calidad de los comportamientos de los instructores de fitness en clases de grupo, a través de la adaptación teórica al Coaching Model (Côté et al., 1995), original del entrenamiento deportivo. En total, participaran 618 practicantes de fitness en clases de grupo de diversas áreas del litoral de Portugal continental. El propósito del estudio fue alcanzado en tres fases: (1) desarrollo del banco de ítems y validación inicial del contenido de la versión inicial de EPCI-Fit (27 ítems); la evaluación preliminar de la estructura factorial a través de análisis factorial exploratorio (n1 = 185) que resultó en una escala con 20 ítems distribuidos por 4 factores - Feedback técnico positivo, Feedback negativo, Formulación de objetivos, y Planificación y prescripción del ejercicio; (2) estimación del ajuste del modelo de 4-factores a través de análisis factorial confirmatorio, y análisis a la fiabilidad compuesta, y validez convergente y discriminante (n2 = 210); evaluación de la invariancia métrica del modelo de 4-factores en dos muestras independientes (n1 = 185; n2 = 210); y (3) estimación de la validez de criterio a través del análisis a las relaciones entre los 4-factores de la EPCI-Fit y el disfrute en la práctica de ejercicio (n3 = 223). Abstract Background: The Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Brief Form (PID-5-BF) is a 25-item measuring tool evaluating maladaptive personality traits for the diagnosis of personality disorders(PDs). As a promising scale, its impressive psychometric properties have been verified in some countries, however, there have no studies about the utility of PID-5-BF in Chinese settings. The current study aimed to explore the maladaptive personality factor model which was culturally adapted in China and examine psychometric properties of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Brief Form among Chinese undergraduate students and clinical patients.Methods: 7155 undergraduate students and 451 clinical patients completed the Chinese version of PID-5-BF. 228 students were chosen randomly for test-retest reliability at a 4-week interval. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted to discover the most suitable construct in Chinese, measurement invariance(MI), internal consistency, and external validity were also calculated.Results: An exploratory six-factor model was supported more suitable in both samples(Undergraduate sample: CFI = 0.905, TLI = 0.888, RMSEA = 0.044, SRMR = 0.039; Clinical sample: CFI = 0.904, TLI = 0.886, RMSEA = 0.047, SRMR = 0.060), adding a new factor“Interpersonal Relationships”. Measurement invariance across non-clinical and clinical sample was established (configural, weak, strong MI, and partial strict MI). Aside from acceptable internal consistency (Undergraduate sample: alpha=0.84, MIC=0.21; Clinical sample: alpha=0.86, MIC=0.19) and test-retest reliability(0.73), the association with 220-item PID-5 was significant(r = 0.93, p < 0.01), and six PDs measured by Personality diagnostic questionnaire-4+ (PDQ-4+) were correlated with expected domains of PID-5-BF.Conclusions: The PID-5-BF is a convenient and useful screening tool for personality disorders with a novel six-factor model in Chinese settings, with the main difference for the Negative Affect domain.

Research that examines intimate partner violence (IPV) in the Arab world has been hampered by a lack of comprehensive valid and culturally appropriate measures. The purpose of this study was to test the reliability and validity of the Arabic version of the Composite Abuse Scale (CAS) in a sample of 299 Saudi women recruited from primary healthcare centers. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) did not support the original four-factor structure of CAS. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the item pool reliably distinguished four different types of abuse (physical abuse, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, and control). Two items were dropped from the scale leaving a 27-item scale. The final four-factor model with 27 items was supported through further CFA, including analyses supporting the fit of the four-factor model on a higher level, second-order concept (IPV). Total and subscales CAS scores demonstrate excellent to good reliability and evidence of concurrent validity based on correlations with established measures of depression (Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression [CESD]) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version [PCL-C]).

The factor structure of the 30-item Domain Specific Risk Taking Attitude (DOSPERT) scale (Blais & Weber, 2006) was examined with a convenience sample of 205 Chinese undergraduate students from Macao. A comparison of five competing models via confirmatory factor analysis yielded empirical support for the perspective that risk-taking attitude was content-dependent. After removing the items in the Financial subscale of the DOSPERT scale and some post hoc modifications, a reasonably good fit to the four-correlated-factor model was achieved, in concordance with the theoretical framework. However, items in some scales needed further revision to purify their factor structure so that the DOSPERT scale would be a more psychometrically sound measure for investigating one's risk-taking attitudes in different life domains.

The article presents the results of internal consistency and internal structure analysis on a sampleof 184 subjects of the four most widely used questionnaires of tolerance / intolerance to ambiguity: the Intolerance to Ambiguity Scale (IAS) by S. Badner, Multiple Stimulus Types Ambiguity Tolerance Scale (MSTAT-I and MSTAT-II) D. McLane and the Tolerance-intolerance of ambiguity new questionnaire (TAN) by T. V. Kornilova. The IAS subscales showed low internal consistency, the Tolerance-intolerance of ambiguity new questionnaire scale showed satisfactory internal consistency and the MSTAT-I and MSTAT-II scales showed high internal consistency. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the five-factor model of MSTAT-I, the other models were not confirmed on our data. Exploratory factor analysis revealed unsatisfactory internal structure of the IAS, TAN, MSTAT-II. The results of the study are discussed.

<p>The investigation of strengths and virtues is in the spotlight in the field of Positive Psychology because evidence suggests that strengths can help people to cope with adversities. This study aims to evaluate the internal structure of the Characters Strengths Scale (CSS), a test based on Values in Action model, through rigorous factor retention methods. Participants were 426 Brazilian undergraduate students with age between 18 and 57 years (<italic>M</italic> = 23.29, <italic>SD</italic> = 6.67). Factor analysis indicated one factor, which explained 32% of variance, as the most appropriate solution for the 24 strengths. Unidimensionality was suggested by different factor retention methods, what does not corroborate previous international findings and indicate the necessity of additional studies with this scale in different Brazilian populations.</p>


The present study verifies the three models on the dimensionality of the construct academic delay of gratification measured with the academic delay of gratification scale prepared by Bembenutty and Karabenick (1996). Sample of the study comprises of 488 professional courses undergraduate students of Muslim minority community (277 boys and 211 girls) from law, engineering, education and pharmacy faculties of Sultan Ul Uloom Education Society, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted on the responses of the 10 items provided by the sample using SPSS Statistics Ver.23 to extract the factors of the construct. Confirmatory factor analysis conducted using SPSS Amos Ver.23 provided the goodness of fit measures for each of the models. The unidimensional model produced excellent fit indices. Also, one factor model satisfied Gorsuch (1983) criterion to further verify the unidimensional nature of the construct, where the percentage of variance explained by factor 1 was nearly thrice when compared by the percentage of variance explained by the next subsequent factor 2. Monte Carlo principal component analysis method also revealed single factor for this variable. Implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract.FACTORIAL STRUCTURE ANALYSIS OF THE APRENDER A CONVIVIR PROGRAM OBSERVATION SCALE IN 3-YEAR OLD (ROAC-3)The present study analyzes the factorial structure and the internal consistency of the observation scale of the Aprender a Convivir program for 3-year-old (ROAC-3) used to assess student learning related with the contents worked on the Aprender a Convivir program. Aprender a Convivir program is aimed at 3 to 7-year-old students and develop social competence with a preventive purpose (Alba, Justicia-Arráez, Pichardo y Justicia, 2013). Results show the existence of seven factors within the ROAC-3, after the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis performed. Likewise, a social competence one-factor model was found for the scale, considering that the variables were positively and statistically significant around the social competence latent factor. In general, internal consistency coefficients of ROAC-3 were adequate.Key words: Aprender a Convivir program, social competence, observation scale, confimatory factor analysis.Resumen.En la siguiente investigación se analiza la estructura factorial y la consistencia interna del Registro de Observación del programa Aprender a Convivir en 3 años (ROAC-3), utilizado para evaluar el aprendizaje del alumnado en relación con los contenidos abordados en este programa de intervención. Aprender a Convivir es un programa dirigido al alumnado de 3 a 7 años que desarrolla la competencia social con un objetivo de prevención (Alba, Justicia-Arráez, Pichardo y Justicia, 2013). Los resultados encontrados tras los análisis exploratorios y confirmatorios, muestran la existencia de siete factores dentro de la escala. Por otro lado, se obtuvo un modelo unifactorial del registro total ya que los siete factores se relacionaron de forma positiva en torno a un factor latente, la competencia social. Los índices de consistencia interna del ROAC-3 fueron adecuados.Palabras clave: Aprender a Convivir, Educación Infantil, registro de observación, competencia social.

ABSTRACT The introduction of non-technical skills during nursing education is crucial to prepare nurses for the clinical context and increase patient safety. We found no instrument developed for this purpose. Objectives: to construct, develop and validate a non-technical skills assessment scale in nursing. Method: methodological research. Based on the literature review and experience of researchers on non-technical skills in healthcare and the knowledge of the principles of crisis resource management, a list of 63 items with a five-point Likert scale was constructed. The scale was applied to 177 nursing undergraduate students. Descriptive statistics, correlations, internal consistency analysis and exploratory factor analysis were performed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the scale. Results: scale items presented similar values for mean and median. The maximum and the minimum values presented a good distribution amongst all response options. Most items presented a significant and positive relationship. Cronbach alpha presented a good value (0.94), and most correlations were significant and positive. Exploratory factor analysis using the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test showed a value of 0.849, and the Bartlett’s test showed adequate sphericity values (χ2=6483.998; p=0.000). One-factor model explained 26% of the total variance. Conclusion: non-technical skills training and its measurement could be included in undergraduate or postgraduate courses in healthcare professions, or even be used to ascertain needs and improvements in healthcare contexts.
